Is an oodie better than a dressing gown? šŸ¤”

Been seeing oodies mentioned a lot on here lately. I’m always looking for ways to stay warm without turning on the heating and currently wear my dressing gown in the evening when it’s coldest in the house… So my question is, is the oodie better than the dressing gown?

I would say that a dressing gown is more if you are up and about doing stuff and an Oodie is more if you are sat plonked on the sofa.

ThunderMoo · 09/11/2022 05:31

How fluffy is your dressing gown

I would say it has an average amount of fluff for a dressing gown 😁

Then an oodie will probably be fluffier and warmer. They also cover me more higher up, the dressing gown has more of a gap around my neck. Disadvantage of oodie is that you can't do much in it - I wouldn't cook in it for example. Dressing gown easier to take on and off etc if you're working in it and get a zoom call.

As PP mentioned, they are for different things. You can’t ā€˜do’ much in an Oodie apart from sit/lay, whereas you can do most usual tasks in a dressing gown. So, ideally you would have both but for different purposes. Dressing gown for up and about doing normal run of the mill stuff and Oodie for pretty much sitting still.

Yes, no gaps at the front

Hmm this is a good point, I bet it’s warmer with not have the gapšŸ¤”

I would say oodie. I haven't had to turn my heating on yet purely because they are so amazing. I might even be able to make it all the way through!

Mine is from b&m and was £18. I imagine a genuine one is even better.

muddlinthroughit · 09/11/2022 05:57

Love my Oodie. Amazon £20!

Chloefairydust · 09/11/2022 06:00

Where’s the best place to buy one? I don’t want to spend too much so the cheaper the better

The gap makes a huge difference. Also the hood covers my neck too. My oodie has been almost too warm on occasion so I do feel there is a time and place for both.

Primark do a good one, as do M&S.

Chloefairydust · 09/11/2022 06:03

Just checked eBay and the bidding on a used one has reached £70 😱😱😱

ooh Primark sounds good… Are they in the pyjamas section?

CeeceeBloomingdale · 09/11/2022 06:07

My DD has a genuine Oodie. I have a nice fluffy copy from Amazon and a Primark one they are just big jumpers. They do not compare to the genuine one which is loads thicker. It is not a dressing gown substitute, it has a different purpose. I doubt I could do more than just sit in it though.

JobSeekingMissile · 09/11/2022 06:32

Look for offers on kuddly brand. Much prefer them to oodie. Hate dressing gowns as they gape and come undone/ loose

whatone · 09/11/2022 06:36

Keep an eye on Vinted for second hand ones, I got a nearly new one for £20 which felt like a good bargain.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 09/11/2022 06:38

I prefer my oodie as I find dressing gowns fall open at the front and let in the cold. Mine is from Online Home Store (which has lots of lovely warm things super cheap!) and is very thick and warm. I find I can do anything in mine, not just sit on the sofa.

Yabado · 09/11/2022 06:47

I have two genuine oddies and a fake one from online home store
the fake one is ok and I love the leopard print of it but the original oddie is 100 percent better and warmer

My DH has a fake one and asked me to buy him a genuine for Xmas as he wore one of mine the other day ( look like a knob as it got sloth on it) and said mine is much warmer and thicker .

on the original site you can often get 2 for £90
I bought a family pack of 6 original oddies and Im giving one each to my nieces nephews & my sister for Christmas

CatsEatDogs · 09/11/2022 06:54

Only think i’d add to this is to get a long wearable blanket not a knee length one. Ive only oodies I’ve seen are knee length whereas there are loads of the same thing (called wearable blanket) on Amazon and other places which are much longer. Imo the longer ones keep you much warmer. When your legs are warm then your whole self will be too. Otherwise the shorter ones are just a very warm jumper with a hood šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø
I wear a long one a lot and can wear it for doing other stuff than laying round, I pretty much wear it all evening, cooking and everything.

maddiemookins16mum · 09/11/2022 06:59

I’ve just ordered two of George at Asda Oodie type things. Fab reviews and under Ā£20 each.

ErinAndTonic · 09/11/2022 07:07

Oodie is far superior! My dressing gown/s have been demoted.

I also agree the real thing is far better, they do sometimes do deals and you can get them for £50. I do light jobs and simple cooking in mine (I am living in it lately) and I've had to ask my partner to turn the heating off whenever it comes on!

I got them on a 2 for Ā£100 deal so gave him the other one, he wasn't sure at first but now wears it a lot. I wear mine when WFH and take it off for important calls as it swamps me at 5'2 šŸ˜… going to get my mum one for Christmas too.

Sound like I work for them haha but I just love mine and tempted to get another!

I wear leggings or PJ bottoms underneath.. too long and I think I'd trip on it

Singleandproud · 09/11/2022 07:14

From what I understand proper Oodies are massive and great for being sat but not much else.

I have a primark one which is a great size and still warm but it's functional.

I feel like dressing gowns are more for going to bed and would never answer the door in one, but I would in my Oodie.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 09/11/2022 07:18

I bought a kudd.ly because the reviews were better than for Oodies. It's warm, but the hood is very annoying
