Mine has got to be anything food related - particularly meal planning, shopping and cooking. I despise it! I'm a good cook but my god do I hate it. Unfortunately DH also hates it as well and I find splitting it very difficult - if DH plans I have no idea what recipe he's using (I have all my recipes in my head) and if I plan, I also have to shop and then DH has no idea how to cook it unless I write it down or use a recipe book to plan and shop, which takes even longer!

All other jobs I'm fairly happy to do and get a sense of satisfaction from. But not the food shopping 🙄

What is yours and why? And any tips for making it more bearable?

@alwayscheery I like to listen to itsblitzzz or JadeyWadey180 on YouTube. But asmr is very personal so it worth having a look at lots of different people to find one you enjoy.

Thank you . What do the initials stand for ?

Watchthesunrise · 24/10/2022 08:26

Emptying the dishwasher. Repetitive, involves bending and no satisfaction.

jtaeapa · 24/10/2022 08:31

Me and dh are fine with most things but like you, cooking is a real pain. We do hello fresh so it means that between me, him and one of our teens, we can usually get a nice meal on the table with almost no planning/shopping, just clicking the meals we want to order. However I will say that they deliver mank or leaking ingredients sometimes so you have to be prepared to nip to a shop. We have a shop nearby and i don’t mind picking up a couple of things.

Cutting the hair off the hoover brush roller thing!
We’re all hair shedders in this house, plus 2 fluffy cats! So it needs doing often. I find it such a gross job.
Cleaning the gas hob. It’s such a bloody faff. Planning to switch to an induction hob. I hear gas is better for cooking but I don’t care! I can’t wait to just be able to swipe a cloth over the hob and it’s done.

newnamethanks · 24/10/2022 08:35

The water here is full of chalk and anything water related has bloody chalk residue on it. Trying to keep kitchen, bathroom and loo free of marks and scale is a daily chore and I resent it a lot.

lucysmam · 24/10/2022 08:39

Hoovering. The. Stairs.

Cleaning the bathroom is a close second.

I don't mind washing up though, especially in winter, with a bowl of warm soapy water. & I enjoy cooking.

glamourousindierockandroll · 24/10/2022 08:46

Putting laundry away. Endlessly.

Cleaning blinds.

Vacuuming the stairs.

Cleaning the oven.

I do like cleaning the glass shower screen, mopping the floors, dusting and cleaning my kitchen sink with Pink Stuff.

Baldieheid · 24/10/2022 08:49

Vacuuming the stairs. Other bits are fine but I absolutely and irrationally hate doing the stairs.

LemonDrizzles · 24/10/2022 08:49

Laundry. Just because everyone is ungrateful!

Food I don't mind because of I get compliments, it seems worth the effort

Oh god, all of it. And then it all needs doing a agin. How on Earth do people keep up the momentum, clean houses?

I think our house stays in an OK state most of the time.

The tricks seem to be:

  • no kids
  • laminate floors that take 5m to clean
  • infrequent laundry/rewearing of clothes
MrsAlexander · 24/10/2022 08:51

Cleaning be wooden slat blinds. It's such a faff 🫠

glamourousindierockandroll · 24/10/2022 08:52

@alwayscheery it stands for autonomous sensory meridian response and it refers to the relaxing, tingly feeling you get from certain sounds or visual stimuli. It's correct that it's very personal to each person what relaxes them (e.g. roleplay videos about haircuts or customer service are popular, but I don't like them).

bluechameleon · 24/10/2022 08:56

Tidying. I am so rubbish at it. And we have far much stuff so there isn't actually a home for everything. I also hate washing floors.
I don't mind cleaning the bathroom that much, or hoovering, and I quite like folding laundry. It was better when there were babies though, I liked folding all the tiny clothes. I enjoy meal planning, doing the online Tesco shop and cooking.

somethingischasingme · 24/10/2022 08:59

I can't mop. I don't know why.

Lorrymum · 24/10/2022 09:12

Cleaning the grill after grilling bacon or sausages. I hate it with a passion and takes me ages.
After years of loathing ironing my elderly neighbour showed me how to avoid it. She hung clothes as soon as the machine had finished and when taking them down smoothed and folded before putting into washing basket. She also hung shirts and dresses on coat hangers before putting on her washing line. Twenty years later I no longer own an iron.

gillybean89 · 24/10/2022 09:17

I agree with all the PPs saying anything food related. The thinking/planning/shopping/carting in from the car/putting away/cooking. I detest the whole thing. I would gladly pay someone to do this.

I love hanging washing out and get excited when it's a 'good drying day'. But I think that's because I don't like having washing hanging all over the house and it's done then in a day.

TwoShades1 · 24/10/2022 09:20

@alwayscheery its autonomous sensory meridian response. I don’t get the sensation while listening to them while ironing I just find it relaxing.

Dachshund · 24/10/2022 09:24

I love food shopping and would happily spend hours wandering around a supermarket but as for bathrooms! If I could afford it I would pay a lot to never have to touch them again

parentlife321 · 24/10/2022 09:30

@RunningFromInsanity ill do your ironing...i LOVE ironing...but in return you have to hoover my house, as i hate hoovering 🤣🤣🤣

Arnaquer · 24/10/2022 09:40

Cleaning the oven.
Cleaning the windows.

Some says, ALL of it 😡
if I have to choose 1 thing it would be home-making. Not so much a daily grind, but a daily reminder, but making rooms look nice and not like we’ve just moved in - I have zero imagination or enthusiasm for it. I wish someone could come and make a list (with links) of each specific thing I should buy. Not “pictures” or “cushions” - THIS painting/print/wall arty thing/ THESE cushions etc.

Absolutely me. I feel like there's a manual out there somewhere on how to do it that I don't know about!

Changing the bin, cleaning the bin.
I hate the bin smell.

I actually like some aspects of cleaning, like hoovering, cleaning the kitchen, I even like putting food shopping away as it’s satisfying seeing a full fridge.

Jules912 · 24/10/2022 10:57

Taking the bins out, we have a fairly even split but that is always DH's job. I'm also a terrible cook so hate doing that, but not as much as the bins.
