Have you ever fainted?

Soubriquet · 17/10/2022 16:21

I fainted for the first time in my life yesterday.

Currently have covid and I got into bed with my cup of tea and laptop to watch something.

Next time I know, my legs burning and ive spilt my tea everywhere.

Never fainted before and I had no warning sign before hand. Just literally out and up again.

I was initially confused as to why my leg was burning but cottoned on quick to what what was happened

Yes but I have felt it coming everytime.

WhenDovesFly · 17/10/2022 16:26

Yes, fainted a few times, but each time I got a weird feeling of losing consciousness as I was losing my balance. The first time I remember actually slurring "I'm fainting" and dropping to the floor. Other times I think it was a bit quicker.

BamBamBilla · 17/10/2022 16:26

Several times. After a while I've started to recognise that feeling that happens about 2-5 seconds before it happens and try to get to the floor before I fall down.

LT2 · 17/10/2022 16:27

Once. It was last year when I was pregnant - I saw blood and fainted, falling down some stairs. Baby unharmed. I wasnonly a few months along so well protected and cushioned in there.

Loads of times. I’m anaemic with low bp. It’s not been a problem bar falling down stairs a few times and fainting in the bathroom where I’ve hit my head a few times. Sometimes preceded by a whooshing falling down a tunnel feeling and going deaf but not always.

Hope your leg isn’t too sore!

DeedIDo · 17/10/2022 16:28

Not since 1978 thankfully, and only once then, but I generally have low BP and get up slowly whenever I can now.

Thank you. Luckily no. It stung for a couple of hours after it happened but it’s perfectly fine now.

I was just so confused

Yes, twice, in public. Both times I've felt a little funny, then I've gone blind (for what felt like hours, but was really only long enough to say 'I can't see' a couple of times) then felt my legs start to bend a little, and next I know I'm lying on the floor and all the people nearby have moved and are staring at me. I feel sick and everything looks like it's in high contrast.

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 17/10/2022 16:30

Once. Was aware of losing consciousness though. It was really scary. Then every time I stood up I vomited everywhere. My DH called an ambulance because when I came to after fainting I was in a bad way. They ended up taking me into hospital to get checked over because they were worried about the vomiting and my blood pressure. Was monitored and discharged.

CeciCC · 17/10/2022 16:30

Yes, but I've always had signs before it had happened. The first time, of course, I didn't know the sighs so I fainted in a party where I've knew 4 people out of 60. Every one though I was drunk. After that, I recognise the signs so I sit down and wait until I feel better. I think it's just blood pressure having a dived. As it has happened 4 Tines in 30 years I've never looked into it properly

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 17/10/2022 16:34

Once. 15 minutes later I got a job offer. Not related to the fainting but it always sticks in my mind.

DeannaFromHumanResources · 17/10/2022 16:39

Loads as a teenager, after having DD in 1999 and the last time was queuing for a ride at Universal in Florida in 2014. Always realise it’s happening, can’t do anything to stop it. I get dizzy when I stand up a lot too.

A580Hojas · 17/10/2022 16:42

Twice. Both times in the evening after not eating all day.

Soubriquet · 17/10/2022 16:42

So the common theme seems to be people know when it’s about to happen. Wonder why I didn’t get any warning signs.

Fainted as I came down the stairs at home, almost from top to bottom and landed on Henry hoover. Came to with my concerned children peering over me. Eldest child called my husband who came home. Luckily, only hurt my shoulder in the tumble but the children walked either infront or behind me for weeks if I had to use the stairs.

Thrownunderabus · 17/10/2022 16:45

I didn’t get a warning sign. One minute I was walking, the next minute I was watching the ground coming up at me and felt the pain as my head hit the shelving unit on the way down.

BF of the time came running in with his friends and I was vaguely aware of someone saying ‘she’s fainted’ as I was groggily coming around.

tiggergoesbounce · 17/10/2022 16:45

Yes i have once and fitted afterwards due to banging my head, it was in public.

I didnt know it was coming as much, but i did go a tad light headed first

Vapeyvapevape · 17/10/2022 16:49

I got up in the night for a wee , sat on the loo and suddenly everything started spinning, I woke up on the bathroom floor with blood everywhere because I'd smacked my mouth on the sink as I fell off the toilet.

Buttons294749 · 17/10/2022 16:49

All thr time!
I can tell as my brain "feels like a sponge" before i go. Very low BP

Elodie09 · 17/10/2022 16:51

I fainted a few times when I was younger. I always had a sort of ringing in my ears and a sensation of light flashing a few seconds beforehand.

princesssparklepants · 17/10/2022 16:51

Only once... yeah no warning. Was standing one minute, for a split second I felt really drunk, then woke up on the floor.

I was young, Xmas shopping in London, ate nothing all day so caused by my own stupidity

Leafblow · 17/10/2022 16:52

Yes loads of times, I have low blood pressure and am really easily effected by heat.
I know now when its coming but the first few times I didn't notice the signs, so even if you had some you might not have registered them.
If its from something like getting up too quick there is no signs, its more of a stand up=fall down. But when its hot or I am tired I start feeling a bit weak and sometimes my hearing goes echoey and my vision is a bit fuzzy first and I know to sit down before the floor comes up and hits me.

7Worfs · 17/10/2022 16:52

I’ve also had warning signs, and lost consciousness gradually - so always slowly fell to the ground without hurting myself, blacking out for literal seconds.
When I come to, I first start hearing (usually people fussing over me), then my eyes open, then speech returns shortly after. After 5-10mins I can go about my business again.

Foxfeeder · 17/10/2022 16:54

Several times but not since I was able to identify my warning sign which is seeing black and white flashes - and then I know to sit down.

Georgeskitchen · 17/10/2022 16:54

Yes, 2 or 3 occasions when pregnant, lack of food, low blood sugar
