Why is Sunak entering no 10 without his family supporting him?

Genuine question or maybe they want to stay completely out of the limelight? Feel a tad sorry for him, he looks so excited:(

He doesn't need them there, and he certainly didn't look unhappy to me.

Perhaps they are not planning on moving back to Downing Street as a family again? They don't have to. Rishi can still use the "flat above the shop" when he really needs to, and not moving back will maybe help keep the children out of the public eye as much as possible.

I don't see it as an issue.

I saw it and actually liked it.

It’s his job. The country is in the shit. Presenting himself as though he is going to work, is the right thing. He also won’t want his wife being a focus. The whole ‘he is too rich to care/think/understand about the struggles of everyone else is only highlighted with his extremely rich wife stood next to him. And I am sure she is busy too. I am guessing we won’t see much of her tbh.

I actually think it’s always been weird how the families are treated as though they are doing the job too. It should be treated like any other job.

I always think the photos of the wives as summits are cringy. Which wife met which wife and who wore what. It’s really outdated.

Totally agree. Having been in a similar role as a wife I absolutely loathed
being in that situation. It’s time moved on .

Yes it is. Also really sexist as they don’t do it to the husbands

BananaBlue · 25/10/2022 16:28

@rutland what’s your definition of woke?

Being against inequality and discrimination?

If so you can add me to your bench of ‘woke wankers’, ta.

I saw the 90 day as referring to the non Dom scandal, but clearly it’s being used to denigrate the family?

Really? 2 kids had more important things on than being there with their Dad as he becomes PM?

Their mum is richer than the monarch apparently. I don't think their dad is the powerhouse of the family TBH.

Cantstandbullshit · 25/10/2022 16:36

Saucery · 25/10/2022 12:28

Because they don’t want to be part of the media circus?
Because his wife is her own woman and doesn’t need to hang off the arm of her husband’s job?
Because this isn’t the US and we don’t have a ‘First Lady’?

And yet the wives of many previous PMs have been visible, not just wives but girlfriends before turning to wife in Carrie’s case.

antelopevalley · 25/10/2022 16:37

Since he has been more than happy to wheel out his family for photo ops it does look strange. Maybe him and his wife have had a row?

Croque · 25/10/2022 16:40

She is probably keeping a low profile because of the negative press.

He’s earned a LOT of money working in financial services before he became a politician.

I understand the 10 Downing street flat s pretty cramped .Some prime ministers like Blair and i think Harold wilson didnt live there.

I’ve been reading up about both of them, their families both come from humble beginnings (Rishi used to be a waiter?)

Rishi went to a school charges fees of £35K to £45K a year, how is that humble beginnings? Seriously doubt he then chose to go into waiting as a full-time career choice from there, maybe as a holiday job?

This is similar to the Middletons who supposedly were rags to riches but all three children attended some of the UKs most expensive schools & top unis.. They were very privileged with driven, ambitious parents from the word go. Like Rishi & Akshanta Sunak..

I think its great if he went in on his own. The spouse of the PM has no constitutional importance.

AnyFucker · 25/10/2022 20:12

He did the right thing

Twawmyarse · 25/10/2022 20:13

PAFMO · 25/10/2022 14:17

Because he doesn't want us to remember he's married to a tax dodging billionaire?

He isn’t though. Everything she’s done is perfectly legal - plus she pays shitloads of tax already to this country.

Would you pay more tax out if your hard earned money than you had to? If not, why not? I’m sure you could afford to pay a few more quid?..

Twawmyarse · 25/10/2022 20:22

WahineToa · 25/10/2022 14:48

I've heard it all now. Feeling sorry for an extremely powerful multimillionaire

How much money does someone have to have before you dehumanise them and lack any empathy for any life experience that might be difficult? Honestly, this kind of mentality is fucked up.

Yep. The “let’s all hate him coz he’s rich” gang are out in force now. It’s nauseating. It just smacks of people who are really bitter and unhappy with their own lives. I would never just loathe someone bc they’re rich - I’m sure his family have had to work hard to get where they are? And so what if he went to private school? Don’t you think most of the labour lot did too? Keir Starmer went to Reigate and then Oxford. Do you really want someone who did woodwork and media studies at Skegness Comp running the country? (No offence to Skeggy!)

DonnaDonna0 · 25/10/2022 20:23

She paid her taxes in India? Good for her but she didn’t for her businesses in the UK - £789,000 owed to HMRC wasn’t it in total. £635,000 of furlough money into another company that then promptly closed. Not to mention another business that received from the “future fund” 1.3 million and then again went bankrupt owing over 16 million.
I can clearly see why she isn’t dancing into No 10 right now with her newly instated PM husband 😂

WahineToa · 25/10/2022 20:25

@DonnaDonna0 are you saying she has unpaid debt to HMRC?

MarshaMelrose · 25/10/2022 20:27

His father was an nhs gp and his mother pharmacist. That doesn't sound like a particularly privileged background.

cantheydothisreally · 25/10/2022 20:28

I think his family were celebrating half term in one of their four houses

Perhaps they are using their new pool, they need to get their moneys worth at £14k per year

DonnaDonna0 · 25/10/2022 20:29

@WahineToa thats what was reported in May of this year.

Wishyfishy · 25/10/2022 20:29

However I think those who are setting the standards & benchmarks for education should lead by example & put their kids in a dtate school & bring all dchools up to the standard of Wycombe Abbey..

See I understand the sentiment behind this, and you hear it a lot, but it’s quite clearly impossible? Money is one (fairly small) part of it. The biggest part is that these schools are selective - so they are picking the top say 5%-10% of children who take their exams (which are self-selecting anyway as less children simply won’t be put forward in the first place etc etc) so of course they will absolute academic hotbeds. They won’t have disruptive or difficult children to teach at all - they just wouldn’t be admitted.

A state school on a state school’s budget would be a different place overnight if the school was suddenly made up of only those children on track for good grades and if all children were interviewed before admittance. IMO, that’s the main difference.

cantheydothisreally · 25/10/2022 20:30

He attended Winchester College

Oxford

Stanford

Not exactly your average man

He has more money than the new Monarch

flowerycurtain · 25/10/2022 20:30

I really dislike all the hate for being wealthy.
His family seemed to work very very hard to send their children to those schools. The children worked all the way through their A-levels at weekends in the pharmacy if the article I read this morning is correct. That would have a lot of MN'ers frothing these days as "children need their downtime".

WahineToa · 25/10/2022 20:32

thats what was reported in May of this year.
That is was overdue? Tax due for this year? I hadn’t read she had unpaid debt anywhere.
