Do you drink your tea in bed or up and at it

Parents of little ones not counted

When the alarm goes off do you make tea/coffee and take it back to bed OR are you throwing the curtains open and putting the dishwasher on?

I’m fascinated by other people’s routines.

I’m up around 6, have a glass of water first to rehydrate - so hard as I just want tea, but I drink so much more water throughout the day if I start with it. Bit of stretching or a short workout, then my reward is a blissfully relaxed cup of tea in my favourite chair with the cat on my lap, reading something inspiring before scanning over the day’s plan, the news and clearly MN!

CoffeandTiaMaria · 14/11/2022 07:30

I have a Tassimo in the bedroom so macchiato latte and digestive biscuit, in bed while I do Wordle, read the BBC news and MN. No need to get up until I want to!

StopFeckingFaffing · 14/11/2022 07:32

Unless I'm ill or very badly hungover then I'm an 'up and at it' sort of person

I'm also not someone who naps during the day

Mumski45 · 14/11/2022 07:33

DH does the weekday morning shift with 2 teen boys to get them out of the house by 7:30. I am not welcome downstairs as DH panders to their every whim and lays out a hotel style breakfast for them as routine whereas I expect them to do more for themselves which is apparently too much and I am disruptive. Luckily part of his routine is to bring me tea in bed although it does sometimes arrive late and/or cold. I try not to complain 🤣. For those of who who think I'm spoilt my shift is at the other end of the day as I take on most sports related trips and am always up first at the weekend.

FettleOfKish · 14/11/2022 07:34

Bed, and even better early-riser DH brings the coffee to me Smile

Deedippy · 14/11/2022 07:35

We got a teasmade during the first lockdown and without a doubt it's one of the best things we have ever bought. 6.45 mon-fri it brews us a fab little pot of tea so always tea in bed, without even getting up, and usually before the kids get up. Used it nearly everyday for the last 2 1/2 years and love it

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 14/11/2022 07:35

Once I'm awake I like to be up and at 'em. Hate lounging in bed, so it's tea downstairs; sometimes sitting in my favourite chair looking out at the garden, but mostly whilst doing a few chores.

thaegumathteth · 14/11/2022 07:38

I could never go back to bed. I'd fall asleep again.

LubaLuca · 14/11/2022 07:38

I get back in bed with it. It's something I've started recently.

Weepingwillows12 · 14/11/2022 07:40

I don't really drink tea but I think it would definitely be on the go for me. My DH gets up later than me so I would be sat in the dark which is pointless. I like to sit near the window downstairs instead. On a work day, no time for a drink.

tigger1001 · 14/11/2022 07:41

I've never mastered the art of having coffee in bed - I would spill it.

I get up then go downstairs.

RagzRebooted · 14/11/2022 07:41

I get up and shower, make coffee, take it back to bed and scroll mumsnet for half an hour before drying my hair and getting dressed then off to work.
I make sure teens are up, but apart from making DD a sandwich I don't get involved in their morning routine and they don't get involved in mine!

SeasonaIVag · 14/11/2022 06:41

I leap out of bed - full of the joys

Upside to having teenagers: I am well rested and get some alone time after years of dragging myself out

That is good to hear! Elsewhere on Mumsnet lots of people claim teens are more demanding and tiring than toddlers!

AltheaVestr1t · 14/11/2022 07:43

DC are older now so it's tea in bed every day. It's much more civilised!

SudocremOnEverything · 14/11/2022 07:43

I’ve got a toddler so right now I put on cars to let me drink a cup of coffee.

Previously, I’d just not drink anything hot until I’d decided to actually get up. If I’ve had to get up, go down to the kitchen, boil the kettle and such like, then I consider myself to have gotten up.

I’d quite happily drink a cup of coffee in bed if someone made it and delivered it to me. But that’s not happening in the foreseeable future.

Roselilly36 · 14/11/2022 07:44

DH brings me tea and toast in bed every morning, then offers me another cup before I get up. Love it.

AtomicBlondeRose · 14/11/2022 07:45

I get up and boil the kettle, and while that’s happening I make my lunch for work. DD gets up and I loosely supervise her breakfast (she doesn’t need much watching but likes me to be there so she doesn’t eat on her own.) By this time my tea’s brewed and ready and I take it back to bed. DD follows and we do the Wordle together! It’s only 10 minutes but a nice start to the day.

Do you take fresh milk up every night? I had to do that when I had one!

dudsville · 14/11/2022 07:47

OH gets up and takes the dogs out, i open the curtains and take a cup of tea back to bed. I've got 13 more precious minutes!

motherofawhirlwind · 14/11/2022 07:47

OH brings me a tea in bed, morning and night. If he didn't, I just wouldn't bother to have one.

Shoreditchintheafternoon · 14/11/2022 07:48

Always back in bed! I'm not a morning person

A cup of tea or an OH? WinkGrin

Shitfather · 14/11/2022 07:49

Love this question! Straight to bed with my tea to check on MN. It’s such a comforting way to start the day. I can’t imagine not doing this.

FurryFace22 · 14/11/2022 07:49

Dh brings me tea before he leaves, I drink it in bed then shower & get ready for work. Although oddly on days off I get straight up and drink my tea downstairs. I obviously need a gentler start on work days!

Whiskers4 · 14/11/2022 07:50

Never had tea in bed.

By the time I'd made a drink, fed the cats, I just feel I want to get on with my day and tend to carry my drink around with me while getting ready.
