What's the nicest hotel you've stayed in?

We're currently at the most incredible hotel after years and years of staying at absolute shit holes. I think this is the best hotel we've ever stayed in. It's a special occasion and we've saved hard for this. We're at the brew dog hotel in Edinburgh and it's amazing. I feel so close to Dh after this weekend, it's been such a hard time for us lately!

It has a bed on a mezzanine level, 5L keg of beer in the room, beer fridge in the shower (lol) included a beer school event on friday, breakfast today that was served until 3pm in our room!!!, dinner tonight and breakfast tomorrow and Monday when we leave. The room has an oven, little kitchen etc. residents only area with 24 hr pick and mix, hotdogs on demand and 24 coffee.

It's insane. Yes it's very ott but 2 months ago our dd died in Scbu, it's been 3 months of utter hell and this was a treat.

What's your fave hotel stay ever?

Sorry for your loss OP.

That hotel sounds amazing - I’ll have to investigate it as an option for me & DH.

The best hotel we stayed in was The Chequers in Norfolk, just a boutique hotel, not hugely pricey but it is simply perfect for us when we need a peaceful getaway with no cooking (most of our holidays are self catering).

GyozaGuiting · 30/10/2022 09:39

I know it’s a bit different, but a virgin voyages cruise, free food from 20 different restaurants 24/7, a running track, gym classes, dance classes, meditation, amazing shows, I could go on! I’m a cruise convert now.

Hard to choose! Outside the UK probably the Intercontinental in Sydney. At about 5pm you can go to the roof and they bring you free drinks and snacks while you sit and look at the view of the harbour while the sun sets. In the UK probably Pennyhill Park - I stayed there a lot and loved it, particularly at xmas when they did the most amazing buffets and xmas treasure hunts.

Sponsored for your loss and glad you two are having a nice treat together.

My favourite hotel I have ever stayed in was the Four Season Anguilla. Lovely minimalist design which I love. In terms of a great stay with kids the Lux Belle Mare in Mauritius was also up there.

In the UK I haven't really stayed in any memorable ones so good to hear about some!

RampantIvy · 30/10/2022 09:44

So sorry gor your loss@toor. I hope your lovely stay in Edinburgh is helping ease the pain Flowers

We stayed at The Castello Boutique Hotel in Sissi, Crete a few years ago. It was a Jet2 package, but it did not feel like a package holiday at all.

Everything about the hotel ticked all the right boxes.

FriendHelper · 30/10/2022 09:48

Best ever - Grand Floridian at Disney World (although it helped we were Club Level with a jacuzzi and huge balcony with amazing view)

Al Qasr in Dubai

Fairmont Plaza in NYC

Wynn Las Vegas

Also lots of the other Disney hotels we love and tend to prefer to most of the fancy non-Disney places we've stayed. Just find the service and attention to detail much better.

Animal Kingdom Lodge, The Boardwalk, Polynesian all at WDW and loved them all. And Disneyland Hotel and Art of Marvel Hotel at Disneyland Paris both wonderful too.

Without a doubt The Woolacombe Bay Hotel Devon. So many superlatives and the views are outstanding.

CoffeeInTheClouds · 30/10/2022 09:52

So pleased that you are enjoying a well deserved break.

I think for us, it is Rush Creek Lodge in Yosemite. It is a perfect balance of wilderness luxury.

bonzaitree · 30/10/2022 09:54

I won't say which one but I will say work paid!!

sausage767 · 30/10/2022 10:01

Hotel Canal Grande Venice, in the Grande Canal Suite.
The Fullerton Bay Hotel in Singapore
The Viceroy in Ubud, Bali
The Ritz Carlton in Batchelor Gulch, Colorado

Choconut · 30/10/2022 10:10

I'm not a fan of enormous hotels and often stay in airbnb's but my favourite boutique hotel we've stayed in is probably Riad Yasmine in Marrakech. Not ridiculously expensive by any stretch but so pretty.

So sorry for your loss, I am glad you have managed a break.

Favourite hotels would be:

Lebua in Bangkok (all suite, floor to ceiling windows, Skybar)
Marina Bay Sands in Singapore (think Crazy Rich Asians)
Grand Mirage Bali (DS was getting married, got a shit room, upgraded us to an ocean front suite as the threat of an erupting volcano meant there were lots of cancellations)
Intercontinental Sydney (50th birthday treat)
The Langham Melbourne (paid for a basic room and I think they took pity on my obvious cancer chic headscarf and they gave us a gorgeous room with river views)

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 30/10/2022 10:18

Shangri La in London and landmark London both great!

one in central Brighton on seafront which got bombed, not impressed!

Waldorf Astoria and some place in central Washington DC also great. Jazz in Barcelona nice too.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 30/10/2022 10:19

one of the Gloria palace hotels in Gran Canaria was much better than I expected too.

FlirtyMelons · 30/10/2022 10:20

I loved The Bellagio Las Vegas, just stunning in the lobby and the seasonal displays were incredible. Rooms huge and we loved the shops/restaurants there. Also The Wynn was amazing. My favourite part of the day was walking back to our room past all the shops (which I sadly couldn't afford to actually shop in but I could dream) the panoramic view from our room was amazing.

ManefesationofConciousness · 30/10/2022 10:27

Taj Palace Mumbai (although not as good as it was)
What is now the 4 seasons Nam Hai (again not as good as pre 4s)
Four Seasons Hong Kong (sadly will never get to go back to HK)
Al Maha in Dubai
Four Seasons Langkawi was a favourite for many years

Pongwe Beach Hotel, Zanzibar.
I went over 10 years ago. It wasn't flash or anything but the setting was amazing

I think I went here to watch Rugby match. A long time ago though, I stayed at Matemwe at the Zanzibar retreat.

Rebelmcstreettuff · 30/10/2022 10:32

The Venetian Las Vegas, our suite was amazing.

Glad you have had a lovely time OP,sorry for your loss.
I'm looking for a recommendation for Lake Garda for next Summer.

orbitalcrisis · 30/10/2022 10:43

Intercontinental in Gangnam, Soeul. We had a suite overlooking the roof terrace bar.

Lifeisnevereasy · 30/10/2022 10:48

I’m so so sorry for your loss op, I can’t ever imagine the pain you both must be going through. I hope you manage to have a lovely time.
You’re in my fave place, absolutely love it there. Spent a few nights in September for my sons 21st and we all loved it. It’s hard to describe but it’s just fab. Currently training our puppy so we can take him next time. Oh and breakfast is amazing, enjoy! X

Boxshibe · 30/10/2022 10:50

OldTinHat · 30/10/2022 06:19

Amberley Castle in Sussex.

We got married there it was lovely.

OldTinHat · 30/10/2022 10:53

@Boxshibe So did I! And we honeymooned there after the wedding for a few days.

Happily divorced now though 😆

Intemperatefatty · 30/10/2022 11:00

Very sorry for your loss OP.

For me it’s a close call between 3:

  • The Mandarin Oriental in Kuala Lumpur - stayed as part of our honeymoon 16 odd years ago. Absolutely heaven with the most spectacular views of KL. And the food! Hoping to return for DHs 50th next year
  • The Grand Floridian at WDW - the hotel itself wasn’t the most luxurious but the Disney hospitality room it to another level. Truly made to feel like royalty
  • Atlantis the Palm in Dubai with imperial club access. Pure indulgent luxury with one of the best water parks in the world on your doorstep.
WowIlikereallyhateyou · 30/10/2022 11:02

The most luxurious has been Burj al arab, not a fan of Dubai though.
Chedi in muscat was fabulous.
Le Sirenuese in Positano

TheTeddyBears · 30/10/2022 11:08

5 star one in Dubai was stunning. Beautiful furnishings, marble bathroom, molten brown toiletries (that I used to nick every day 😂 so they wld replenish) Free mini bar and the most massive comfortable bed!

Another 5star one in Mexico. Beautiful large room with seating area. We had a jacuzzi in the bathroom, free mini bar and free room service included with the all inclusive.

These days it's a lot more basic holidaying with the kids 😂
