Nearly the end of October - is your heating on yet?

Usually we'd have had it on well before now but we're holding out. We're up in the North East so it does get chilly but it's not too bad yet

We do have a log burner - probably had it on 2 or 3 times a week so far this month

Upstairs is getting nippy though and I could do with a thicker quilt. We only have a 4.5 tog as dh is like a hot water bottle!

South East - nope. It’s 18 degrees today so not needed! So far, we’ve only had the heating on once since the summer, but I was unwell and struggling to get warm. Hoping we get another couple of weeks until it’s needed.

ParkheadParadise · 27/10/2022 19:10

Yes, our heating has been on for weeks.
In the morning and evenings for a couple of hours at a time.
Usually it's on all day by this time of the year.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 27/10/2022 19:11

Nearly the end of October have we hit 1000 threads about who has their heating on?

Can't be far off

stormelf · 27/10/2022 19:12

I'm in Kent and not needed it yet. Temperature was 20degrees today. Hopefully we can hold out another few more weeks before needing to use it once temperature drops. Pre kids we never turned it on until mid December but usually have it on by end of October since having our first child. Haven't got any new borns in the house this year so we will definitely hold out for as long as possible

BananaCocktails · 27/10/2022 19:12

no was 22 in London today

Vapeyvapevape · 27/10/2022 19:14

I've just put it on about an hour ago to dry some washing as the previous load took too long to dry and started to smell funny so I had to wash it again.
If I didn't have to dry the washing, it wouldn't be on though.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 27/10/2022 19:25

no
nearly but not yet
not necessary

Northernsoullover · 27/10/2022 19:27

An hour here or there. Certainly not on timed. I've put it on tonight because some clothes need help drying but I'll have to turn it off soon.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 27/10/2022 19:27

Over 20 degrees here today. That worries me just as much as the cost of living tbh!

FishAndChipsForDinner · 27/10/2022 19:28

Nooe. Not needed it yet. East Anglia.

Sarahcoggles · 27/10/2022 19:29

Midlands, and not had any heating on at all yet. We're wearing jumpers! The thing that will push me over the edge will be not being able to dry clothes.

dontgobaconmyheart · 27/10/2022 19:32

No, but that has more to do with the current temperatures than the time of year. It's comfortably warm here (SE) and floating around 20 degrees.

I switched the summer duvets out for autumn/winter ones last week in an effort to be productive and have regretted it ever since and been hot every night. I'd switch back but I've already had them laundered and so thought I would just suffer it.

AlwaysLatte · 27/10/2022 19:34

We've had a handful of days when we've had it one for an hour from 6-7am this autumn, but not recently. We have had the log burner on in our living room most evenings though (partly because we've had both Covid and a cold run through the household recently) so there always a cosy room if anyone wants it.

Facecream · 27/10/2022 19:35

I’m sitting outside in a t-shirt (and jeans) - East Anglia, with most of the windows open.
I put it on for half an hour one night when SD was freezing- but she actually had a fever so it went off again.
It is so worrying that it’s so warm in this part of the country

Punkypinky · 27/10/2022 19:36

Not yet 18 degrees here today too. Didn't even need a coat.

ParsnipsAndPies · 27/10/2022 19:37

Well mines on a thermostat, so yes it's been coming on in the evenings to get the temperature up to 19 degrees. I feel the cold and even at 19 degrees I'm wearing layers, a sweater, thick socks and Slippers.

TwoMonthsOff · 27/10/2022 19:37

No not at all, it’s very warm here, Dorset, very humid though . My dehumidifier is showing high 80’s we have had loads of rain.
ife been sat in garden with flip flops on.

SunshineDesserts · 27/10/2022 19:37

@AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair Well thank fuck you came along then to add something constructive!

TwoMonthsOff · 27/10/2022 19:40

@Northernsoullover
thays the reason I’ve my dehumidifier on, there is not enough breeze outside but it’s very very mild, i have a hibiscus and a rose that’s coming into flower, even the plants are confused 🤨

RewildingAmbridge · 27/10/2022 19:42

No, it's been 20 degrees here today, outside!

Decafflatteplease · 27/10/2022 19:42

We've had it on 3 times this month, we tried to get to November with no heating but failed. Had it on when it was really windy and rainy, 200 year old house is cold and draughty!

reallyworriedjobhunter · 27/10/2022 19:48

I'm in London and ours hasn't come on yet. Our thermostat is set to 18 and the house hasn't gone below that yet. It was 19 in the garden today.

StillNotWarm · 27/10/2022 19:50

We've put it on for the odd hour - like your burner, maybe once or twice a week.
It's not on routinely yet - tho we had a patch a couple of weeks ago where I thought it was going to be on pretty soon.

My boss tells me there is a "heatwave" coming.

PollyEsther · 27/10/2022 19:51

Nope. We are on the south coast and it’s still 18-20 every day. Some evenings we’ve snuggled in blankets on the sofa, but more for comfort and cosiness than real cold. We’re not even in jumper/cardigan weather to be honest.

I’m baffled that some near us have turned theirs on (as in, we can see their boilers kicking out steam). I’m not a heating puritan by any means, but it’s genuinely not cold.

BruceIsACake · 27/10/2022 19:52

Nope, but to be fair it's not felt that cold either up north. I WFH most days and have been wearing a knock off Oodie to stay toasty. We're up and out in the morning really quickly so I don't usually have it on until evening anyway (pre-lockdown) but last winter it was on all day most days.
