Do you drink your tea in bed or up and at it

Parents of little ones not counted

When the alarm goes off do you make tea/coffee and take it back to bed OR are you throwing the curtains open and putting the dishwasher on?

I don't eat or drink in bed unless really, really unwell.

thefinaltwist · 14/11/2022 07:52

I set my alarm 30 minutes before I have to get up. In that 30 minutes I come to gradually, read emails, skim mn and do my stretches. Then I get ds up sort his breakfast, shower then have mine. I prefer my morning coffee in the kitchen watching the birds at the feeder and hopefully a glimpse of the robin on the wall next to the kitchen window. Dh is away far earlier than me and I wouldn't appreciate being woken up that early neither would ds

Up, then back to bed with a cuppa whilst surfing the net, love a slow start even on weekdays. Must get up for work now unfortunately.

sashh · 14/11/2022 07:54

I've spent most of my adult life living in flats, bungalow or had a downstairs bedroom so the idea of 'going downstairs' is a bit odd.

So I wake up, head for my spare room where I have a tassimo and my desk and I make coffee and log on to my PC.

I'm here most of the day at the moment so have a couple of coffees.

A cup of tea or an OH? WinkGrin

I hadn't about that, but I do often tell him it's a big reason I let him stick around.... Grin

MisgenderedSwan · 14/11/2022 07:55

I put the kettle on, tidy round, empty the dishwasher, make the packed lunch, brew the tea in the teapot, sort the dogs, sort the dc breakfast then take a lovely cup of tea back to bed to drink in peace.

If dh is still snoring, I'll snuggle into a blanket on the sofa with a brew.

people who don’t eat or drink in bed - why?

i put my electric blanket on so it’s cosy when I get back in from the trip down yonder

biggest mug I have, bed, phone, check calendar for any meetings I’m not aware of, check emails, skim daily mail (guilty pleasure), skim FB, daily bank account check, skim Instagram, skim mumsnet, 1 game of soda sort and then up

I don't eat or drink in bed because I can't bear the thought of crumbs/dropping anything in there and also because it's the sort of thing I would only do if very ill or in hospital so it reminds me of being an invalid. And once I'm up and downstairs to make a cup of tea I don't want to get back into bed..... I'd struggle to get out again and get on with my day!

That's just me though and if you enjoy it, go for it!

BertieBotts · 14/11/2022 07:57

I get up and relax but I have small kids so need to supervise them and they would spill drinks in bed.

Never ever eat in bed. I find it already gets crumby about 2 days after changing the sheets and that's without eating there! I don't want to add to it!

Ballsaque · 14/11/2022 07:59

Coffee machine in the bedroom on
a timer…. So I sip my coffee whilst getting ready for work

countrygirl99 · 14/11/2022 08:00

My first cup of ghe day is in.a travel mug while I muck out my horses stable.

RhubarbFairy · 14/11/2022 08:01

I have mine with my breakfast at the table whilst doing Wordle. Even at the weekend. DH naturally sleeps later than me, so I never take mine back to bed as I let him sleep.

EspeciallyD · 14/11/2022 08:02

Depends how early I have woken up, if I have woken to the alarm its up and at it, if I have woken say an hour early I might take a cuppa back to bed and read there till alarm time. Never eat in bed though.

TheSausageKingofChicago · 14/11/2022 08:03

Neither. Out of bed and laze on the sofa with my brew.

EspeciallyD · 14/11/2022 08:04

Dh usually stays fast asleep while I drink my tea and read (on my phone not books) its a nice peaceful time.

Tomorrowisalatterday · 14/11/2022 08:05

I have a toddler who likes a breastfeed first thing so my DH brings me a coffee in bed in a non spill cup to have while I am doing that.

But pre kids, I preferred to get max sleep and would get up as late as possible and have coffee in the office rather than faff at home.

Huge pot of tea and one rich tea biscuit in bed every morning.

EXDH would never let me eat in bed. Hence the biscuit.

It’s like I give him the one finger every day 🤣

I hope it’s a rich tea finger?

BorisJohnsonsHair · 14/11/2022 08:07

Surprised no one's been on to say it's disgustingly unhygienic and you shouldn't do it Grin

I set my alarm so I have time to make tea then drink it in bed.

Reallycomplicatedpants · 14/11/2022 08:07

Funnily enough, I was just reaching for my mug of tea (in bed) when I opened the thread.

gamerchick · 14/11/2022 08:07

I don't eat or drink in bed. Mind don't drink tea or coffee either. Awful stuff.

I take a thermos of Rooibos to bed every night, have insomnia so often have a cup in night but will enjoy one before getting up too.

Omg this is such a good idea. I'm going to start doing this.

Pumpupthejampumpitup · 14/11/2022 08:08

@maddiemookins16mum … no, it’s not…but it should be 🤣

EnjoythemoneyJane · 14/11/2022 08:09

Just finished my second cup in bed and about to get up!

Tbf I was up at 6 doing breakfasts, sorting out the dog, putting on washing etc, but it’s an enormous luxury to take a cuppa back to bed for an hour and look at the news, chat shit on MN, etc.

Very much a development since lockdown, as DH now WFH full time and likes to do the school run, so I get an hour to myself on the days when I don’t have to be up and out. I never take it for granted though - just this morning I was sitting with my tea looking out at the fog, thinking, ‘ooh, this is so lovely and cosy’ when your thread popped up!

thelobsterquadrille · 14/11/2022 08:10

In bed at weekends or on days off, but on work days I get up or I'd never get out the door on time!

Readaboutyourself · 14/11/2022 08:10

In bed. Lovely DP brings me a cuppa every morning after letting the early rising cat out. I love that half an hour of warming up time for the day ahead.

When I was single, and mid winter, I would take a thermos up with me the night before.

Girlintheframe · 14/11/2022 08:11

Bed every morning. Tis bliss
