Employer's gifts

If you get Christmas gifts from your employer, what was the one you liked best? I've been asked to buy gifts (the same for everyone) for our staff. Currently it's all women (30 - 50 age range) and the budget is £100 per person. Apparently they've already done make up bags, passport covers, scarves, candles, vouchers, etc. Please do not suggest money as they also get Xmas bonuses already. Help please as I have no idea what to get! Thank you.

Hamper from Fortnums. Or M&S if you want to get more for your money!

tealandteal · 03/11/2022 16:43

I don’t get them but I always preferred it when DH got hampers from his employer. There is always something in a hamper for everyone.

Razzle5 · 03/11/2022 16:44

Not a hamper!!!!

a Hush voucher
A John Lewis voucher
A voucher for Freddie’s flowers delivery for a few months

Marks and Spencer vouchers
Covers everyone. John Lewis would do the same as you can spend them
In Waitrose.

Ted27 · 03/11/2022 16:48

a hamper is the safest bet.

naming particular shops that you like isnt helpful, not everyone likes Hush, not everyone loves gin, prosecco or whatever the latest drink is

Dinoswearunderpants · 03/11/2022 16:48

Buy a gift voucher.

Healthy hamper.

Champneys kit.

Kate Space bag.

Necklace.

£100 is a great amount. Annoying it's a bulk buy but makes sense.

Don't forget when you're buying it, to use a site like topcashback. You might as well make some money out of it too.

LeafHunter · 03/11/2022 16:48

Most of my friends get hampers from work and it always goes well. They swap for who wants what - my friend can’t eat dairy but gives it away or swaps for something else.

worst I ever had was £50 worth of scratch cards.

CMOTDibbler · 03/11/2022 16:49

I'd prefer a voucher - Marks and Spencer probably as you could splurge on food, homewares, beauty or clothes. We get two bottles of wine which is pretty useless to me, and then we got a wine store voucher which ended up costing us money.
DH has previously had a hamper and that felt like it was a lot of money for not a lot of actual stuff

Tillow4ever · 03/11/2022 16:49

Honestly? The best year was when they gave us each £250 in Love to Shop vouchers! That was on top of our weeks pay Christmas bonus.

Given how tight things are going to get for people, as boring as it sounds, I bet money or vouchers would provide a big sigh of relief - no point giving someone a posh handbag if they can't afford to leave their house, or will have to sell it to put food on the table. But if they aren't in that position, they could use the voucher to buy something to their taste!

A Betty's hamper.

A Betty's hamper.

I would regift the lot

so a positive In that sense I suppose

but having said that - I don’t generally tend to give jam and shortbread for Christmas present as I figure most people are drowning in them

WeAreTheHeroes · 03/11/2022 17:01

A hamper or M&S/John Lewis voucher.

Relocatiorelocation · 03/11/2022 17:02

I'd hate a hamper, I've had a few over the years and am always spectacularly disappointed. Just to give some balance.

I'd love a gift voucher though, John Lewis or Marks would be perfect.

Sparkletastic · 03/11/2022 17:03

I'd want a voucher. John Lewis or M&S ideally.
If it has to be an actual gift then a White Company gift set.

I'd love any of these .

Bluevelvetsofa · 03/11/2022 17:07

I suppose you’d need to know whether there were vegans/ vegetarians before buying a hamper. Betty’s do a lot of different options though.

snazzlealpaca · 03/11/2022 17:10

Bear in mind that gifts of vouchers to employees are taxable, in the same way that a cash bonus is taxable.

Dragonskin · 03/11/2022 17:10

Definitely not a Hush voucher, their stuff is like marmite and I'm definitely in the Hate category so would be distinctly underwhelmed to get a voucher I couldn't use

I was once given a White Company gift set and was really pleased.

Voucher

But if not that then a hamper

Justkeepsmilingx · 03/11/2022 17:27

I’d suggest a family hamper from M&S and a voucher from there with it to make up the money.
I am teetotal so always seems a waste to get a boozy hamper - and lots won’t like it - but things like cakes, sweets, jam, tea - are all lovely for a single person or family. Then they have the voucher to treat themselves too.

pilates · 03/11/2022 17:39

Good luck. It will be very hard to please everyone so I would stick with vouchers. Generous company you work for.

DreamingOfSoftWhiteSand · 03/11/2022 17:52

Thanks but I've been told no vouchers. As for hampers it'd be hard as some need to be posted around the world and post brexit mailing food and drink is a nightmare. Any other ideas please?
