Do you think you'll get a holiday next year?

DH and I have had a lot going on the past number of years and were due to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary back in 2018 but had to cancel due to a major issue (not going into details) we always said we'd make up for it for our 15th which just happens to be next year but now with the costs of everything i very much doubt we will be able to afford a summer holiday next year either.

Are you booking a holiday or waiting to see what happens

Yes but only because we had to postpone one from this year as I was seriously ill in hospital for a great chunk of the year. The sensible thing would just be to right it off but it is mostly paid for and frankly I'm just glad to be alive. We are going to enjoy this holiday. Then probably not be able to afford another or heating, hot water or electricity for another couple of years.

AnApparitionQuipped · 26/10/2022 17:59

To be honest, no. We only ever have an annual week in a caravan but everything adds up so much - fuel, and things like eating out (which we want to do to make the most of our holiday and we rarely eat out or have takeaways at home), and fees for the cattery. I'm thinking next year it might be better to just do day trips and possibly an overnight somewhere in a B&B not too far away.

FlowerBrooch · 26/10/2022 17:59

We have always booked quite last minute mainly because of DH PITA job.
We will have a holiday unsure if overseas or UK it will depend on what is available.

Startuplife · 26/10/2022 18:01

Yes we have a close friend’s wedding abroad so will go to that and then fly to another country for our “summer holiday”.
Return flights were booked using Avios and a companion voucher so it’s only cost me £4 so far. I’ll start looking for hotels in January I expect.

WhatWouldHopperDo · 26/10/2022 18:05

We will but only because DHs Mum passed away and he is due some money from her estate. Sorry if that sounds callous. I miss my MIL terribly but she would be happy that we are able to go away.

Hooverphobe · 26/10/2022 18:06

Yes, we’re going away for 2 week’s AI. I booked in May this year and it’s 50% paid off already.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 26/10/2022 18:12

We have a week in Turkey booked for August next year.

Probably go to Spain for a long weekend in February to escape the cold for a few days.

Sunshinealwaysfollowstherainstorm · 26/10/2022 18:16

It's our 15th wedding anniversary next year too but next year is hectic for us. We have 4 weddings to go too. Dh is best man at 2 and usher at another. 4 stag weekends, plus dh turns 40 so have booked a hall for his party.
We are also midway through landscaping our garden so our savings are going into that.
If we do manage to squeeze in a holiday, it will be last minute abroad or somewhere in this country. We are going to see how far we have got with the garden by the time the first wedding comes around in the spring and go from there.

gogohmm · 26/10/2022 18:21

Yes but I'm not booking yet, one trip is staying with family (not cheap due to transport but no need to prebook far ahead) and the other trip we'll bide our time to see if prices drop

DH has recently been paralysed. I have not a clue what holiday we will be booking, and where (most likely UK), but we absolutely will be having a holiday next year. The kids will be with us. Just surviving each day at the moment, and can't think that far ahead.

I'm sorry to hear that, wishing you all strength at this time.

May not be your thing, but if you are into activity holidays there is the Calvert Trust.

WhiteFire · 26/10/2022 18:22

We have next year's holiday booked. A week on the E.Yorkshire coast.

ancientgran · 26/10/2022 18:23

Not expecting a holiday. This year we had one night in a nice hotel but DH (disabled) wasn't well after the drive so we spent the evening in the room and instead of a nice day out the next day we went home after breakfast.

Doesn't seem worth the effort.

kitcat15 · 26/10/2022 18:25

Going to Perth Australia for 6 weeks to visit family next year

Ah no thats really nice...bet she would be glad to see you using any money for a holiday

maddiemookins16mum · 26/10/2022 18:28

We’re going to leave it until 2 weeks before and see what deals there are. A colleague of mine did that this year, ended up with 10 nights in a great hotel in Corfu mid September for £279 per person.

HairyToity · 26/10/2022 18:28

@WhiteFire thank you. I haeve saved details of Calvert Trust and will look into it for next year.

No499 · 26/10/2022 18:29

Yep, a month in Australia and probably a couple of long weekends

Yerroblemom1923 · 26/10/2022 18:34

Don't need to book anything. Family in Cornwall so we go there a few times each year anyway. If finances allow might go for a holiday abroad to Barcelona - lovely city - and dd doesn't remember being on a plane!

Yerroblemom1923 · 26/10/2022 18:35

We also factor in a local festival weekend with friends too. Kids same age so ticks all the boxes.

mac1974 · 26/10/2022 18:53

We are doing a week in the New Forest in may which I'm really looking forward to hopefully a trip to France for 2 weeks in august.

Parmesam · 26/10/2022 18:57

Maybe. A tour of Japan has been talked about.

balalake · 26/10/2022 18:58

I have relatives who live outside the UK who I plan to visit. Might be my sole holiday though it will be a pleasure to see them after four years.

Petronus · 26/10/2022 19:08

We are going for a week in August, but have scaled back plans to a relatively basic uk apartment rental. Still looking forward to it. May manage a night at a premier inn around Easter. Dh and Ds are camping at a music festival too. It all adds up and everything is so so expensive at the moment.

IsAnybody · 26/10/2022 19:12

We will visit my DM in Spain for 10 days in June, then go all inclusive for 10 days October in the canaries.

BeanCounterBabe · 26/10/2022 19:41

We are planning Paris/DLP 5 nights self catering and a Northern Europe driving trip. Camping in the UK at some point as well. Love getting away with the family. Doesn’t need to be luxury.
