If you didn't have to work for money, what would you do?

If money was no object what would you do instead of work? I'll go first- I would love to be a potter and an author (no experience of either but a girl can dream!)

I think lockdown taught many of us that all those plans to write a novel / reskill / take up an arty craft / train for a marathon / start a new business / volunteer for charity if only we had more time are not, in fact, impeded by lack of time.

OhamIreally · 27/10/2022 10:43

Rescue lots of cats and be a mad cat lady.

Is this an if I won the lottery thing ?

i would take the rest of the term off to enjoy my windfall , buy houses , lunches out , shopping, holidays ect.

then come January I would go back to my work , in a volunteer role for maybe 1/2 days a week and listen to readers and cover playtimes so other staff can have a drink and a wee x

It's just a fantasising about what you would actually love to do with your life if work wasn't in the way thing...

I don't hate my job but it doesn't make my heart sing. I do it because needs must. If I didn't have to work I would be able to explore the things that truly make me happy or explore things that might make me happy.

I'd buy a wonderful place in the country and potter about there.
Then I'd buy a beautiful mews in Chelsea and potter about there.
I would do lots of crafts and learn new skills under the guidance of a hot tutor.
Go on lots of holidays, eat at fantastic restaurants, Chuck money at worthy charities but not do any of the work. I think I'm done with work!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 27/10/2022 22:11

Travel, spend time with friends, read, cook, go to the theatre, shows, exhibitions etc. I think I'd find enough to keep me busy and have a fulfilling life!

MrMrsJones · 27/10/2022 22:14

Have a small holding with chickens, ducks and whippets

MayFlower22 · 27/10/2022 22:16

I don't so I home educate and look after my baby and toddler , and the usual housework. I also volunteer as a benefits advisor.

pastypirate · 27/10/2022 22:17

Do the window displays in a chazza. Not for any worthy reason I would just love it. Actually work in a chazza full stop. I know I could volunteer but I can't I don't have time.

FlirtyMelons · 27/10/2022 22:17

Party plannin

woohoowoohoo · 27/10/2022 22:20

Do what I do now without the inconvenience of work getting in the way!

If it was the same income as now but just without the work I'd spend more time making my home and garden nice, reading, watching Netflix, walking the dog and spending time with friends and family, I'd also travel but it'd wouldn't be as often as I'd like 😂
If it was with as much money as I want then there'd be lots of traveling and lots more animals 😁

And this is what I do now, constrained by having to reply to work emails !

Startuplife · 27/10/2022 22:22

I used to think I’d always need to work no matter how much money I had but as I get older I’m much more inclined to relax so I don’t think I’d work.
I have a relative who has a very wealthy husband and she seems to spend her time doing different courses. Languages, learning to do nails, bake, floristry etc. That could be a nice way to spend my time.

whiteroseredrose · 27/10/2022 22:22

Exotic travel while still fit enough. Then more local travel to study family history. Might do a wild animal rescue course and volunteer.

JorisBonson · 27/10/2022 22:23

I'd rescue and rehome cats. And maybe keep a few for myself.

Merlott · 27/10/2022 22:25

I'd love to own a coffee shop. Put some books in it like we used to have back in the 90s/2000s.

I'd consult in my current area of paid employment, for free to charities who wouldn't normally be able to pay for the service.

ijustcouldntthinkofausername · 27/10/2022 22:26

I would be a SAHM and actually spend time with my 19mo DS rather than wake up, feed and dress him, go to work then come back feed and bathe him and put him to bed ☹️

midlifecrash · 27/10/2022 22:27

Nothing. Absolutely fuck all for about six months, except maybe get my knees sorted (knackered from crap office chair) and spend lots and lots of time all by myself, possibly re- reading Agatha Christie if I can be arsed. I’m worn out and menopausal and I dream about this…

Lcb123 · 27/10/2022 22:28

somerhing wine related- maybe running the tours at a vineyard!

weegiemum · 27/10/2022 22:29

I don't have to work to live, my dh is a doctor and financially we're fine. I used to be a teacher but a neurological disability means I just can't cope with that any more.

I'm retraining as a counsellor as it's something I've been interested in for a long time. I might well work in the end on a voluntary basis, but I will have useful skills again!

justanothermummma · 27/10/2022 22:32

I'd own an interiors shop and offer interior design services.

RaininSummer · 27/10/2022 22:36

An artist and general creative type, dabble in writing to see if I have any actual talent, run workshops for crafty stuff, volunteer somewhere.

BMW6 · 27/10/2022 22:36

I took early retirement 15 years ago aged 50. Apart from walking the dog and working on my allotment you'd be surprised how little I do yet the day flies by!

Reading, pottering around..........utter 😊

WanderingDreamingSpires · 27/10/2022 22:39

Become a family lawyer and help abused women and their children become free of their worthless men.
But also travel and actually make my allotment look decent!

forevercooking · 27/10/2022 22:56

Have lots more babies 😂
