Which hot chocolate will make me like hot chocolate?

I dont like tea or coffee but really feel like I would like to at least like hot chocolate I feel like I'm missing out when all around seem to be walking around with nice warming hot drinks from Costa etc. I like chocolate so I should like hot chocolate shouldn't I? The only time I've had it as a child was some sort of powder mixed with boiling water and it pretty much just tasted like hot brown water. So where should I go/what should I buy to try to like hot chocolate?

Can I jump on if I may, does anyone know which cafes make one that's not fully made on milk? I have a slight lactose intolerance, a quarter of a cup is OK but not a full one! Thanks x

I just bought an Asda version of the velvetiser and it made a lovely creamy chocolate, I only used the tescos own brand powder and it was lovely

Buy Spanish hot chocolate in a tetra pack, it’s available online in the UK.

It has to be made with milk, don’t bother with the instant ones you make with water. At home, I like the Lindt one, preferably with cream and marshmallows and made with frothy milk using my coffee machine milk frother.

Honestly though, Hotel Chocolat is the place to go - the hot chocolates from their cafe are to die for especially with the chocolate whipped cream and they do loads of different flavours.

Use real chocolate. Whichever type you like. 35g in a mug or pan and add a small amount of milk. Just enough to cover it if in a mug. Microwave for 40 seconds, or heat until all melted. Give a really good stir as any separation at this stage will mean it doesn't mix in well. Add the rest of your milk, stir in and heat to preferred temperature. I like bitter chocolate, so all powders are too sweet. 70-85% cocoa chocolate is my preference, but same method for any chocolate. Cocoa powder is what I use if I don't have chocolate.

Following my comment above - Hotel Chocolat do vegan hot chocolates with plant milk and their dark chocolate!

Another vote for Hotel Chocolat from me … if you like sweet flavours the salted caramel is amazing.

Failing that (velvitiser isn’t cheap and they don’t have many coffee shops) I prefer Nero hot chocolate to costa. It seems more chocolate-y….. but since going hotel chocolat I struggle to drink any powder based hot chocolate.

I know this is not chocolate but how about herbal tea - things like mint tea taste nothing like actual tea and most places sell it if you’re out and about.

I also like black current cordial with hot water.

I was in Poland once in Posnan. Bitterly cold. Young student hosts took me to a cafe and ordered hot chocolate. It was ladled out if a tureen into small cups. Rich,thick and utterly,utterly delicious. Has ruined me as have never tasted the like since.

Twinings Swiss Chocolate Drink is the absolute nuts.

Pricey but worth it. I stock up when it's on offer. Best price is £3.50 in Waitrose at the moment.

Another vote for the HC velvetiser here! It’s not cheap, but they are offering £20 off at the moment which makes it a teeny bit less pricey.

The only hot chocolate I like is options! It’s amazing! Also Spanish hot chocolate cola coa can buy online 🤤

My favourite is Costa.
Years ago Options did a Turkish Delight one that was amazing (and low cal). I wish they would bring it back.

There's a place near me called Gail's I think it's a chain though and the hot chocolate is amazing it's like melted chocolate. Not for everyone but I have a sweet tooth. Not watery at all, it's just like drinking melted chocolate 🍫

try oatly barista- makes lovely creamy hot choc. I also once had a hot choc from Costa with coconut milk which was also really nice.

I love a velvetiser hot chocolate, you can buy chocolate flakes in Tesco which are as nice as the hotel chocolate ones

I have to agree costa hot chocolate is amazing, I do like starbucks, haven't tried anywhere else.

Costa is awful. No milk in the powder and the marshmallows are now vegan so don't melt. Urgh
