Do you think you'll get a holiday next year?

DH and I have had a lot going on the past number of years and were due to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary back in 2018 but had to cancel due to a major issue (not going into details) we always said we'd make up for it for our 15th which just happens to be next year but now with the costs of everything i very much doubt we will be able to afford a summer holiday next year either.

Are you booking a holiday or waiting to see what happens

I'm booking. Only for a week in May and just me and DP, but definitely abroad.

wonderstuff · 26/10/2022 16:23

We’ve booked a holiday for February, we decided to book 5 nights rather than 7 we initially planned to keep the cost down. I expect we’ll do something in the summer as well, but it may be caravan in France rather than anything exotic.

Ive got some savings and am inclined to spend a chunk before inflation devalues them any further.

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 26/10/2022 16:24

Yeah for sure .may half term next year , Andalusia maybe haven’t ,decided yet

wearethetiny · 26/10/2022 16:25

How exciting, I really hope we are able to get away. I would love an all inclusive with the kids but also torn about a little long weekend trip, just us, to a nice city.

Also need a load of stuff done to the house so maybe I'd be better buying a £1000 of lotto tickets instead lol

Yes we recently booked 17 nights in Greece next Jul/Aug. That will be our main holiday but still need to look at other breaks.

Asher33 · 26/10/2022 16:26

Usually go away over the summer. (There's a 2 day firework display and I hate fireworks so go away on those days) But haven't decided where yet.

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 26/10/2022 16:26

I decided to book as we can afford it now and I thought there was a good chance inflation would make it dearer if we waited. So it seemed sensible to lock in a summer 2022 price.

UserError012345 · 26/10/2022 16:27

Very unlikely. Any money I'd be able to save will go on increased energy costs etc etc

Funkyslippers · 26/10/2022 16:27

Oh definitely. Maybe abroad, maybe not. Have no clue what sort of holiday as my 2 DDs want different things and it's my 50th next July 😊

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 26/10/2022 16:28

How would you usually think to pay for a holiday OP, do you tend to pay all the costs close to the time or are you a monthly payment kind of person?

wearethetiny · 26/10/2022 16:31

@PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior it would depend on cost to be honest. We would probably like to pay monthly if it was somewhere nice and a bit more expensive but for example if we got a 'cheapy' for just us last min we'd just pay it.

I'm trying to decide if we should try to get a wee break in June before kids finish school so that parents could mind them and it would also work out cheaper for us by not bringing them and going term time. Is this really selfish though?

Are the kids old enough to feel they would miss out?

wearethetiny · 26/10/2022 16:39

@PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior I don't honestly think they would mind but I guess it's hard to know. We've never both been away for more than a night or two. In some ways I would like the idea to be carefree for a few days maybe enjoy too many cocktails and have some us time that as parents you don't get. But then a family holiday would be nice too. It really is a cost thing.

We’ve booked 2 abroad holidays and 2 UK mini breaks so far. I need things to look forward to!

XAQ · 26/10/2022 16:41

I think its important that parents occasionally get a holiday away from children.

I've got 2 holidays booked for next year, a week and two weeks abroad.

No kids but mine are all 20 plus.

Newtrix · 26/10/2022 16:42

We have a lodge for a week on the Yorkshire coast and a week in the Lakes, again in a lodge. Not fans of flying.

AriettyHomily · 26/10/2022 16:43

Booked two week family holiday abroad when we came back this summer, at least the price is locked in. Also have a couple of breaks with girlfriends for 3 nights, also booked.

OldTinHat · 26/10/2022 16:43

I went on my first holiday in 8yrs last week and have already booked for next year - I enjoyed it so much! £250, half board coach trip for a week with all travel and excursions, same as last week, just excellent!

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 26/10/2022 16:43

The other option is somewhere with a kids club, so you could have a mixture of family time and a break.

green82 · 26/10/2022 16:44

Next year is fine because we save a year in advance. 2024 could be affected depending on what happens with energy prices, we'll still go on holiday but may be a smaller budget.

Mentalpiece · 26/10/2022 16:45

Not booked as such as we have an apartment in Turkey so we go there often, either both of us or just myself.

popandchoc · 26/10/2022 16:45

Yes have booked, haven't been abroad since 2019 and saved the money up during lockdowns.

JorisBonson · 26/10/2022 16:47

I've already booked 5 nights away for DH's 40th and paid for half of it.

Supposed to be doing a tour around northern France as going to a RWC game in Lille, but that may turn into a 1 / 2 nighter now.

Choconut · 26/10/2022 16:48

Yes booked a few already, booked cheap easyjet flights as soon as they were released and fab but cheap airbnb's for our time there. Will get around using local transport and have places with a kitchen so can make some of our own meals.

Doublevision5 · 26/10/2022 16:49

We're not, but only because we're getting married in 2024 and are saving for that and the honeymoon 😁
