Nearly the end of October - is your heating on yet?

Workyticket · 27/10/2022 19:07

Usually we'd have had it on well before now but we're holding out. We're up in the North East so it does get chilly but it's not too bad yet

We do have a log burner - probably had it on 2 or 3 times a week so far this month

Upstairs is getting nippy though and I could do with a thicker quilt. We only have a 4.5 tog as dh is like a hot water bottle!

Gufo · 27/10/2022 19:52

No, it's 18 degrees in the day. I have got my hot water bottle out for bedtime though!

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 27/10/2022 19:53

Nope not need yet. Luckily mine won’t be going on until after 5th November as we’re away.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 27/10/2022 19:54

Nope, windows still open most of the day here (Norfolk). Fake oodies have been on a couple of times though and blankets have been out occasionally.
I live in a 1st floor flat so get heated from below (no one above us) and have insulated lining paper which does a grand job at keeping the place toasty.

Pixiedust1234 · 27/10/2022 19:54

No, not had any form of heating since March. Sitting here in a t-shirt with window open. East Midlands.

MadamGardener · 27/10/2022 19:54

It’s cold, wet & windy here in the Highlands, the only heating we will be doing this year is the log-burner though. We all have 16.5tog quilts on the beds, and hot water bottles. And thermals!

Cantthinkofanewnameatm · 27/10/2022 19:54

No. I might close the patio doors in a minute tho as it’s getting cooler.

Notplayingball · 27/10/2022 19:54

Had it on since last month.

MissRainbowBrite · 27/10/2022 19:55

We're in the Midlands and I've clicked ours on a handful of times just for an hour mainly on days when I've been on school run and got utterly soaked in a downpour. We're very lucky to be in a new build and the temp downstairs hasn't dropped below 20 degrees, usually 22 when the sun has warmed the rooms up.

Allmarbleslost · 27/10/2022 20:07

No. The temperature in my house hasn't dropped below 18 degrees yet. It's been 20 most of today.

SunshineDesserts · 27/10/2022 19:37

@AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair Well thank fuck you came along then to add something constructive!

Are you using constructive in some kind of alternative meaning?

What could possibly be constructive about endless posts about heating?

Oblomov22 · 27/10/2022 20:18

Nope. Surrey. 20.8 degrees says hive. Ours hasn't even come on yet because it's so mild.

TheUsualChaos · 27/10/2022 20:21

Nope, haven't felt the need at all yet. South West and still so mild. Back doors have been open all day. Getting washing dry is starting get tricky though as we've had some wet weather. Suspect will need the heating on just to dry clothes before we actually feel cold enough to need it. .

theswoot · 27/10/2022 20:23

Ours is thermostat controlled and it’s clicked on early morning a couple of times but not very much.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 27/10/2022 19:11

Nearly the end of October have we hit 1000 threads about who has their heating on?

Can't be far off

On and on it goes, doesn't it.

ivykaty44 · 27/10/2022 20:24

I’ve been in the north east and it was a balmy temperature, no heating on as 19 degrees inside

home today in the midlands and it’s been 18 degrees here so no heating in inside

its due to be a high if at least 16 all through next week, so definitely no heating on as we’d roast

last year we’d turned the heating on by the last week of October, but shan’t be this year as it’s far to warm still

thankfull that’ll save on the gas bill

TheSausageKingofChicago · 27/10/2022 20:25

Not often. The odd hour here and there but very rarely. We’re definitely not into timer territory yet.

Workyticket · 27/10/2022 20:29

I'd apologise for starting the thread for those bored by it but you know... there's always the option for them not to open it 🤷‍♀️

Nope, we live in a 300 year old farmhouse. Not heating on yet and honestly don’t need it. It’s quite warm here, I think (rural southwest). We have put one log burner on maybe 3 times. But I’m currently sitting here in a vest top and skirt. Not cold at all yet. Kids still sleeping in just t-shirts.

Wishyfishy · 27/10/2022 20:32

TwoMonthsOff · 27/10/2022 19:37

No not at all, it’s very warm here, Dorset, very humid though . My dehumidifier is showing high 80’s we have had loads of rain.
ife been sat in garden with flip flops on.

Ugh yes, high 80s occasionally on my dehumidifier too.. so bad! I can get it down to 50s (at which point I switch it off), switch it back on a couple of hours later and it’s back to 75.

One room never got higher than 70s but I could literally feel the walls were damp - only took a few hours of dehumidifier to get rid - I think that particular paint brand just doesn’t let the water in at all. It’s the worst bit about the autumn - winter, this constant battle against humidity.

geraniumthefirst · 27/10/2022 20:33

Nope. It's been 20 degrees here in London, had to put the air con on in the car.

Alas, I don't think this will last...

midsomermurderess · 27/10/2022 20:35

Always the option to remark on this peculiar Mumsnet fixation with the heating too, @Workyticket . And apology for adding to the giant pointless, dull pile accepted.

ghostsandpumpkinsalready · 27/10/2022 20:36

No but it's still warm here ( and I'm going through the menopause and sweating like a weirdo)
I'm actually sat in a pair of shorts and a vest top it's so mild.

Workyticket · 27/10/2022 20:36

I'm amazed at you all sat with windows open!

We need a new roof (ex council house, all the remaining council owned in our street had new roofs about 6 years ago) which I think is why our jouse does get chilly.

I do feel the cold and throw in my Oodie and slipper socks as soon as I'm home these days

Dh is sat in t-shirt and shorts. Actually, so is DS!

InFiveMins · 27/10/2022 20:37

No, I'm in the north west and it's very mild here to say it's nearly the end of October!

maddiemookins16mum · 27/10/2022 20:39

Kent. Not been on at all yet, been off since late March. Hoping to keep it off for another month.
