The inevitable return of Mornington Crescent

1000 replies

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 22/10/2022 18:10

As winter approaches and the nights draw in, one’s thoughts naturally turn to wholesome, homely entertainment. Instead, though, I invite experienced players and novices alike to join me in a game of Mornington Crescent.

To keep the pace gentle, I’ll begin with an inverse Lepton to

Seven Sisters

OP posts:
Hexenjagd · 23/10/2022 11:22

Ooooh. Chalk Farm

been waiting for this

so
Using Entwistles inverse, I get Camden Town

and then a neat pincer to Euston — as a interchange obviously

Hexenjagd · 23/10/2022 11:22

Oh no. Typed too slow. Am I in Nidd?

TragicMuse · 23/10/2022 11:33

You would be in middle without Entwhistle, as it stands I think you're still in play Hexenjagd.

Chalk Farm, eh?

Chalk Farm Chalk Farm Chalk Farm

OH! Heathrow Terminal FIVE!

TragicMuse · 23/10/2022 11:34

DAMMIT! Now I'm in nidd.

TragicMuse · 23/10/2022 11:35

No, wait, Heathrow Terminal
five from Euston...?

I'm NOT in nidd. Repeat, NOT in nidd.

TragicMuse · 23/10/2022 11:37

But for new players, I should explain, that's only because of the Interchange. Ordinarily I would be in nidd.

But here, NOT in nidd.

Clear? Good!

Violettaa · 23/10/2022 11:50

I’ll get us all definitively out of nidd with a cross loop to London Bridge.

ShippingForecastMeditator · 23/10/2022 12:00

Room for a little one?

The beauty of this being an anonymous forum means that I can’t be blamed for what happened last time I played. I’m aware laws have since changed but Mumsnet users can be so… spiteful.

But just to be on the safe side I’ll go with

New Cross Gate

Pumpkintopf · 23/10/2022 12:03

Hmm. Well New Cross Gate offers the tantalising but terrifyingly controversial option of -

(I understand if some of you will want to rule this out of bounds but I believe I can cite precedent as it was played by the Archbishop in the 1997 open ie post closure, and permitted- however I accept it has resulted in a lengthy stay in Nidd several times since)

Aldwych

DuckonaBike · 23/10/2022 12:08

That’s a daring and controversial move Pumpkintopf, but I think you’re in the clear. There’s another precedent from the international quarter finals in 2003 if memory serves.

Knightsbridge

Juicyshoes · 23/10/2022 12:08

Ooh you saucy minxes! I drifted off to sleep (I blame the heady aroma of the Flight Lieutenant’s cologne). Far too early for any of your Chalk Farm nonsense otherwise we’ll only be here 24hours and what kind of tournament is that?! I salute the deft whip out to LB and NCG.

Only leaves Brondesbury.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 23/10/2022 12:09

Welcome, ShippingForecastMeditator. I’ll phrase this tactfully, but was it you who was expelled from the MN all-nighter of the game of games (held in the flat above the Texaco garage in Nuneaton) after that little contretemps with the celebrated tenor and the questionable obverse shuffle to Brixton? I’m glad to see your parole officer won the case for you.

Onwards to

Angel

OP posts:
Pumpkintopf · 23/10/2022 12:10

Ah indeed Duck although if I recall correctly I believe there was an allegation that the adjudicator on that occasion had been on the gin?

However with a sense of relief with the arrival at Angel I gratefully suggest

Bond Street

ShippingForecastMeditator · 23/10/2022 12:11

So my assumption about updated laws is correct.

Not something I’d have risked personally because despite all the years that’ve passed, THEY are still watching (probably).

I’ll help you out this time but won’t be doing it again.

Ravenscourt Park

ShippingForecastMeditator · 23/10/2022 12:15

@ComeIntoTheGardenMaud No not me. I did hear about that at the time though and wondered why people these days can’t think up their own crimes, instead of copying someone else’s.

Feeling stressed now so I’m going to have to throw in a

Kenton

DuckonaBike · 23/10/2022 12:17

If they had been on the gin, Pumpkintopf then we can only be grateful it was nothing stronger. Do you remember Bogotá in 1989?

I have never been to Nuneaton, though of course I have heard the stories (who hasn’t?) In case Shipping is correct, I’m playing it safe with Holborn.

Juicyshoes · 23/10/2022 12:22

There’s always room for improvement in all things Shipping…

And the gin in Bogotá was mere trifle in comparison to the Yeni Raki in Bodrum at the 1993 Southern Europe Demis.

Transverse crossbar to Mill Hill East.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 23/10/2022 12:22

This is rather tame, I know, but anyone who’s read the latest adjudication will understand why

St James’s Park

St James’s Park

Reduced service on a Sunday? Still in play?

RhubarbFairy · 23/10/2022 12:38

Alas Maud, I believe you have read the adjudication incorrectly. Illegal move as outlined in the Buckingham Palace Convention of 1954.

However Green Park is a valid move and so I shall move there.

TragicMuse · 23/10/2022 12:54

The ONLY move permissible after that is Belsize Park

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 23/10/2022 12:55

Oh my. I’d heard that there were people clinging to the Buckingham Palace Convention of 1954 - even though the House of Lords declared it void in 1978 - but I’d never actually met one. I shall sashay to

St Paul’s

OP posts:
balalake · 23/10/2022 13:09

Last move seemed to mean that I cannot play the closed stations rule, which is always the subject of debate.

The Bank-Monument interchange always comes in handy, gets us on the District line so we can venture out east to East Ham

RhubarbFairy · 23/10/2022 13:59

Well that is because, like anything that happens in government, the vote was corrupt and is undertaken to serve only themselves. It was a damm crime to veto it.

But let's not bring politics into it. Rather I shall move swiftly up the Jubilee Line to Swiss Cottage to calm down.

7Worfs · 23/10/2022 14:22

A perfectly legal move to London Bridge.
I cite the Alexandria precedent of 1983.
