What's the nicest hotel you've stayed in?

We're currently at the most incredible hotel after years and years of staying at absolute shit holes. I think this is the best hotel we've ever stayed in. It's a special occasion and we've saved hard for this. We're at the brew dog hotel in Edinburgh and it's amazing. I feel so close to Dh after this weekend, it's been such a hard time for us lately!

It has a bed on a mezzanine level, 5L keg of beer in the room, beer fridge in the shower (lol) included a beer school event on friday, breakfast today that was served until 3pm in our room!!!, dinner tonight and breakfast tomorrow and Monday when we leave. The room has an oven, little kitchen etc. residents only area with 24 hr pick and mix, hotdogs on demand and 24 coffee.

It's insane. Yes it's very ott but 2 months ago our dd died in Scbu, it's been 3 months of utter hell and this was a treat.

What's your fave hotel stay ever?

UK: The Grove, Narbeth. It’s like being at a weekend house party hosted by very relaxed, very wealthy friends who have great taste

Overseas: The Esplendido in Port Soller, Mallorca. Lovely rooms, great spa, incredible service.

Really @SandyY2K? I’m genuinely surprised by this. DH’s company has their London office in the Shard and they use the Shangri-La for all non-local staff who need to make occasional trips there. DH has always said it seems disappointingly basic for what’s supposed to be a luxury hotel and if he had to pay those prices to stay there he absolutely wouldn’t.

I think my favourite hotel stay ever would be the Hotel Eden in Rome. We were fortunate to stay in one of their suites for a long weekend as part of a milestone birthday gift and the views across Rome were stunning. The hotel restaurant is also amazing.

I agree with this. Some Shangri-La hotels are very basic. I’ve stayed at the one in London and Sydney and thought they were nothing special. The London one was just a night to be fair, for an anniversary, so might have been more better if we stayed for longer, whereas Sydney was a week, and both times I was disappointed. I think it’s just their locations that are special.

My favourite hotel stay was the Bulgari in Dubai. Think pure luxury and comfort. And also Palm Bay in the Whitsundays. The hotel itself was nothing special, but it is a great experience to be in the only hotel on an island and knowing there were no more than 20 people at any one time.

I’m also really sorry for your loss OP. I’m really pleased you and your DH had a lovely time together.

I'm so sorry OP Flowers

We had two nights in the Peninsula in Hong Kong. They upgraded us when we got there and we were given a junior suite with the most amazing view. The bed was ENORMOUS and the bathroom was as a big our bedroom back home.

The service was phenomenal too. Very special indeed.

Sounds a perfect hotel. You had me at 24 pick and mix! Will take a look.
I think this is a very personal question, depending on what you are used to. When I was younger I would have thought any hotel that didn't have nylon sheets would have been luxurious. I see there is some debate about Shangri la London. If you've not been to many hotels then this does have the wow factor, but to others
it could just be Meh.
I've been to the Wynn, amazing location and lovely decor but don't remember any amazing service.
Mine is Sani in Greece. Amazing service and we had an issue and they went way above and beyond to fix it. Sadly too expensive now.

Phulay Bay in Krabi, Thailand. The effect of walking on water at the reception was stunning. Beautiful villas and our personal butler was amazing. Sadly only a lottery win can get me back there now.

I'm so sorry for your loss, I'm so pleased your having a wonderful weekend together.

It has to be Amor Arenal in La Fortuna, Costa Rica. Just amazing like no where else I've stayed. Or Pangulasian Island in the Philippines

Pongwe Beach Hotel, Zanzibar.
I went over 10 years ago. It wasn't flash or anything but the setting was amazing

EndlessMagpies · 30/10/2022 08:42

The one that sticks clearest in my mind was a long time ago and I can't actually remember the name of the hotel. We were camping on the Isle of Wight in mid-summer and had a truly awful stormy night in the tent. As in having to park the car's wheels on the edge of it to stop it blowing away! We decided enough was enough, and booked into the nearest hotel we could find at short notice, which turned out to be somewhere in Ventnor. Massive four-poster bed, and a giant bathroom with one of those stately-home style roll-top baths with claw feet. The food was amazing, and it was absolute bliss.
