Just wondering what spooky little visitors to your house get?

Nothing. I'm in Scotland not America or Canada.

Guisers get a choice of sweeties for performing their party piece.

PinkHeadphones · 26/10/2022 21:38

A sweet from a tub of Heroes or Celebrations with some chews and lollies mixed in.

bubblepond · 26/10/2022 21:38

A little bag of haribo or mini cadburys bar (snack size). I’ve bought in 120 “treats” this year, we get around that amount and have run out in previous years!

Mini Haribo, small choc bars. I think it’s lovely for the kids so happy to treat them

Clevererthanyou · 26/10/2022 21:40

@BettyOBarley I'm sorry you're being mithered, that's utterly shit. You'd love it where I live, unless a house is visibly decorated AND lit up for Halloween, we stay away and everyone follows this rule. Nobody gets bothered that doesn't want to participate this way.

Clevererthanyou · 26/10/2022 21:42

@OrangePomander omgosh, I'm baking for the kids that I know too! Can't decide between pumpkin cookies, meringue ghouls or both 😋

Does any get actual trick or treaters? I mean is doing a trick a thing, don't they just expect some sweets

The shops are overrun with bags of sweets for Halloween at the moment.

In Scotland we call it guising and the kids all have a little act a joke normally. I've seen kids dance, juggle as well though. Its quite cute.

WellDunHun · 26/10/2022 21:43

I give a mix of chocolate and sweets. We don't get many now. In our old house we ran out one year and had to give out bags of crisps, prawn cocktail at that 🤢 a trick not a treat IMO.

Mythreefavouritethings · 26/10/2022 21:45

I usually get a jar from one of the supermarkets on the morning - never run out yet and we enjoy the leftover ones before switching to the Christmas assortment box 😂

Mythreefavouritethings · 26/10/2022 21:46

Sorry, meant jar of sweets!

Meringue ghouls sound amazing!

popandchoc · 26/10/2022 21:46

We usually end up with loads left as we are out trick or treating ourselves but i have in some m& s jelly halloween sweets, mini bags of maltesers and some other mini choc bars.

erikbloodaxe · 26/10/2022 21:48

Nothing, no children live in or venture down our road. It's great!

AmberGer · 26/10/2022 21:49

I bought skittles and treat size mixed Cadbury bars today. I bought 3 bags of each and I bet they'll be none left, we get tons of kids round here.
I usually just buy whatever is on offer.
The only year we didn't get any trick or treaters was 2020.

TabithaTittlemouse · 26/10/2022 21:52

Nothing. We’ve never had one because we are out in the sticks.
If the door went on Halloween night I would probably call the police. 😂

Thesearmsofmine · 26/10/2022 21:52

We don’t get any, I wish we did but it’s not done here!

hiredandsqueak · 26/10/2022 21:57

Nothing, put a sign on the door blaming snappy dog technically not true, she barks like crazy and I can't be bothered with it so an embellishment on the truth to keep them away

thaegumathteth · 26/10/2022 21:58

We get A LOT of guisers here. We've got 25 sweetie cones and 50+ lollies to hand out

Malfi · 26/10/2022 21:59

Nothing. We don’t get trick or treaters. I’m in a busy area, but people only do trick or treating to people they know. You would never go to a stranger’s house.

LoveLarry · 26/10/2022 22:00

Guisers get leftovers from unwanted June birthday sweets

And "tricker treaters". I see what you did there OP

DappledThings · 26/10/2022 21:07

Never had one round. If I did I'd maybe be able to offer them a Babybel or a toddler cereal bar.

One came to our house once in the 1990s. They got a gentle question from my dad about whether they could explain the liturgical significance of All Hallows Eve. Nobody ever came back funnily enough.

Wow, he sounds like a total dick.

We buy a few bags of fun size chocolate bars and multipack sweets, and just give a few each. We don’t get as many now as we used to though, we always end up finishing them off over the next week!

MrsCarson · 26/10/2022 22:07

This years selection is Chocolate buttons and mini mars bars. So if we are left with stuff we will want to eat it.

ASmallCat · 26/10/2022 22:18

Possibly nowt this year at the rate I’m currently inhaling them

LOL. Not in the least. It was utterly random round our way at that time for anyone to be trick or treating. Never knew anyone do it, never saw it. A couple of kids were being total chancers so he asked them if they knew why they were there. Pretty sure if they'd managed a vaguely sensible answer he might've rustled up a fair trade carob and nut bar from the cupboard.

Might manage an Alpen number myself these days if for the first time anyone came round. Would still find it odd though.

Unseelie · 26/10/2022 22:18

Only had them once. That was the year I did not know ‘candle in pumpkin out front’ means please knock on my door. I just thought it would be a fun seasonal decoration. Had to give them my own very nice chocolates!
