Do you think you'll get a holiday next year?

DH and I have had a lot going on the past number of years and were due to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary back in 2018 but had to cancel due to a major issue (not going into details) we always said we'd make up for it for our 15th which just happens to be next year but now with the costs of everything i very much doubt we will be able to afford a summer holiday next year either.

Are you booking a holiday or waiting to see what happens

It really is so lovely to have something to look forward too. I love all the run up to a holiday- getting things organised and preparing stuff. It's all so exciting.

Makes me so angry that we might lose out because prices become too ridiculous, if not on holidays themselves, then because any disposable money we have will be used on utilities 😏

Yes booked two weeks in ab Airbnb in a European country I’ve never visited before which is quite exciting! And a week visiting family in another country. For the last few years we’ve done the week with family plus some U.K. breaks so looking forward to a proper foreign holiday.

grayhairdontcare · 26/10/2022 16:53

We've booked Greece for 10 nights in September.
Because we've booked it , we will make sure we save for it.

Newcatbrowntail · 26/10/2022 16:56

I’m booking abroad next year, I’m fed up with being rinsed by British holiday rentals. I expect a holiday in Italy will be cheaper than Cornwall

wearethetiny · 26/10/2022 17:00

Maybe it really is best to book something and just make it happen!

Where would be nice for a 15th anniversary around June time? Any recommendations very welcome 🤗

No chance.

Last time we had a holiday of any sort was 2014.

I can’t see a time when we will ever be able to afford anywhere, not even a night in a travelodge down the road!

CrazySchoolTimes · 26/10/2022 17:03

We haven't booked yet but if we do go
somewhere it will be either to DP's or PIL's so not really a holiday

LeafHunter · 26/10/2022 17:08

Booking, but we always do Airbnb and cheap flights so it’s manageable.

Ellnet · 26/10/2022 17:17

We’ve booked Barcelona in April to see Bruce Springsteen and have a 5 day break, Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam for next summer. We were looking at New York for near the end of next year but the prices are outrageous and we’d rather have a week in the sun for half the price.

Kimya · 26/10/2022 17:21

We've already booked because I wanted to make sure we got a free child place for DD.

vinoandbrie · 26/10/2022 17:27

We’ve booked a week in Cornwall for next summer. Paid 1/3 deposit to spread the cost, with the balance due in May. I was concerned with inflation that if we didn’t book when we did (a couple of months ago) and left it until the New Year, then prices would go even higher!

green82 · 26/10/2022 17:27

@Ellnet better off booking NY last minute. You can get direct flights and the Hilton for under £500pp but usually booking 1-3 months before, I'm hoping to go again next year and have seen lots of cheap deals now for November onwards for this year.

HairyToity · 26/10/2022 17:31

DH has recently been paralysed. I have not a clue what holiday we will be booking, and where (most likely UK), but we absolutely will be having a holiday next year. The kids will be with us. Just surviving each day at the moment, and can't think that far ahead.

Bluevelvetsofa · 26/10/2022 17:32

We’d promised ourselves a good holiday for various birthdays/ anniversaries. I fancied a river cruise, or something a bit out of the ordinary. Every time we think we might, the prices are out of range, or there was lockdown, or illness.

Out of the question now.

Alarae · 26/10/2022 17:36

I don't think I'll end up booking anything with DH (we did move a weekend break from this year to 2023) but I have booked a week away with my sister in May to Spain with our two children (3 and 4).

Flight costs are only going up so I'm glad I booked already.

MochaHoldTheMilkAndCoffee · 26/10/2022 17:41

We usually book our main holidays in advance so we have something to look forward to.
We have 2 x 10 days holidays abroad and DP has a few trips to France for the Rugby World Cup.
We'll probably have a week away in the UK with DC and then a long weekend away in Europe without the kids but we'll book that once DC2 is born and we know what we're dealing with (due in 5 weeks).

happyfishcoco · 26/10/2022 17:44

not booked yet, but, a holiday is a must-have for next year!!!!
as I have not get a plane for 5 years!

happyfishcoco · 26/10/2022 17:44

get on*

Holidayexpert · 26/10/2022 17:44

Yes, we have a few booked for next year. Going away for a week soon.

Cakeybake · 26/10/2022 17:47

We've booked a week in a European airbnb and paid the deposit which is about 60% of the cost. Planning to drive as its the flights for us as a family that make it very expensive (in school holidays). We're also going with another family which means we split the cost of the villa and the kids have on site entertainment!

I’ve seen the demographics on river cruises.

I’m still 20 years too young (and I’m celebrating my 29th wedding anniversary).

MintJulia · 26/10/2022 17:48

No. DS has a biology field trip and a Germany GCSE trip that I need to pay for.

So it'll be me and my sun lounger in the back garden again. 😀

Bbq1 · 26/10/2022 17:48

We've already booked. 10 days in LA for me, dh and ds. It's always been a dream destination for dh and ds especially. I'm 50 next year and ds 18 so it's partly down to that and partly because although we have had fantastic UK holidays we haven't been abroad for 18 years! We are very lucky as my lovely mum offered to contribute towards the cost. We feel very fortunate and are all very excited!

If you were happy to leave the DCs with grandparents for a few days, what kind of thing do you like doing? City break? Activity stuff? Relaxing break?

crackofdoom · 26/10/2022 17:58

Oh, we have holidays all the time, whenever we fancy (she said airily), and I'm a single mum on a low income. Because we camp. What is this all inclusive you speak of?? 😆

If I'm feeling flush I'm hoping to take the kids Interrailing at Easter though.
