What do you really need to spend money on but your putting off?

Hair is an absolute birds nest with roots for days.
Nails are awful, I used to get them gelled every two weeks and now they are a chewed up mess.
Need new vests, knickers and socks but that seems indulgent as nothing seems to be cheap anymore.
DD needs a new hat
DS is going into 12-18 clothes so he needs all the basics.
What do you need to buy but your putting off?

Oh jesus everything

IntrovertedPenguin · 22/11/2022 10:20

A dehumidifier desperately. Also I need a hair cut as my fringe is blocking my eyesight.... I will hold off for another month or so! I'm terrible with money, I hate spending anything on myself.

notprincehamlet · 22/11/2022 10:21

Dentistry - the issue is affecting my speech which is affecting my ability to apply for better jobs but dentistry is so expensive

Pascha · 22/11/2022 10:24

Laundry baskets for clean clothes. Ours are fall apart with spiky prongs here and there. Also the cats have claimed them and they are now covered in cat hair so I guess we aren't using them anymore.

Plastic pots for food leftovers. It seems such a waste but we need them desperately.

New bras.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 22/11/2022 10:29

We are lucky that nothing needs replacing right now, but we have no extra money anymore so it's a ticking time bomb before things start to break and we won't be able to replace them.

emmathedilemma · 22/11/2022 10:35

Most of my flat needs painting. I even got as far as getting a quote but just can't be bothered with the hassle!
Also new bras, I bought one but I'm not convinced it's the right size (despite what the woman in M&S says) and not sure I can face trying a billion more on.

Stroopwaffle5000 · 22/11/2022 10:37

Carpet in the lounge. It's completely destroyed from when the kids and dog were little! Dental work - I've been wearing a "temporary" denture for about 6 years now and have another tooth that has half broken off and probably needs removing 😫 Getting the dog spayed. She's currently in heat and is pissed off with wearing a doggy diaper. Buying curtains for my daughter's room after the blinds broke. General wear and tear around the house. Luckily nothing that is really impacting us too much, more aesthetics, but they still niggle me 🤣

StollenAway · 22/11/2022 10:38

House stuff. I get quotes and then I'm appalled by the quote so do nothing.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 22/11/2022 10:40

Bathroom needs regrouting and sealing
I need to visit the opticians and dentist
Long sleeve tops for 5 year old whose had a growth spurt
a part for my car boot

Lennybenny · 22/11/2022 10:40

Car needs a service and I should get breakdown service sorted, I need new glasses...none of which I can afford to do.

Allmarbleslost · 22/11/2022 10:41

Windows. Whole house needs replacing but I can't bare the faff or the expense.

FourChimneys · 22/11/2022 10:42

A new roof. Fortunately there is a long waiting list for thatchers 😂

BrieAndChilli · 22/11/2022 10:45

god millions of things!!!

using the tumble drier to keep the laundry pile down as clothes on the airer take up to a week to dry and i need tobe doing at least one load of washing a day!!

Hair cut and roots. its been over a year since i last had anything done to my hair and it looks awful

having the garage rebuilt as its falling down

BamBamBilla · 22/11/2022 10:49

Couple of advisories on the car from the last Mot. The next Mot is not till march but at least if I get it done now I can do a service in the new year and hopefully it'll sail through then. Spread the cost a bit. Its just such a faff trying ringing round the garages.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 22/11/2022 13:55

New bathroom floor.. parts of the ( vinyl) tiles have come up and I keep tripping over on it.
A dehumidifier

edwinbear · 22/11/2022 14:57

We need a new bathroom and some work on the garden - neither will be happening for the foreseeable.

Re your nails, I bought my own UV lamp during lockdown and do my own gels, it's been a game changer. It cost about £30 for the lamp, then I had to invest in base/top coat and some colours, but it must have still saved me hundreds over the last couple of years. Plus I don't have to find the time to get to the salon.

wickerhearth · 22/11/2022 15:05

We need to paint hallway and living room, change the floor in the laundry room and sort out the garden, generally just cut the grass and tidy up, wash the windows from outside especially the upstairs ones.
Plant the plants that I get in the autumn, which still sitting in their pots a waiting.
Finally choose and buy the kitchen blind or curtains...
The list goes on.😶

abblie · 22/11/2022 15:07

Electric clothes dryer
Wallpaper
Paint

TwinklingStarlight · 22/11/2022 15:12

So much.
Vacuum cleaner because they all seem pants. I want an upright that agitates the carpet and had a retractable cord, and they don't seem to exist.
Dentistry because pain and fear.

Happyinheels · 22/11/2022 15:16

I'm actually really stressed by this! I've got some really big spends that I just can't afford.
My living room carpet is threadbare in places, I've got rugs to cover where I can but it's really horrendous. I'm embarrassed by it.
The push flush on the loo is bust. A friend who is a plumber said they don't make the parts anymore and I'm going to need a whole new cistern, but it's behind a slimline vanity unit so that will have to be ripped out.
And my disc pads and brake pads were advisories at my last mot. So I'm just barely driving my car till after Christmas!
The list is much longer but I'll stop there as it's giving me palpitations!

Firstshoes · 22/11/2022 15:17

A new roof

username8888 · 23/11/2022 17:14

My bloody cars brakes

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 23/11/2022 17:21

Another one who needs to replace carpets - my bedroom and hall and stairs. It's not the expense so much as the faff. We've a small house and there's nowhere for furniture to move to, plus I would rather repaint before getting new floors and I keep forgetting to get this organised.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 23/11/2022 17:22

A dehumidifier as drying washing in the house is a pain, but the tumble dryer takes ages.

Anything hair related, I look like a yeti most of the time.

A decent laptop for the kids to do homework. I cant afford an expensive one and the cheap ones just arent cutting the mustard. Tried a chrome book but the systems the school uses dont seem to work on them. I wish they would go back to paper homework.

JaneFondue · 23/11/2022 17:23

A laptop.
