Where to buy a new husband?

So Currys have this thing where you can buy a new appliance and they recycle the old one for you for free. Is there a store that does that with husbands? Preferably with free delivery.

Had my mine for decades, the battery runs down quicker than it used to, but if you plug it in to sky sports for a few hours, that seems to reboot it.

OrangePomander · 11/11/2022 09:22

Do they do repairs instead? My current model is running well in some areas but in others they are barely working.

JestersTear · 11/11/2022 09:24

My model was second-hand, a little worn but fully refurbished and with sever apps already installed; washing-up app, cooking app, and even housework app, all in full working order. Sadly gardening app seems to have been deleted along the way but otherwise sound. I can't seem to delete the 'I hope you don't mind but I've...' option. I have tried but that seems to be part of the core programming and has been known to cause issues in the past. Any ideas?

Buyer beware; I have one with chef and DIY skills but those are 2 skills have enormous potential for leaving your kitchen/house as if a bomb has exploded! 😀

Yes, I agree. My neighbor has the chef/DIY dual function model. Unfortunately, its processing chip is really slow, so even though it gets the jobs done, the house is in a constant state and it drives her mad.

I went for the model with parenting and kitchen clean-up functions, which on the whole has been brilliant, but it does require quite a lot of time plugged into the Xbox in the evenings. Also, the kitchen clean-up programming has been a bit disappointing; it‘s reliable with the basics, but it isn’t programmed to wipe down the surfaces, which gets infuriating.

gogohmm · 11/11/2022 09:34

There's a model going spare that left me. To be fair to him he's pretty handy around the house, great with older kids, well paid, bit of a tidy clean freak but he got bored and thought the grass was greener, admits it wasn't now but I've got an improved upgrade who doesn't mind my messy ways

OK I'll bite then don hard hat.
amusing as this threat is (and I have chuckled along ) but this is MN double standards at is v finest.
If a bloke had started a thread asking for somewhere to trade In his current wife / partner for a better younger model there would be an uproar .
People are suggesting getting a new model that shouldn't be allowed
to think for itself and should be programmed to serve their needs and preferences etc etc and even said in jest it is surely disrespectful . If we want respect between the sexes it needs to go both ways in my opinion.

OK, I'll bite.

I bet you're fun at parties !!!

Phlewf · 11/11/2022 09:43

This is why I rent and don’t buy outright. I compromised the initial purchase agreement with vol au vents for a lifetime repair option. I retained the option to buy but financially renting makes sense right now.

JolieJ · 11/11/2022 09:46

Mine is quite useful so I decided to splurge on two miniature versions as well but they need a lot more input. Oh well you live and you learn!

After a lot of thought I've decided I'll have to return my Henry. It's such a sexist trope that he needs a really long hose to be effective.

I've been heartened on this thread by the loyalty to existing models. There have been a lot of warnings about the risks of trading in. Also, when it comes to programming them, I've read it mainly as the operator needing to learn how to get the best results as the item stands, rather than the appliance needing to be amended.
In fact the automatic patches and autonomy are praised by at least one poster. Truly a sought after model, that one.

BIWI · 11/11/2022 09:48

I managed to install the 'emptying the bins' and 'doing the recycling' apps, along with 'doing the laundry' quite some time ago. But I've never been able to get the 'I earn a 6-figure salary' app to work. Can anyone advise?

Deadringer · 11/11/2022 09:49

Make sure you get some sort of guarantee, mine was faulty after about 3 months.

Oh thank you, thank you. This thread has made my day.

itmustbemyage · 11/11/2022 10:01

I’ve had mine for a number of years and on the whole I’ve been very happy with it. Functionality is slowing down considerably and it needs the input of a strong cup of coffee to fire up in the mornings but I was not looking to replace. Unfortunately a recent fault has developed, somehow a virus has been introduced ManFlu I believe it is called? Any techie wise women of MN that can advise?

Migoodness · 11/11/2022 10:01

Once the bearings go, causing the model to constantly make lots of noise when under stress in the spin cycle, it might be advantageous to trade in. An engineer will assess before advising should you feel that necessary.
If repairs prove to be fruitless, use the decision period to do small amounts of hand washing and to experiment with various detergents, eco balls, conditioners, etc.
Quick rinse or timer delay - depending upon your situation at the time - are attractive features in a new model. Who needs an extensive manual? Operation should be intuitive.

I've got an older model but he is still working well so I think I will keep him. I'm not sure the newer models are all they are made out to be. Don't be swayed by the slick advertising.

My DH had a lot of health problems, and used to jokingly say I should trade him in. I told him I'd only get scrap value!

Toomanysleepycats · 11/11/2022 10:24

@flapjackfairy Hello in the interest of fairness, I’ll review my self.

This model is practically vintage, all the shine and colour has faded considerably. Her ‘fun’ chip had failed and this model refuses the alcohol that is needed for the reset. The hands are still good and the cleaning, washing and hoovering apps are working as well as ever. There’s a bit of stiffness around it’s knee joints and it takes a while to get going in the mornings. If you have patience it will also do the admin. It goes on a bit about climate change, but the volume has been set pretty low so it’s easy to ignore.

The husband model has gone rogue and is currrently self upgrading some new teeth. It’s current owner is hoping that it gets stolen. It looks as if it’s in fine working order, but the selfish app got added twice by mistake in manufacture.

BIWI · 11/11/2022 10:32

The MrsBIWI, model 1959, is beginning to show signs of wear and tear. The sleep function is failing, leading to some unacceptable animation during the night, along with the 'going for a wee' function increasing in frequency. More engineer appointments are required for 'swishy natural-coloured hair', and there's something suspicious going on with knee joints. However, the 'cooking' and 'sitting on the sofa drinking gin' apps are still working well.

kingtamponthefurred · 11/11/2022 10:33

I tried one, but sent it back when I realised you can't turn the voice circuit off.

I mean, generally that's a built in functionality that automatically upgrades over time. If you didn't check for that option during purchase it may not be possible. You could always try installing 'lottery ticket' and hoping ?

And I am very grateful to have upgraded as my original model was stuck on victim mode with the same complaints running on a loop.

Nubbled · 11/11/2022 11:53

But will it be like my toothbrush and demand access to my phone, to let me know where I’m going wrong? 🙄😂

StarlightLady · 11/11/2022 11:54

Can you get one which also vibrates 😂? That functionality was lacking in the ones I have tried. Design fault!

kingtamponthefurred · 11/11/2022 11:59

When I first got mine the joystick was almost too easy to trigger and required a lot of servicing, but now it is more predictable and occasionally does not function at all.
