Tom Hanks.

Sadly, I never got to meet Terry Wogan; but I always got the distinct impression that he was the exact opposite to some of these celebs we hear about, who are sweetness and light to their friends and fellow celebs but treat the general public like poo IRL.

Terry never seemed all that comfortable in the world of celebrity and, from my observations, didn't have much time for fake luvvieness and superfluity; but he DID have a genuine love and plenty of time for normal, decent ordinary folk.

Gemma Atkinson and Fleur East I always thinks they come across very down to earth!

pigalow27 · 22/10/2022 09:38

Phoebe Waller Bridge
Jodie Comer
Suranne Jones
Yvette Cooper
Louis Theroux

I met Suranne Jones, she seemed absolutely lovely, also she is even more stunning in real life and sooooo tall.

Good to hear! I chose Terry Wogan to be my TV grandad. John Nettles is my TV dad so I hope he’s nice too!

Alan Rickman was so nice to me and my sister's. We were at a charity event and asked for pictures, his manager was trying to shoo him away but he insisted on taking pictures with us 😍

Don’t recognise most of these Americans.

My Nan and grandad met Bob Monkhouse in the 70s and apparently he was wonderful. A real comedian even in just an everyday setting and my Nan said he was such a gentleman. I’ve always loved it when they show him on tv just because of what my grandparents said about him.

Elon Musk cos he seems a really nice guy, just really intense.

Then stay off the Internet. The "rumours" about him are rather disturbing.

I wonder if some of these celebs who turn on the charm for the camera but then return to unpleasant afterwards genuinely don't see anything untoward by it.

Maybe they just see the niceness as part of their job, so once they've stopped doing the job, there's no need to keep it up - just like actors playing characters who hate each other, having a blazing argument on camera, but then going off together for a coffee and a friendly chat once it's a wrap; or, for that matter, a supermarket checkout assistant not wanting to keep scanning goods indefinitely once their shift has finished?!

I'm not saying I like their attitudes in the least, but I do think that some of them would find it very hard to grasp the issue when people comment that they're not like their on-screen persona at all. It still doesn't stop anybody from being a nice, civilised human being by default....

Sapphiresanddiamonds · 22/10/2022 10:40

JK Rowling (still quite like her tbh but I was disappointed with her TERF views)

Complete nonsense.

I always chuckled at his gag about meeting people who discover you're a comedian and immediately respond by asking you to tell them a joke. "You wouldn't say 'Ah, so you're a politician - tell me a lie!'"

Yes, agreed. Not everyone comes across naturally warm or fun. Doesn't mean they're bad people necessarily.

Plus I think sometimes shyness or anxiety can come off as rude or abrupt. I mean, I'm not sure why someone who is seriously shy would pick a career in the public eye but people are complex. Then if all your energy is poured into being outgoing for the job it might amplify those characteristics when off the clock.

Obv not an excuse for those that are abusive or gratuitously nasty, but certainly when my anxiety has been high, it's taken its toll on my good humour.

Holly & Phil 😂as if

YorkshireMum42 · 22/10/2022 11:16

I work in a theatre and it’s always interesting to find out how the celebrities treat the backstage staff. Some particularly lovely ones were
Ian Mckellen
Greame Swann
Jodie Prenger
Anthony Costa
Lynne McGrainger
Vicki Michelle
Michael Palin
Kate Robins
Joe McElderry
plus all the Strictly dancers are delightful

some of the popular comedians are not the nicest but Tony Robinson was rudest!

I really hope Richard Osman is lovely!

Spicybananas · 22/10/2022 11:51

I’ve met a few celebs through work and other things and some of my faves have been

Russell Brand
Danny from McFly
Tom Hardy
Ian Wright
Noel Fielding
Nick Knowles

Elton John was hands down the rudest celeb I’ve ever met.

How do you know they're American if you've never heard of them? Have you really been googling every name on the thread?

Geminijust · 22/10/2022 14:02

I don’t see how it’s any different to me pretending to be nice to people at work that I can’t stand.

NeedWineNow · 22/10/2022 14:44

Dave Grohl. He is my ultimate rock God and the only bloke I'd leave DH for! I'm reading his book at the moment and he comes across in this, and at any time I've seen him interviewed, as such a nice bloke.
