Genuine question or maybe they want to stay completely out of the limelight? Feel a tad sorry for him, he looks so excited:(

I've heard it all now. Feeling sorry for an extremely powerful multimillionaire

How much money does someone have to have before you dehumanise them and lack any empathy for any life experience that might be difficult? Honestly, this kind of mentality is fucked up.

EmmaH2022 · 25/10/2022 14:49

If I were PM, I would do this.

looks way better IMHO.

I think he probably wants to protect his family though.

WahineToa · 25/10/2022 14:53

@Rutland2022 you weren’t just talking about his wife, you were also talking about his children and their residency status, which you erroneously think means they have to return to India every 3 months. They don’t.

Bunnycat101 · 25/10/2022 14:54

I think it’s more sensible for the children not to be there. I was surprised Liz Truss’s kids were there for the leaving speech. No doubt there would have been threads about what they were wearing, how they behaved etc.

I agree. I hear this attitude so much and think the reverse snobbery is just as bad as snobbery.

PiffleWiffleWoozle · 25/10/2022 15:02

I’ve been reading up about both of them, their families both come from humble beginnings (Rishi used to be a waiter?)

Rishi went to a school charges fees of £35K to £45K a year, how is that humble beginnings? Seriously doubt he then chose to go into waiting as a full-time career choice from there, maybe as a holiday job?

megletthesecond · 25/10/2022 15:06

Maybe they're In their place in California.

onlywishfulthinking · 25/10/2022 15:10

My dh & children didn’t come with me to support me first day when I got a new job. Should I be annoyed at them?

@Rutland2022 - that made me laugh out loud! You’re probably right 😀

TabithaTittlemouse · 25/10/2022 15:16

I hate the tories but I think this was a good move.

TabithaTittlemouse · 25/10/2022 15:16

Isn’t it sad though that they are so ridiculous that even this feels positive.

BlueRidge · 25/10/2022 15:17

Can't bear all this hand-holding for public figures. He's starting what is arguably one of the most challenging jobs in the country, not going on a date with his wife.
Why does he need his family to "support" him? As others have said, he's a grown-up. He can deliver his speech and walk through a door on his own, surely?

Didn't take long for the racist comments to start

How is that racist? It's the truth.

Would have applied to any tax dodger whatever their race, colour or creed.

When you said 'they've probably used up their 90 days and are offshore now' who were the 'they' you were referring to if it didn't include the kids?

Also where does this 90 day nonsense come from?

BananaBlue · 25/10/2022 15:27

BJ didn’t have (all) his family for support, I didn’t watch LT but I didn’t think she had her children with her either?

Personally I suspect RS wife will keep a low profile due to tax issue.

BananaBlue · 25/10/2022 15:28

@ExpulsoCorona I took it to refer to the Green Card & nondom issues tbh.

He worked in the Kuti's Brasserie in Southampton. It's a family friend's business. It's reported in the local papers he also has worked in his mum's pharmacy. He's never from humble beginnings. His parents moved into their big 6 bedroom house when the first two kids were young. (I think Rishi is the third)? The parents' used to live in Portswood, Southampton before the 6 bedroom house. Rightmove says the average house price was £385,000 for a semi. It a nice but more normal neighbourhood but Rishi never lived there.

Based on the last PM it is hardly worthwhile getting the movers in.

I still don't understand the comment or the subsequent ones. It sounded like she was joking that 'they're' not allowed to be in this country for longer than 90 days at a time which is nonsense. Then she said that she wasn't referring to the kids when she said they, presumably just referring to Akshata? Then why say 'they'? Then she starts talking about not being racist because she is 'ethically' Jewish. What is 'Ethically Jewish' and what has that got to do with this thread?

WahineToa · 25/10/2022 16:03

I’m ethically Jewish

that doesn’t exclude or exempt you when you say racist things. You implied they need to leave the country every 90 days because they don’t have residency. You know that isn’t true. They’re his children. You are a racist. I’m not anti semitic because I’ve not said anti semitic things. Arguing with someone who happens to be Jewish, doesn’t make you racist. But you know this. What you said was wrong. I knew it would start on here as soon as it was obvious he’d be PM, it’s started in the Labour Party too. Hopefully they’re not as slow to withdraw the whip from her as they were with all the anti semitic members and MPs.

BananaBlue · 25/10/2022 16:12

I thought non doms couldn’t stay in the U.K. for more than 90 days at a time?

there’s something here about it assets.kpmg/content/dam/kpmg/pdf/2016/01/statutory-residence-test-flowchart.pdf

having seen further comments, maybe I didn’t read enough into the comments.

WahineToa · 25/10/2022 16:18
