Do you wash your clothes straight away if you have worn them to the dentist/doctor/restaurant?

It never occurred to me before the pandemic to do that but I am more aware of germs these days and I have also read on here about people not allowing ‘outdoor clothes’ on the bed which again would not have been on my radar. I would normally wear clothes again if they looked clean.

What do you do if the clothes are clean? Rewear them or wash them straight away?

It’s just more of an awareness now as I know that a lot of people do change and put everything in the wash.

No. A lot if people don't do this. A tiny minority do.

BobbyBobbyBobby · 10/11/2022 08:11

No. If someone is that paranoid about alleged germs clinging to their clothing they might as well ditch the wardrobe and buy a hazmat suit.

Sparklingbrook · 10/11/2022 08:11

Is it 2020 again? <checks diary>

I change when I get home, if I think the clothes I’m wearing need a wash they go in the basket.
I don’t sit on the bed in my outdoor clothes but that was all covered on that other thread.

I had to go private for the dentist-that place is a palace, I would not be worrying about my clothes being dirty from there. 😂

only in the olden days when smoking in waiting rooms or restaurants was still a thing and a night out resulted in clothes reeking of stale smoke.

SpringIntoChaos · 10/11/2022 08:16

@Madeyoulook Who are these 'lots of people'? I know of not one person who does this bonkers thing! 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

chelle0 · 10/11/2022 08:22

@toomuchlaundry because I just don't feel clean. People are disgusting, I've worked with enough of them to know.

User438651209 · 10/11/2022 08:23

Probably the same people that disinfect their grocery

CaptainMyCaptain · 10/11/2022 08:23

After going to a pub or something before the smoking ban this was necessary. It was because of the smell, though, not germs.

No. Sometimes think that the Eco protesters should quit the M25 and seek some Mumsnet washing machines to glue themselves to.

Berlinlover · 10/11/2022 08:27

No

MegGriffinshat · 10/11/2022 08:30

No.

I was pregnant during the first lockdown, difficult pregnancy with lots of scans. I had a midwife get very irate at me that I wasn’t stripping off as soon as I got home, putting my clothes straight in the wash and showering immediately. I was definitely going to catch covid off my clothes according to her.

Madness.

CornishGem1975 · 10/11/2022 08:31

I was about to say 'of course I don't' but then I thought about...I don't if at dentist/doctor etc but if I've been out at night for a meal in a restaurant etc then actually I do put those clothes straight in the wash. No idea why.

MeOlBamBoo · 10/11/2022 08:33

DobbyTheHouseElk · 10/11/2022 07:55

I do, but I’m not normal.

I don’t wash them immediately, but they certainly do get washed. I try to wear clothes that are needing to be washed, rather than totally clean on that day. So jeans that have previously been worn.

I know I’m bonkers, I wish I could be more normal.

Same here.

I do have diagnosed OCD though?

Hbh17 · 10/11/2022 08:33

No - that would be a waste of time, energy & resources. I would take off work clothes when I get in so that they could be hung up ready for the next day (& "home clothes" possibly a bit more relaxed and comfortable). It really doesn't pay to listen to the minority of people who are completely paranoid about this stuff.

Sapphiresanddiamonds · 10/11/2022 08:35

I just think the bed should be a protected clean zone.

Can I ask why? A bed is full of skin flakes, sweat, dust and probably dust mites, it's not a 'clean zone'.

To answer your question OP, no I wouldnt wash them unless they were dirty. A dentist's chair is probably the cleanest chair you'll sit in all week.

There were a lot of unknowns at that time. My husband works in a hospital and was given information which, later, turned out to be unnecessary. The midwife was just giving you the current advice.

JennyForeigner · 10/11/2022 08:38

No, but I was them straight away if, as yesterday, I spend the day scrubbing eaves cupboards following a mouse infestation.

Ugh.

Flyingbye · 10/11/2022 08:38

No. It seems such a random list to me. Why after a restaurant and not a shop?

I do wash my hands by default when I come home now, not because I'm paranoid about COVID but because they just feel like they need it.

The doctor's might make a difference on whether I put a jumper in the wash at the end of the day, or rewear.

Notanotherusername4321 · 10/11/2022 08:39

But do you wear shoes in the house?

according to another thread mn’ers think not doing so is unhygienic…all those foot and sock diseases and grubbiness…

😀😂

Seeline · 10/11/2022 08:40

How do people think they are going to catch an illness from their clothes?

Do they go round sucking or chewing them?

I really don't understand the fuss. And do people really not sit in their beds in their clothes? All those little germs marching off their jumpers and lying in wait for them to go to bed.....

When I was a kid we only had one or two sets of clothes. We wire them for days. I wore the same school blouse all week. Washing was done once a week. We had a weekly bath. We weren't all constantly ill.

vodkaredbullgirl · 10/11/2022 08:42

Only my work clothes, as I work in care.

MayISuggestSomeThickCutSteakChipsToGoWithThat · 10/11/2022 08:42

No i take them outside and burn them instead

toomuchlaundry · 10/11/2022 08:42

Do people lick their clothes?

What is the issue with a restaurant? Surely if you are that paranoid you wouldn’t want to eat there either.

What makes a restaurant different from any other building that members of the ‘dirty’ public go to?

middleager · 10/11/2022 08:43

What a waste of energy, waahing clothes worn once. We really are spoilt if that's the case.
