Tesco is out of stock for everything - we’re doomed!

Logged onto the Tesco site this morning to book a slot for early November. Everything is showing out of stock! Perhaps they know something we don’t…
Apparently they only have one type of red wine to sell (Malbec) and that’s out of stock, too. Gonna be a long and hard winter.🙁

eggs/poultry are badly affected by bird flu atm.
expect to have to be more flexible with what stores carry and higher prices.

as many pp mention due to the weather this summer many crops have lower yields or failed completely.

plus ukraine
plus brexit

we will need to get more flexible with our diet in the future.

greenacrylicpaint · 17/10/2022 07:12

on the plus side apples and pears are plentyful and very tasty this year (but smaller fruit)

tomatos have done well this year in the european north, but the big growers in italy and spain had issues with drought.

Redkettle · 17/10/2022 07:34

We buy lots tinned Tom's as we make a lot of fresh stuff as daughter is vegan. Went to asda a massive one, they only had 4 tins left.

Lidls has been like this for ages. Whole freezer sections empty. Things you could get pre covid are no more.

My Tesco (London) is now dire - so much standard produce missing. They’ve even started to put books and stationery supplies where there used to be fresh fruit and vegetables. Waitrose, however, remains a groaning cornocopeia (sp?) of plenty

Let's be honest, your not going to starve, still thousands of other items available. It's just a supply and delivery issue, that's it.

but indicative of our post Brexit economic shitshow

@Numbat2022 I think Brexit might be more relevant than Covid for this.

When all else fails, blame Brexit.

That was 2016.

Yawn.

😴

And we’re leaving with it daily. Even Jacob Rees Mogg - not someone I normally quote - says it may be a generation before benefits are seen

I still can't get sun dried tomato puree.

OMG, we’re doomed…

Well quite.

LimpBiskit · 17/10/2022 07:54

Did a click and collect yesterday and about a third of the order was unavailable.

Oysterbabe · 17/10/2022 08:06

I've got a Tesco delivery coming today. Zero subs or missing items.

nannybeach · 17/10/2022 08:07

Agree with a couple of posters. People expect everything on tap,at the click of a button and cheap! No, not me! I don't buy fruit and veg out of season,it's disgusting and tasteless, not to mention the airmiles impact. Apples from South Africa in winter, gased, irradiated, cooled,up to a year old. I don't shop online. Obviously if you have mobility or access issues that's different.

Shopping app all up and running again here in NI. Crisis over (shortest crisis ever.)

I was in NI last week and went to Lidl and Tesco. It was a revelation. The shelves are full, and everything was fresh. It really put into stark relief how crap and expensive ours have become, and how much less choice and quality we have now. We’ll not starve, no, but it is shit to see how far we’ve fallen.

While the Referendum was in 2016, the Withdrawal agreement only came into force22 months ago and the EU has graciously allowed many concessions while the UK is unilaterally ignoring many of it's responsibilities to allow for example food to enter the UK with minimal checks the EU and WTO will ramp up their insistence that the UK complies with the Withdrawal agreement and TCA. Thus the UK will discover MANY more issues coming to light. Pretending (or lying) that the UK is a great power that can do what it likes, simply won't work or much longer. The NIP comes to a bit of a head on 28 October and travel to the EU from (March/May) will fet considerably more time consuming as Biometric ID will be required.

Obviously. Even the poxy telegraph had an article saying 'project fear' was right. Not that there was a project fear. Just uncommon sense.

dutysuite · 17/10/2022 08:46

Just checked and no problems here and my Tesco local seems fine however I try not to use Tesco anymore as a I can’t stand their pricing system.

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 17/10/2022 08:51

Thought I would try asda for online with the relaunched basics range. 16 out of 46 items I ordered unavailable & no substitution available.
Went in to sainsburys Saturday pm and it was pretty low on stock of all sorts of things- tinned tomatoes were the item i particularly noticed. Plenty of wine though their "offers" are now £1.50 higher than they used to be. My fave was reduced to £8 instead of £6.50. Boo...

Figgygal · 17/10/2022 09:06

Yes seen the same on morrisons app and in stores

balalake · 17/10/2022 09:17

I am grateful to have a twice weekly fruit and veg stall at a local market within walking distance.

Hope OP you can shop in person and get some of those missing items. Though lack of red wine I would not call a crisis, given my belief that too many people drive the next morning under its influence.

Calandor · 17/10/2022 09:28

Just use Amazon Fresh. Easy.

WahineToa · 17/10/2022 09:39

No problems at all. Stop doing this! You are going to encourage people to panic buy!

RosetteNebula · 17/10/2022 09:48

I agree it must just be regional supply problems. I'm in the North East and for about 2 months there were hardly any crisps or biscuits in Asda but it's fine now.

lancashirelady · 17/10/2022 09:52

Went to Asda yesterday. Shelves were full.

Prettypaisleyslippers · 17/10/2022 10:00

Sainsburys was totally fine yesterday.

Refrosty · 17/10/2022 10:02

10 nonsense substitutions from ASDA, and we are shopping with Asda as Tesco was even worse 🫤

Rosehugger · 17/10/2022 10:04

I do Aldi click and collect and there are one or two substitutions but no sign of a great shortage of anything. Their chickpeas have suddenly gone as shit as the Sainsbury's own though, I've emailed them about that.
