Do you drink your tea in bed or up and at it

Parents of little ones not counted

When the alarm goes off do you make tea/coffee and take it back to bed OR are you throwing the curtains open and putting the dishwasher on?

Up at 6.30 and pot of tea at the table. I lay the table the night before and we have a slow start to the day. We light a candle now it is darker in the morning. I follow the Flylady cleaning system so my morning routine of zone work, washing and swish and swipe is done by 9. Then it’s time for a coffee!
Sundays is tea in bed with a couple of chocolate digestives.

MassiveSalad22 · 14/11/2022 08:12

I find tea in bed depressing because I either fall back asleep and wake up to it cold, or just sit there doom
scrolling. I’m an up and at em girl!

StaceySolomonSwash · 14/11/2022 08:14

Bed. I then do Wordle, Wordle waffle and Phrazle and skim MN and Reddit. Oh and look at the news headlines.

Priorities 😂

elastamum · 14/11/2022 08:17

Tea in bed here. We have a one cup kettle and a little flask of cold milk. The kitchen is miles away, as it's a big old cold house.

MrsJBaptiste · 14/11/2022 08:19

Never in bed, once I'm up then why bother traipsing back upstairs?

I get up at 6.30, make tea and sit with the news on until 7.15 when I start getting packed lunches ready. Then I get dressed, make up on and off to the (home) office for work at 8am.

I have no time to get back to bed!

cushioncovers · 14/11/2022 08:21

Work days I'm up and at it. Days off it's tea in bed.

TheOrigRights · 14/11/2022 08:25

Depends. One of the below:
Tea in bed then get up.
Tea in bed x 2
Get up, pack DS off to school then tea in bed.
Tea in bed, back to sleep, more tea in bed.

Option 4 is the best!

I'm up at 6.00, sometimes earlier now that it's (sort of) spring, but whatever the season, always on my feet, by 7.00. at the latest to make my morning cuppa and drink it. When my DH was alive I made his tea and brought it to him in bed.

Now I listen to the Archers, let the dog out for a wee, and then take him for his morning walk. Back home for his brekkie then mine.

A lot of this is habit from when I was working, so hard to break now I'm retired.

whiteroseredrose · 14/11/2022 08:33

During the week, up and at it.

Sunday mornings DH often brings me ooffee and toast in bed. Nowadays DC are at University but he did this even when they were toddlers.

EspeciallyD · 14/11/2022 08:35

It also depends on the weather, if its warm and dry enough to sit outside with my cuppa that is always my first choice, so that's most days from about April to September

RosesAndHellebores · 14/11/2022 08:44

We are up early Monday to Friday. (I am off today). DH brings me tea every morning at 6.30. 7.30 at weekends. His reward is a bacon sandwich just how he likes it on Saturdays and Sundays).

ShirleyHolmes · 14/11/2022 08:46

I get up and have mine downstairs whilst sorting out the kids.

However, my office is in my bedroom and my team are still WFH, from a laptop. So now it is colder, once the kids are in school, I get back into back (showered and changed into work clothes (joggers etc) I sometimes spend the day working from bed! My teams has a corporate background so colleagues can’t see I’m in bed and it’s warmer!

starfishmummy · 14/11/2022 08:55

Depends in the day. DH makes the tea. Days I have to be somewhere he leaves it downstairs so "uo and at it", days when I don't have to be somewhere he brings it to me in bed. Smile

jamespipe · 14/11/2022 09:05

Sometimes in bed. Mostly I site outside in my backyard.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 14/11/2022 09:16

Our bedroom is next to the kitchen so that makes going back to bed with a brew easier. If I lived in a house with the bedrooms upstairs, I'd stay downstairs with my cuppa.

Glittersparkle76 · 14/11/2022 09:28

I wake at 7,let the dog out for a wee while the kettle is boiling and make myself and DD9 a cup of tea then go back to bed to drink it and watch GMB for a bit, wake dd up for school no layer than 7.30 and then we get ready and have bfast together and out the door for 8:40am.

ancienthouse · 14/11/2022 10:03

Up and at it most days but on a Sunday DH gets up with the 3 year old and plays with them while I get a couple of hours sleep, then he brings me tea and toast which I have in bed and it's lovely. We alternate weekend mornings.

BlackInk · 14/11/2022 10:12

Always tea in bed here.

I get up when the alarm goes off and whilst the kettle's boiling/tea's brewing I do some tidying up downstairs. Then back to bed to drink my HUGE cup of tea and ease myself into the day, usually chatting to DC/DP, deciding what to have for dinner, reminding people of anything needed for the day. I set my alarm earlier than I need to so that I can do this – it's essential!

marmaladepop · 14/11/2022 07:46

Do you take fresh milk up every night? I had to do that when I had one!

So so take some up in a travel mug with an ice cube but also have some longlife milk sachets in the draw for when we forget (frequently)

TheKitchenWitch · 14/11/2022 10:22

Unless very ill, I can't imagine wanting to have any food or drink in bed. It's really unappealing.

TinyBearCub · 14/11/2022 10:30

We wake whenever 4yo DD does (although she is beginning to wake up later...) and DH goes down stairs, puts on the dishwasher and brings up a tea pot for him, coffee for me and warm milk in a sippy cup for DD which we all have in bed with CBeebies on if DD asks, until it's time to get dressed for school/work. If someone is going to the office, they might get up straight away, depending when DD woke.

DH feels bad sometimes, but DD is perfectly happy with the arrangement and I like my snuggles so we will carry on until it stops working! (possibly when baby DD arrives at the end of December...).

people who don’t eat or drink in bed - why?

i put my electric blanket on so it’s cosy when I get back in from the trip down yonder

biggest mug I have, bed, phone, check calendar for any meetings I’m not aware of, check emails, skim daily mail (guilty pleasure), skim FB, daily bank account check, skim Instagram, skim mumsnet, 1 game of soda sort and then up

Crumbs, spills, forgotten crockery, smell, it being just overall slovenly

gogohmm · 14/11/2022 12:32

On weekends one of us goes down and fetches tea unless we have a reason to get up straight away. Love a lazy morning in bed

Chikapu · 14/11/2022 12:50

I'm really not a fan of going back to bed once I've got up, I'd much rather sit on the sofa with a cup of tea and some knitting.

TheRookie · 14/11/2022 12:58

I have little ones and they're still up in the night so I get my coffee in bed at 7, while my husband gets kids breakfasted and dressed. It's an absolute luxury and I will be pretty gutted when I don't get it 🤣
