I’ve always been a fan of George. I read his biography “Take it like a man” and he was really humble about his heroin addiction and loss of fame and how he found Buddhism. I think I must have forgotten about his crime or maybe the shocking details of it and was looking forward to seeing him back on screen.
However, within minutes I was really put off by his arrogance, superior attitude and his new teeth which he clearly is struggling to talk with. I read about the 2007 offence and the details are shocking.
Every young person I have spoken to say that they are totally grossed out by the fact that he chained a sex worker up and beat him with chains. To them, he is some old weirdo who still thinks he’s relevant but his actions were so vile he should never be back on our screens.
To older people he’s that great Karma Chameleon singer who did something a bit dodgy but it involved another man so that’s ok.
The comment he made while waiting for a camp mate to arrive “they’re late so they must be a woman” was like something an1980s comedian would say. He hasn’t realised we’ve all moved on.
Yes he’s served his time and he should be rehabilitated. But he can go and do that at Eighties Revival concerts and opening supermarkets in the back of beyond. There’s enough old pop stars knocking around, go and get one of them to eat kangaroo arse on screen.
He can’t even win us over with his charm and wit anymore, as he seems to hate the other camp mates. He’s a violent abuser and it doesn’t sit right with me.
