Employers and Cost of Living

There was a thread about this a couple of months ago, but not many employers seemed to have done anything at that time - maybe more have now that it's getting colder and Christmas is coming?

Has your employer made any extra cost of living payments to you, aside from your usual expected payrise or bonus, if you have one?

No. Budgets are set until April 1st. The company isn't charging extra for services so of course my cut of that income is still the same.

LesOliviers · 22/11/2022 16:26

We get a 2% payrise in our December pay, a £50 high street voucher and £150 extra in our January. It doesn't really touch the sides tbh, but I suppose it's better than nothing.

Flowers FlowersFlowers for everyone, times are tough 🙁

Very surprised and delighted yesterday to hear that we'll be getting a one off payment of 6% of base salary in Dec payroll. I'm very grateful, although as I work for a certain very large oil and gas company who have recently reported record profits, it's the least they can do! Shame it'll probably all go on energy bills....

Nothing for dh or myself

HoobleDooble · 22/11/2022 16:35

I had a 7% payrise at the beginning of the year. Nothing has been said since, no mention of a Xmas bonus like we had last year. One of the bosses has just got a lovely expensive new car though, and I get to look at it through the office window as much as I want!

kegofcoffee · 22/11/2022 16:36

Nothing.

If anything I've had a pay cut with having to work from home using my own heating and electricity. I'd rather be back in the office.

WeWereInParis · 22/11/2022 16:43

7% pay rise and £1,500 for anyone earning under £50k.

Beezknees · 22/11/2022 16:51

No. I work for a small business and the recession will hit us so I'll be happy if I still have a job in 6 months.

Forfrigz · 22/11/2022 16:55

All of my earnings remain exactly the same without any extras although Mt rent has gone up by £150 and the landlord pocketed the cost of living payment. I now can't afford to eat properly and skip breakfast, have a packet of crisps and a piece of fruit for lunch and one proper meal per day. I'm on my feet all day working with vulnerable children.

Lividity · 22/11/2022 16:58

Another ironic lol from the teachers.

We have been told we can get some free counselling via Zoom, though.

FLOWER1982 · 22/11/2022 16:59

Local authority here - nothing has been agreed as yet. A few options have been talked about including redundancies to pay for the pay rise if it goes ahead. We are very low paid anyway.

TurtleTriplets · 22/11/2022 17:16

My employer gave £1000 to people earning the national living wage or less (I think that's about 18k a year but I could be wrong) m.

TrentCrimm · 22/11/2022 17:18

6% rise and £1500 bonus for everyone except Senior Management

janeseymour78 · 22/11/2022 17:21

Yes. I raised the cost of living and had a raise within 2 weeks. I don't think my colleagues who haven't raised it have been given anything.

Chattycathydoll · 22/11/2022 17:21

Permanent workers I believe got something, 0 hours contract/casual workers (even though we do the same job… just less protection) nothing.

Wildernesstips · 22/11/2022 17:38

No, but my employers are going to start providing free porridge pots for staff who need breakfast.

mumonthehill · 22/11/2022 17:42

Just had a 3% increase from January 2023 on top of our annual pay rises in April. Feel very grateful.

gogohmm · 22/11/2022 17:46

Many employers are struggling with bills themselves, if you get something obviously that's good for you but I certainly don't expect anything, not even a pay rise

Gazelda · 22/11/2022 17:47

Nothing. I work for a charity and our costs are crocheting at the same time as the need for our services are rapidly increasing. No money to spare for staff COL payments.
On the plus side, I feel valued and appreciated by senior management, which I haven't in previous roles.

veeringsouth · 22/11/2022 17:48

Crotcheting costs? Wonderful

Meklk · 22/11/2022 17:49

Where do you work? Honestly, no one from my family or friends received £1000, I'm really surprised! Even the pay rises - my husband (who is in the same company 9 years) got only 4%....

Whatifthecathatesthebaby · 22/11/2022 17:58

Very specialised and high fee consultancy but I'm admin staff, nothing in the 2 years I've been here and no bonuses

Squeakyegg22 · 22/11/2022 18:04

Nothing.

I don't buy this 'but employers have other increased costs etc etc'. So they will pay the increase for their energy, materials but not for wages, which also should be an increasing cost? Doubt they'd tell their energy supplier they won't pay them more!
