upinastar · 12/11/2022 11:25

As soon as I seen the title I thought it was this 😁I wonder if the seller knows this appears on mumsnet every year.

MattHancockmole · 12/11/2022 11:26

It is OVER A FOOT TALL after all.

averylongtimeago · 12/11/2022 11:38

Right, own up! Which Mumsnetter puts this up on EBay? 😂

takeitandleaveit · 12/11/2022 11:44

That astonishing creation is starting to be a Christmas tradition now. I'll miss it when it's gone.

Do you think we could maybe all have a whip round to buy it, and send it to MNHQ for a lark?

WhyOY · 12/11/2022 11:47

How is it not sold yet?!

What year was it made does it say sorry I can't read all the SHOUTING.

MassiveSalad22 · 12/11/2022 11:48

I love that they’ve purposely priced it so high that it will never sell, so we can all enjoy it year on year!! <waves to seller> thanks for your work!

It's good advertising for their expansive ebay shop!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 12/11/2022 11:53

I've never seen this before - how have I missed it?! So has he been trying to sell it for years, then, with no success? Does he keep it up on eBay permanently or just re-list it every November, in the desperate hope that this might be the year? Why all the capitals and constant random throwing in of the word 'Britain'? And the grammar is so bizarre, regardless of what his first language is.

I like the bit about it being remembered for years in the future; yes, but possibly not quite in the way you envisage....

It's obviously been a real labour of love and he has indeed used a lot of skill and imagination, but.... you're just left wondering.... why????? It's always difficult, when you've slowly sunk a huge amount of money into something that's meant so much to you, to come to the realisation that it's not really worth much at all to a stranger.

Apart from anything else, the 'talking point' that it represents surely comes from him unveiling his special creation and then proceeding to bore the pants off enthuse and delight his guests with all the intricate details of his creative journey whether they want to hear it or not. It doesn't really have the same 'making-memories' cachet when all you have to say in answer to all their polite questions is "I dunno, I just bought it off some bloke on eBay instead of getting the kids any presents this year".

Britains is an old toy brand specialising in scale models. I used to have the zoo.

Who do you think it is starting the threads off every year?!

Of course, MNHQ are not at liberty to confirm or deny it, but if you keep a look out for a thread from somebody asking "We have a baby boy on the way - I really want to name him David, after me, but my DW says it's an old-fashioned name; even though, as I keep telling her, Portsmouth, where we live, is a solidly traditional city", you might want to put two and two together.

Fair enough. I never click to see what other items people are selling so that doesn’t work on me 😄

Aaaaaahhhh, thank you, that explains it! I couldn't tell if it was just his own way of stressing that he hadn't used 'any of that foreign rubbish'!

Yeah nor me usually but I did this time.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 12/11/2022 12:03

Oh, I see now. Is this his equivalent of Arkwright's deliberately misspelled signs on his shop window, designed to lure people in and then make a mint off them?
