What's the nicest hotel you've stayed in?

We're currently at the most incredible hotel after years and years of staying at absolute shit holes. I think this is the best hotel we've ever stayed in. It's a special occasion and we've saved hard for this. We're at the brew dog hotel in Edinburgh and it's amazing. I feel so close to Dh after this weekend, it's been such a hard time for us lately!

It has a bed on a mezzanine level, 5L keg of beer in the room, beer fridge in the shower (lol) included a beer school event on friday, breakfast today that was served until 3pm in our room!!!, dinner tonight and breakfast tomorrow and Monday when we leave. The room has an oven, little kitchen etc. residents only area with 24 hr pick and mix, hotdogs on demand and 24 coffee.

It's insane. Yes it's very ott but 2 months ago our dd died in Scbu, it's been 3 months of utter hell and this was a treat.

What's your fave hotel stay ever?

Hotel Ile Rousse in Bandol, France. What a delight. It overlooks a quiet bay and yet is an easy walk into town. We didn't use our car for 4 days.

Fireballxl5 · 30/10/2022 06:37

So sorry for your loss OP. 💐

The Marriott Renaissance in Paris was beautiful
Even the lifts had Edwardian figures painted on the sides, jars of sweets in the reception area and Bulgari toiletries in the room.

We also stayed (last minute) in a small and rather dated hotel in Switzerland. As we were shown to our room I was thinking how expensive it was and then the owner opened the curtains and we were literally looking at the alps. The best hotel view I’ve ever had.

So sorry for your loss. Flowers we stayed at a lovely hotel at lake Garda in Italy. Amazing.

We are planning on going to lake Garda next year, which hotel was it?

Best hotel was Raffles in Singapore for our honeymoon.

I’m so sorry for your loss OP, I am so glad this weekend has been lovely for you both.

Funnily enough, DH and I were discussing this yesterday and how our favourite hotel stay is one in which the lift broke and there was no hot water one morning. I know that sounds mad but the hotel staff were so incredible, it didn’t matter. (I will say I am not sure how guests with mobility issues were catered for)

The staff put different surprises on each floor each day so as you were climbing the stairs you got little goodies. They opened the bar area and gave out free food and drink whilst the hot water was repaired. They then let everyone due to check out that morning stay much longer to be able to shower etc or get a partial refund. It was a case of a series of unfortunate events but the hotel took full responsibility and did what they could to help.

Outside of these incidents the staff were just genuinely warm and lovely and you could tell the manager was just lovely to his staff. It just left us with such a warm fuzzy feeling but we are too scared to go back in case the staff have changed and it won’t be the same!

The Shangri-la at the Shard in London is a fantastic hotel stay. I had a milestone birthday there, courtesy of DH.

Really @SandyY2K? I’m genuinely surprised by this. DH’s company has their London office in the Shard and they use the Shangri-La for all non-local staff who need to make occasional trips there. DH has always said it seems disappointingly basic for what’s supposed to be a luxury hotel and if he had to pay those prices to stay there he absolutely wouldn’t.

I think my favourite hotel stay ever would be the Hotel Eden in Rome. We were fortunate to stay in one of their suites for a long weekend as part of a milestone birthday gift and the views across Rome were stunning. The hotel restaurant is also amazing.

Sounds fab Op glad you are enjoying it, so sorry to hear of your loss Flowers
My best hotel still is the hanging gardens in Ubud, amazing utterly beautiful setting, outdoor shower and bath, a little private pool set in the jungle that I rescued fireflies from at night while skinny dipping. We had our bathroom en suite inspired by that stay and one day we will go back with our DD.

tuvamoodyson · 30/10/2022 06:51

The Balmoral in Edinburgh
Gleneagles
Gritti Palace Venice. All absolutely fabulous! We’re back to Gleneagles next week for a few days and I can’t wait!

gogohmm · 30/10/2022 06:52

This amazing place in Hertfordshire, began with H, 5 stars luxurious for work. Also the Kingsbury in Colombo, amazing - handmade chocolates in the room, complimentary afternoon tea, a driver (if I wanted one, most put out I took a tuttut). Gorgeous hotel

Forestfever · 30/10/2022 06:52

The Taj Palace, Mumbai. We got upgraded to the same suite that Prince William and Kate had stayed in the year before - for free!

The Oberoi Calcutta was also amazing. A little bit of heaven in an otherwise very intense city.

mollibu · 30/10/2022 06:53

Hi, OP!

Sorry to hear about your loss Flowers

What room did you book? Looking for something for my partner and this is perfect! Was it the brewmaster suite? Thanks!

Forestfever · 30/10/2022 06:53

In the Taj Palace they took a bit longer than they said ironing an item of clothing so they brought us a bottle of wine to say sorry!

Parmesam · 30/10/2022 06:55

The Savoy. Only one night because it was sooooo expensive!!

cyclamenqueen · 30/10/2022 06:57

Hambleton Hall in Rutland for old fashioned country house atmosphere and amazing food. For boutique U.K. break The Queensbury in Bath, we stayed for our 10th anniversary in 2000, went last year and they welcomed us back ! Also loved Riad Kniza in Morocco.

Maggiesgirl · 30/10/2022 06:59

Raffles in Singapore. Always wanted to stay there when growing up in Singapore, spent a weekend out of a two week honeymoon there ( couldn't afford any longer) it was wonderful.

autienotnaughty · 30/10/2022 07:00

@Frenchfancy
It was the hotel caesius thermae & spa resort in bardolino. The hotel was beautiful , great room and lovely food. The spa is good too but it is a nudist spa (normal in Italy) And the location was fantastic, very peaceful, it was a 15 min walk along the lake to the centre of bardolino where all the restaurants/bars/shops are. Such a lovely walk and the lake is amazing.

MovingOnUpp · 30/10/2022 07:01

Sorry for your loss OP.

ivykaty44 · 30/10/2022 07:04

Maggiesgirl I had a meal in the restaurant to celebrate my birthday, it was delicious & beautiful setting - a few decades ago now

Shitfather · 30/10/2022 07:05

I’m so sorry for your loss OP. I hop you and DH and continue to hold each other close.

For me, Al Bustan in Muscat and Terra Nostra a in the Azores. I visit the latter at least once a year as it has access to the most divine thermal pool and botanical garden.

shiningcuckoo · 30/10/2022 07:07

The Torridon at Loch Torridon. A Victorian hunting lodge on the edge of the loch. Beautiful food, roaring fires, luxurious old fashioned guest lounges, a whisky bar, tartan everything.

somewhereovertherain · 30/10/2022 07:09

Sorry for your loss

La Samanna in St Mstton

in the uk my fault favourite has been the St. Mawes Hotel In Cornwall.

another favourite is Corinthia Palace in Malte

whirlyhead · 30/10/2022 07:13

Either burgh island in Devon or the manoir aux quat’saisons in Oxford I think. Though I’ve stayed in some really enjoyable cheaper ones. The Gilpin in the Lake District is wonderful too especially if you get a room with a hot tub.

33goingon64 · 30/10/2022 07:19

Currently in it! The Jnane Tamsa in Marrakesh. I want to live here.

ChefCheese · 30/10/2022 07:21

Walwick Hall in Northumberland. The hotel was gorgeous but the best thing was the walks and the countryside on its doorstep. I'm sorry for your loss Flowers

HairyToity · 30/10/2022 07:21

The Falcondale in the UK.

Stayed in an amazing holiday once in Tuscany, but I can't remember it's name, or find in google. It was about 15 years ago.

RhubarbFairy · 30/10/2022 07:29

So sorry for your loss. I'm glad that the two of you have been able to spend this time together.

The Royal Crescent Hotel in Bath. We stayed there on our wedding night. We live locally (and for a while lived a couple of streets from the Royal Crescent), so have no reason to stay in a hotel in Bath ordinarily.
My PILS were staying in our house over our wedding as we were opting for a hotel closer to the venue (the Assembly Rooms) so I told DH that I wanted to completely go all out for that night.
