Did my shopping today and Aldi. As usual, I had to go to the other supermarket next door to

Better quality bread. Sourdough. Wholemeal sourdough.

Bunnyfuller · 16/10/2022 20:51

Whiskas. My cat is a selfish twat and refuses to economise. Getting 120 sachets off eBay now, lots cheaper

simonthedog · 16/10/2022 20:54

Costa Americano Tassimo pods

melmos · 16/10/2022 21:01

Rock salt and peppercorn refills, capers, better crisps (what the hell has happened to snack right post covid?!), Dishwasher salt, tofu, Quorn roast, fresh or frozen un smoked mackerel, offal and less plastic packaging.

ureterr1blemuriel · 16/10/2022 21:02

I’m a weekly Aldi shopper but have to go elsewhere for:

dishwash salt & rinse aid (I’ve only ever seen it there once in the middle aisle)
rye bread (not had it now for months)
kids toothpaste
frozen spinach
decent fresh bread

TheHauntedPencilCase · 16/10/2022 21:04

Tofu. They have an OK meat free freezer section but I prefer tofu.

WakingUpDistress · 16/10/2022 21:08

I wish they would start by allowing you to pack as you go.

Fine to ask people to pack AGAIN if you are healthy. Nit so much if you are ill/have some disability.
I mean when our Aldi opened, you couldn’t even move the CC machine so someone in a wheelchair could pay!

DogInATent · 16/10/2022 21:08

Welding sets.
The number of times I've gone to to the weekly shop, only to have to drive out to an industrial estate for a small weld set.

Rockandgrohl · 16/10/2022 21:12

Risotto rice
Kids toothpaste

For those of you who also have snobby cats....farm foods often have whiskas on a fab deal

AlwaysLatte · 16/10/2022 21:14

We use Aldi now and generally very happy with it but still need to go to another shop for various things like Hollandaise Sauce, certain branded cereals, Tabasco Sauce, fever tree tonic and others I know (and I'd rather they had those basics rather than the strange assortment of things in the middle aisle) but those are just a few things that's it's easy to pop into another shop for.

VeganFromSveden · 16/10/2022 21:18

So if Aldi vegan range wasn’t being bought in sufficient amounts to warrant restocking, how is it that stores such as Tesco, increase their plant based fresh (and frozen) choices, year on year?

mrsjimhopper · 16/10/2022 21:21

@AlwaysLatte their own tonic cans are really nice ( the fever tree rip off ones )

@WakingUpDistress I think you can pack at the checkout. I asked a few years ago along the lines of "oh sorry I forgot you can't pack here" as I was stuffing stuff into bags and they said they changed their policy prefer if you don't but they won't ask you to stop.

Zwicky · 16/10/2022 21:27

I wish they would start by allowing you to pack as you go

ours has self checkout now. Life changing.

you can get Faith in Nature shampoo at sainsburys @Sorebackandibs but I usually get mine at TKMaxx

CustardPatella · 16/10/2022 21:30

Tofu seems to be a popular one, based on about 10 people on Mumsnet wanting it.... Reason enough to stock it I'd say!

Today I ventured to big Asda for the stuff Aldi and Lidl don't sell. Mostly it was world foods aisle. Capers, brown basmati rice 5kg, uncooked poppadoms, various spices. I go twice a year

Cuck00soup · 16/10/2022 21:33

HighlandPony · 16/10/2022 18:50

Fresh bakery like Lidl’s

This.

Also I can't remember who posted about nitrate free ham - but I think Parma ham is nitrate free.

embolass · 16/10/2022 21:42

I pack as I go but
On the checkout I organise it so heavy stuff first, lightest last and split into fridge/freezer and ambient. It sounds ridiculous Grin but I do heavy frozen and fridge stuff to light frozen and fridge stuff, then heavy ambient to light ambient

Then I have open bags, big ones in the trolley and just put it in so I can pack at the speed they scan, one bag for fridge and one for ambient
Anything that doesn't quite fit I pack after in a spare bag I keep. Concerned my packing method is excessive now, I went with my dad the other week and he was baffled

Gluten free basics, so bread and pasta and cereal. I always have to go elsewhere to get these for my coeliac son. Main meals we can do generally and their GF tempura chicken and fish goujons are a staple, just need more options!

Dino rolls are by the till in our Aldi.

I love their Watermelon gel cream moisturizer but they only do it once or twice a year.

Their Lacura mascara is AMAZING too

What are the gulten free fish goujons called. I havent seen these are they fresh or frozen please

captncrunch · 16/10/2022 19:59

Kids toothpaste
Rinse aid and dishwasher salt

They have kids toothpaste in my branch...think it was aqua fresh big teeth one

DodgyLeftLeg · 16/10/2022 22:03

Also agree with gluten free basics and lack of dishwasher salt/rinse aid.

Some of the items mentioned I’ve seen so maybe it’s store specific. In mine I never see any curry pastes which we use a lot or arborio rice.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 16/10/2022 22:29

What on earth are dino rolls? Google is not helping me.

thenewduchessoflapland · 16/10/2022 23:54

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 16/10/2022 18:47

I wish they'd start doing Dino rolls again - they were a great alternative to bear yoyos

Bread flour - my local has stopped having since they had a refurb.

They also stopped selling capers which is a pain

White rye bread

Lunchbox sized packs of mini flavoured rice cakes

Nitrite free ham and bacon

Tofu

If they stocked all of these things I wouldn't need to go to Tesco as well.

I brought some today in a Aldi where I'm on holiday;they've stopped doing them in my local Aldi.

I also picked up a insanely good cider in the Aldi here that I've never seen back home either.

Land Rovers. I could do with a cheap Land Rover, what with winter on the way and all that.

You never know what might pop up in the random shit aisle.
