If you didn't have to work for money, what would you do?

If money was no object what would you do instead of work? I'll go first- I would love to be a potter and an author (no experience of either but a girl can dream!)

Oh I just want to study! Languages. A Floristry course. A painting trip. Thank you OP for a great question, to make us all think about possibilities Smile

I haven't had to work for 25 years. I've spent a good deal of that time raising dc (large age gaps so never too demanding at any one time), done a few degrees for fun, taken up some sports and arts hobbies, travelled a bit, renovated properties, started a small creative business and tried some volunteering work. Small dc taking up most of my time at the moment, but looking forward to them all being at school so I can get back to my hobbies. I won't go back to volunteering though as it was just too much like real work with all the office politics and obligations involved.

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 27/10/2022 23:01

I would volunteer at a cat rescue. If I ever come into enough money to not work then that is first in my list.

FindingMeno · 27/10/2022 23:03

I would want to give something back to society (voluntary work), and travel both in company and alone.

Louisa259 · 27/10/2022 23:04

I would foster ❤️

ladygindiva · 27/10/2022 23:06

Yeah I'd be a ( crap ) painter and a ( mediocre) musician. I'm a music teacher. I like my job but I'd rather be outdoors drawing things or just playing music.

TheTeddyBears · 28/10/2022 09:32

I'd travel a lot! In between the travelling when at home I'd go to the gym/go for a swim, some days maybe go out for lunch, get a beauty treatment. Meet up with friends/family and basically just enjoy myself! I'd probably look at volunteering too. Probably with a food bank or something similar to help people.

Just come back to this and seen lots of new ones. I love them. I think daydreaming about another life where you're totally FREE from the daily grind is restorative in itself...if only to maybe plant a seed of something that we might be able to make happen even in a small way.

I've just discovered a passion for horses...I would love to spend loads of time on a yard learning all about them and getting really good at riding. If I suddenly won the lottery then I would take that a step further and look to own one at some point.

I would just like to stay home. Make the kids lovely breakfasts, potter around, clean the house. Make delicious food walk the dog & just escape the endless rush of my current life.

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 04/11/2022 15:07

I would be a groom at a stable.

NukaColaQuantum · 04/11/2022 15:08

I would just keep doing degrees in different subjects, for the mental stimulation.

xogossipgirlxo · 04/11/2022 15:13

Being a catsitter

cassiatwenty · 04/11/2022 15:19

I'd be an actress in something like Belgravia 🙏

Londongent · 04/11/2022 17:28

Writing, get properly fit, photography (landscape pictures)

GentlemanJay · 04/11/2022 17:29

I'm very lucky. If I didn't get paid for what I do, I'd probably do parts of it voluntarily.

Unicorn1919 · 04/11/2022 17:36

I would probably also spend my money on horses!

I also love learning so I imagine I would be signing up for lots of courses - academic, craft, other hobbies. I just love learning new things and meeting new people so it would be courses that require attendance rather than online stuff.

glovepillow22 · 04/11/2022 17:38

Luxury dog boarding business in our small area of land with secure dog field! I would also provide Foster care/rehabilitation to rescue dogs. The dream.

QuietNeighbour · 04/11/2022 17:42

Focus on my side hustle (pattern designer) and also research a perfect location (peaceful but well connected) to design and build a luxury eco dwelling. I’ll have a garden (don’t currently) so I’ll spend lots of time nurturing that and be reasonably self sufficient. Continuous education to develop total resilience and self sufficiency to live off the land (but not necessarily do it just be armed with the knowledge. Also learn about random stuff that interests me knowing I can drop it if it’s a mistake or can invest as heavily as needed in supplementary books etc. Will read and meditate and exercise. I’ll indulge in beautiful clothes and foods. If the money is truly limitless I’ll fund worthy causes and if all that gets boring maybe even start a whole cult on an island for kicks.

Simonjt · 04/11/2022 17:42

I’d go back to playing rugby fulltime, the wages (even championship) are crap.

BarrelOfOtters · 04/11/2022 17:44

start a community garden.

travel.

do a phd

twistyizzy · 04/11/2022 17:44

I think about this everyday so it is very easy: have a massive pack of spaniels in training and work them plus at least 6 horses: 2 of my own, 1 for DD and then 3 rescued ex-racers to rehabilitate and retrain.

Thighdentitycrisis · 04/11/2022 17:46

I think I’d like to try being a foster carer

Thighdentitycrisis · 04/11/2022 17:46

Or have a therapy dog

WeAreTheHeroes · 04/11/2022 17:49

The way I'm feeling at the moment, mostly sleeping.

You pretty much need to be a millionaire to own a yard nowadays, there is pretty much zero profit in it. Nothing stopping you working through your BHS Stages in Care + Riding in the meantime 😊most BHS approved riding schools will offer training in at least Stage 1.
