Where to buy a new husband?

So Currys have this thing where you can buy a new appliance and they recycle the old one for you for free. Is there a store that does that with husbands? Preferably with free delivery.

They’d have to do a lot of market research to get the model upgrades right.
I’d be worried that they’d send a replacement model that they were overstocked on, like “Doesn’t eat vegetables”.
The top of the range models would be out the door in a flash.

I'd happily trade in a doesn't clean up after himself Disney Dad for the doesn't eat vegetables model.

A lot of the current models seem to be designed with inbuilt obsolescence.
The one I've had for over 30 years is still running reasonably well (but it does make groaning noises now when I turn it on...)

Just be careful if you sell it on with giving the new owner your phone number. It’s really annoying when they constantly contact you to arrange a return or to troubleshoot a problem. I keep telling them it was sold as seen!!! They did a test drive, they knew what they were getting!

I seem to have had the same problem as you in the past Grin

😄

Riapia · 11/11/2022 08:02

However expensive they are they are all likely to prove faulty.
This is the reason its impossible to get one with any sort of warranty from the manufacturers.

MrsMoastyToasty · 11/11/2022 08:06

Would you get British made or a foreign model?

I've had mine for 30 years and he's wearing a bit thin on the top of the head. He's also been extended in the belly area.

22fgjiyt · 11/11/2022 08:08

With the newer models though, do they all sing a little tune when they've completed a task, expecting you to congratulate them?

LunaTheCat · 11/11/2022 08:11

This is hilarious!

There might be a Black Friday deal on with extra skills packages - look out for the chef and DIY models.

Buyer beware; I have one with chef and DIY skills but those are 2 skills have enormous potential for leaving your kitchen/house as if a bomb has exploded! 😀

picklemewalnuts · 11/11/2022 08:16

I don't think I could be bothered with learning how to get the best out of a new one. My old one has his flaws, but I least I've leaned some workarounds.

HelloBunny · 11/11/2022 05:53

I don’t even want a new one.
Just to offload the old one!

This.

BoxOfCats · 11/11/2022 08:18

I wish I'd gotten the self cleaning model.

Iamthewombat · 11/11/2022 08:22

You know how when Curry’s sell tellies, they have a massive wall of them, all showing the same programme?

They should do the same with the new or part-exchanged husbands. Line them up, get them all saying the same things (e.g. “I told them that this would happen, if only they had listened to me”) simultaneously. A real boon to the shopper.

hostawater · 11/11/2022 08:23

I found my current man on He-Bay - previous owner got the wrong model but ran out of time to return him. What a bargain! Even came with some bonus attachments, and the optional dog pack.

theMedicinalPorpoise · 11/11/2022 08:24

I sometimes think about trading mine in, but can't be bothered with the faff of getting a new one and then spending ages configuring it to my preferences and downloading the apps like FixMend, TeaBring, BinsOut etc. And the kids quite like the MonsterNoises and BedtimeStory apps too. So on reflection I think I'll stick with my current model

TwoBlondes · 11/11/2022 08:25

I think there'd be a problem with built in obsolescence....after every two years you'd need to upgrade, a bit like Leonardo DiCaprio

longwayoff · 11/11/2022 08:30

Just want to warn you off getting a cheap reconditioned or nearly new second hand one. They very rarely justify the effort you have to put in. Especially when they arrive with lots of unmentioned attachments. Dont get one off the net.

FettleOfKish · 11/11/2022 08:37

Mines alright generally but does anyone know where I might buy a common sense expansion pack?

He malfunctioned the other day, inexplicably replacing our past-its-best chrome shower head & hose with a matt black one; despite all the other fittings in the room being chrome.

I've run an update in case it was a glitch in his firmware & enabled Two Factor Authentication on all independent decisions so I'll get a warning text, but he could probably do with an extra couple of GB of sense just to be sure.

MegGriffinshat · 11/11/2022 08:46

Mine is broken.

Mainly stays in the shed though, so it’s not too much of an issue.

Mabelface · 11/11/2022 08:51

I returned mine 7 years ago as it was faulty. Tried a new model for a few years but that one was faulty too. Decided that I don't really need one at all!

Rebootnecessary · 11/11/2022 08:56

Two factor authentication on independent decisions is vital. And if they have the 'I've been thinking' app, it should be deleted forthwith.

StarlightLady · 11/11/2022 08:58

Check all measurements carefully before getting a new one, some are a lot smaller than claimed and run out of power too quickly when operating in vertical mode.

Avoid one which runs on beer.

spiderontheceiling · 11/11/2022 09:02

@22fgjiyt would singing a little tune mean that you could just comment there and then and replace the need to go around and admire whatever routine task they had done?

flapjackfairy · 11/11/2022 09:09

OK I'll bite then don hard hat.
amusing as this threat is (and I have chuckled along ) but this is MN double standards at is v finest.
If a bloke had started a thread asking for somewhere to trade In his current wife / partner for a better younger model there would be an uproar .
People are suggesting getting a new model that shouldn't be allowed
to think for itself and should be programmed to serve their needs and preferences etc etc and even said in jest it is surely disrespectful . If we want respect between the sexes it needs to go both ways in my opinion.

Have you been on forums predominantly frequented by men?

Same things are joked about on those.
