Soubriquet · 17/10/2022 16:21

I fainted for the first time in my life yesterday.

Currently have covid and I got into bed with my cup of tea and laptop to watch something.

Next time I know, my legs burning and ive spilt my tea everywhere.

Never fainted before and I had no warning sign before hand. Just literally out and up again.

I was initially confused as to why my leg was burning but cottoned on quick to what what was happened

Op I had the same. I woke up through the night feeling sick so went to the bathroom. Next thing I knew I was waking up on the floor with a sore face. I'd face planted the porcelain cistern on my way down and the funny thing was I remember the impact, and for a split second thought shit that hurt then the next thing I woke up.
I've fainted a few times and that was completely different. I've always felt it coming on but this was weird. Some kind of blackout but when I hit the toilet cistern it registered.
Weird.
Hope your legs aren't too badly hurt and hope you get over covid quickly.

You should go and see your GP and get further tests could be linked to low blood pressure, heart, anemia or thyroid.

megletthesecond · 17/10/2022 16:56

Once. During a martial arts grade. Had to wait while higher grades finished some techniques and my low blood pressure dropped and over I went. Was ok. Failed my grade though, pah.

I fainted in the consulting room at the hospital whilst in mid conversation with the doctor. It was only the nurse rushing over to catch me that stopped me falling off the chair onto the floor.

Horrible sensation.

Campervangirl · 17/10/2022 16:58

Fainted on the bus when I was pregnant, felt myself going, tried to put my forehead on the metal hand bar, to cool down, slid to the floor instead, scary stuff.
Hope you're ok now op

tedgran · 17/10/2022 16:58

Yes, but the warning signs are so close to the actual passing out that I can't take evasive action. Last time was on a very busy hot train, everyone was very kind and it meant that I got a seat!

BlueThursday · 17/10/2022 17:00

Once after giving blood.

I must have shown obvious signs I was about to go as the nurses grabbed me and laid me down before I even knew what was happening. Best place to do it I guess!

cptartapp · 17/10/2022 17:00

Very nearly twice.
Once in fast atrial fibrillation when my heart rate was 170, luckily I was led having an ECG done in A&E at the time.
The second in the middle of the crowd waiting for U2 at Roundhay Park in Leeds.
Warning signs both times. Very unpleasant.
I'd be wondering whether you did actually faint or have had some sort of seizure.

Unforgettablefire · 17/10/2022 17:01

Sorry meant to add I had covid at the time.

PickAChew · 17/10/2022 17:01

A few times. We used to have to stand up for school assemblies and kids were fainting all the time. It was ludicrous. When I went, I felt like everything was closing in on me and getting dark and noisy. I till can't stand still for long periods without getting light headed, even though my blood pressure isn't low any more. I have to move about a bit - that would have got me shouted at, at school (in the early 80s).

When I had my ears pierced, I kept fainting in response to having my studs turned.

I've fainted after having local anaesthetic injections at the dentist.

The other times have been when I was pregnant - over and over in my first pregnancy. And then in response to pph, accompanied by throwing up.

Was that the 1997 concert? That bloody rain!

NatWestPigFamily · 17/10/2022 17:07

I used to faint a lot, the most memorable times were when I fainted at work, started feeling weird, couldn’t move or speak and face planted at my bosses feet almost knocking over my brand new colleague. Woke up on the floor with my boss holding my legs in the air.

The other still makes me sad, rushing to get the 6am train to work in winter. Fainted crossing the road, hit my head on the curb knocking myself out. Came to laying in the road with cars driving round me and a man who got my train every morning walking past. Later diagnosed with mild narcolepsy.

Longdistance · 17/10/2022 17:08

A few times. The last time it was at the dentists before lockdown. The dentist I think put too much numbing agent into my gum. All I could hear was the music going funny, I couldn’t open my eyes and I started feeling dizzy. Luckily I was in the chair, they lifted my legs up and it was brief.

GiantKitten · 17/10/2022 17:08

Once ever - no pre-awareness at all, just woke up on the floor having fallen off dining chair (sitting at table reading) and crashed into chimney breast & other chairs.

I was very battered & bruised, DH hauled me off to A&E and they did an EEG (I think? Or maybe ECG 🤔) but it didn’t show anything and I’ve never done it since. Weird.

Tumbleweed101 · 17/10/2022 17:10

Yes a few times when I was younger and had low pressure. Also if I go from a hot to cold environment there is a tendancy.

I get a strange prickling, buzzing feeling and then go really light headed. I recognise it enough to get on the floor or a bed now.

CrunchyCarrot · 17/10/2022 17:10

Three times in my life. The first, I was 9 and riding a bicycle around on our back lawn. Suddenly everything went black. I broke a finger. The second time I was about 15 and got up in the night to go to the bathroom. I don't know why I suddenly blacked out. I awoke on the bathroom floor with my head hurting, I'd hit the back of it on the enamel hand basin on the way down. The last time I was about 30 and had had a couple of ciders at the pub. Was in my student hostel room lying on my bed, there was a knock on the door, I got up to open it and promptly passed out. All three times I had no warning signs.

This happened to me twice. I was aware of the blood leaving my body, felt light headed and everything started to go black. Nurses laid me down quickly with my legs up.

Startuplife · 17/10/2022 17:11

Loads of times, I’m very squeamish. I always get the fuzzy eyes thing and feeling like I’m going to lose consciousness. Once I managed to lie down in the street before I actually passed out which was lucky 😂

I feel totally fine afterwards so. It’s really annoying when it happens during a blood test and they want me to stay there for a while. As soon as I wake up I’m perfectly fine again.

jellybe · 17/10/2022 17:11

Couple of times. Once in front of a class of year 9s (that was fun 🙄) and once when having my wedding dress pinned for hemming.

Vinorosso74 · 17/10/2022 17:12

Once when I was 19 or 20. I'd given blood and had just finished my coffee and biscuits, went to see my friend who was donating for the first time so was a bit behind me. I remember feeling a bit weird then all of a sudden lots of people were looking down at me. I really bashed my chest on the way down so had a very bruised boob!
They rang the next day to check how I was and was advised to stick to cold drinks afterwards which I did and never had any problems (I can't donate now).

BlackaddersCodpiece · 17/10/2022 17:14

Twice, once as a teenager in Tesco (I overheated, I was a bit of an emo kid and was wearing a hoody and beanie hat in August), and once when I was pregnant, and again, I think I overheated.

First time I managed to find my mum and apparently I fainted in her arms. Second time I was in a cafe and went down whilst trying to order a cold drink. Both times I could feel myself going, tunnelling vision etc.

I've felt like I might faint several times, it only fine it twice.

FreshlyLaunderedSheets · 17/10/2022 17:15

I fainted the first time I gave blood, I was 20 and at uni and the main hall had a blood donation team in to get new donors. I hadn't had much to eat but thought nothing of it, as it was still quite early (lunch time). I was chatting away and the next thing I remember slipping off the chair into oblivion. I got two glasses of fresh orange when I came around though! as well as a stern lecture on eating properly before donating blood and teased mercilessly for months. It was in front of a lot of people!

Didn't put me off becoming a regular donor though!

sanityisamyth · 17/10/2022 17:15

Many times. Everything goes slightly darker, as if the sun has gone in, and it's like watching a very old film with the white flashing spots all over it. The sound also changes too - hard to describe. Horrible, horrible feeling. I know I'm going down and sometimes I just can't sit/lie down fast enough.

EndlessMagpies · 17/10/2022 17:18

Only twice, and I didn't feel it coming on either occasion.

First time was a squashed finger, which I took one look at, realised I could see bone, and then found myself on the floor.

Second time was to do with my blood pressure crashing after taking medication that didn't agree with me. I got a ride in an ambulance out of that one.

As476 · 17/10/2022 17:22

Me. I suffer from low blood pressure and every now and again it tanks and I drop. I usually feel as though I’m in a tunnel and then my ears start ringing but I can’t hear anything - a bit like when you come out of a nightclub, then I faint
