Employer's gifts

If you get Christmas gifts from your employer, what was the one you liked best? I've been asked to buy gifts (the same for everyone) for our staff. Currently it's all women (30 - 50 age range) and the budget is £100 per person. Apparently they've already done make up bags, passport covers, scarves, candles, vouchers, etc. Please do not suggest money as they also get Xmas bonuses already. Help please as I have no idea what to get! Thank you.

A refillable leather journal and a couple of refills. With or without initials.

Initial pendant necklaces/ID bracelets

DazzleRazzles · 03/11/2022 19:05

I have personally hated hampers in the past

my employer has a much larger budget but some of the items we’ve received that went down well (along with other items) were

Amazon vouchers
glossy box subscriptions
A massive mixed crate of wine (great for regifting)
A really nice eyeshadow pallet (still have it!)

Could you pre-select a few different things and offer people a choice?

Realistnotpessimist · 03/11/2022 19:23

This makes me so angry. People are struggling to heat their homes and an organisation can pay £100 per person on gifts they probably don't even need or want but they've said no vouchers (which might actually be a godsend for someone). Rediculous. Not your fault OP but I wish employers would open their eyes before thinking things like this through. I'd be so angry if my employer got me a useless gift when what I really need is food or money to turn on my heating.

I second the flower subscription if you can get it to work across the countries you need to.

AndSoFinally · 03/11/2022 19:31

Yes I think I'd go for letterbox flowers subscription, given the previous list of things you've chosen.

YouLookinSusBro · 03/11/2022 19:32

I would hate a flower subscription 🤷

You're never going to please everyone though

ChickenMaths · 03/11/2022 19:37

A Mr B's Reading Emporium subscription?

It's an independent bookshop who either chat to you on the phone or email or you can fill out a quiz, and they send a book to you once a month based on your likes and interests. I got one for DH last Christmas and it's been lovely- the packaging is beautiful, like a gift a month. They shop worldwide. £100 would get you 6 months each I think. Surely they'd be something for everyone there- fiction, recipe books etc...

You wools be better off giving them the voucher and paying the tax than giving people £100 of stuff they don't want.

Our budget is £150 per person. We get a £50 voucher and a hamper and a party.

piefacedClique · 03/11/2022 19:42

Neom or white company electric diffuser. I have the neom ones….. below and the larger version and I bought my mum the white company one which is actually more beautiful. The remainder could be a voucher to buy themselves an oil of their choice. I use mine every day and actually cried when my son accidentally knocked it over and smashed it. Thank goodness for replacement parts! x

Aesop handwash / body lotion etc
a really nice journal / meal planner type stuff from papier

jaffacakeany1 · 03/11/2022 19:51

How about spa day vouchers or beauty treatments/massages? It's something people would enjoy but not have to pay for themselves.

Magn · 03/11/2022 19:52

I've never had a hamper that wasn't overpriced and mediocre. Please avoid them. Best for me has always been an m+s or John Lewis voucher and a bunch of flowers/plant.

spottygymbag · 03/11/2022 19:53

We do mini hampers each year for ours. They're a mixture of gourmet snack things, pudding and sauce, wine or bubbles, candle and glass xmas decoration and then some gingerbread activity that becomes a competition (tree, house or train). Feedback was that it's nice to have things for throughout the period, some for keeping, some for using and items that can be regifted (nothing branded).
From DH's we have had ice cream makers (re-sold), some phone camera motion thingy, a beach set (towels and paddle ball set all still in their wrapping), beautiful picnic basket set with snacks and bubbles.
Least favourite- the Christmas hams.

drpet49 · 03/11/2022 19:54

A voucher.

i hate hampers- such a waste of money

QuillBill · 03/11/2022 19:57

Neom or white company electric diffuser.

I would absolutely hate that. I like my air to be flavour free. You are never going to be able to find something that some people don't think of as waste of £100.

Oblongogo · 03/11/2022 20:00

a really good quality travel mug / flask and picnic blanket is something that I would think most people would get use out of whatever their taste?

CeeceeBloomingdale · 03/11/2022 20:02

If vouchers aren’t an option I’d prefer a hamper to the other options here. Alcohol free would be my preference.

AppleCreamSlice · 03/11/2022 20:02

Backpack/cooler bag
Bluetooth speaker
Cosy blanket
Fitbit/activity watch

Bakeacaketoday · 03/11/2022 20:10

highvizjacket · 03/11/2022 16:47

Marks and Spencer vouchers
Covers everyone. John Lewis would do the same as you can spend them
In Waitrose.

Just to put the stop on this is can't be vouchers or else the employee would be taxed. (only vouchers if under £50)

BurscoughBooths · 03/11/2022 20:17

jaffacakeany1 · 03/11/2022 19:51

How about spa day vouchers or beauty treatments/massages? It's something people would enjoy but not have to pay for themselves.

I can’t think of a worse way to spend a day than going to a spa. I’d never use a voucher for beauty treatments either.

The best option has to be a hamper (even though there will be items that are not to an individual’s taste, there will be something they like)

Fairyliz · 03/11/2022 20:20

£100 per person (faints with shock).
I’ve worked in the public sector for 44 years and never even got a box of chocolates.
I assume if your company can afford this amount, your employees are fairly highly paid?
If so why not give a donation on their behalf to a charity so the money could do some good, rather than half the staff get something they don’t want.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 03/11/2022 20:37

What about an advent calendar? Since they're all women something like the Rituals would work. They have one that's around £100 and one that's around £70. If you go for the cheaper one you could add a silk eye mask or similar.

BarbaraofSeville · 03/11/2022 20:43

I'd rather have £100 less tax than some of the stupidly priced Emperor's new clothes people are suggesting.

It's like a competition to see how little you can get for the money.
