Tesco is out of stock for everything - we’re doomed!

Logged onto the Tesco site this morning to book a slot for early November. Everything is showing out of stock! Perhaps they know something we don’t…
Apparently they only have one type of red wine to sell (Malbec) and that’s out of stock, too. Gonna be a long and hard winter.🙁

I alternate deliveries between Waitrose, Ocado and Morrisons and have only had the occasional missing item which has usually been replaced by a reasonable alternative.

Last week Waitrose offered me the chance to book a Christmas delivery date so I have one booked on 24 December which is brilliant. I used to hate the old days when you had to log into Tescos at midnight on an announced date and spend two hours refreshing the page and then finding the nearest date to the 25th was like the 20th.

Must be a regional thing as my online shop is fine and shelves are full when you go in. I have a few subs but nothing different to usual

That's nothing I went into tescos the other day. They had no milk, no meat, no cheese, no yogurts, literally the 8 fridges were empty. Envy

LondonJax · 16/10/2022 15:06

My last home delivery was fine and has been for months. But I noticed in our local Tesco and Waitrose (the only two supermarkets for 10 miles near us) that similar things were missing. Like only a couple of types of jam, no full cream milk, whole racks of crisps, not tomato ketchup - very random things. The good news is broccoli is back (went missing in action around our way for months)

Itstheimplication · 16/10/2022 15:44

Ours are like this at the moment but I was chatting to the manager and they said they are reorganising the store and fridges/freezers for all the holiday stock that's coming in. Our other supermarkets all appear to be absolutely fine.

astarsheis · 16/10/2022 15:49

Well my local TESCO was just fine...the only thing i couldn't get just now was the largest jars of Nutella.

ThisShipIsSinking · 16/10/2022 15:51

Let's be honest, your not going to starve, still thousands of other items available. It's just a supply and delivery issue, that's it.

JocelynBurnell · 16/10/2022 15:58

All of the supermarkets around here seem to have difficulty supplying fresh fruit and vegetables at the moment. This is very unusual for this time of year.

It's likely we will have a lot of shortages of this winter, especially after the Christmas period.

Greeklover · 16/10/2022 16:09

I’m due an Asda delivery this afternoon. The manager of the huge Cardiff store called earlier to apologise for the amount of subs and unavailable items and also to say he’s has so many delivery drivers go sick with covid that he will be bringing the shopping himself and could I accommodate a different time slot.

organisedmother · 16/10/2022 16:32

Mine did this too im Northamptonshire too but it’s fixed now

AdoraBell · 16/10/2022 16:43

That’s good of the manager Greeklover hope the delivery/substitutes are okay for you.

Sometimes our local stores are ok, others not, on balance worse than pre Covid/Brexit, why should this be?

Really struck me when on holiday this year how full Spanish and French stores were, on line shopping/delivery doesn't seem to be a thing over in Europe does it?

France certainly had a supermarket 'Drive' outlets that I have not explored. I think you phone/email/online pick' the items you want then rock up in your car (or taxi I suppose) to actually pick up your goods. There are around half a dozen numbered spaces usually under cover to park at then ferry your purchases to the car quickly. Sometimes they are 'attached' to a supermarket but also as separate warehouses. France and Spain were not particularly affected by driver shortages except maybe a few due top Covid absentees.

Just stop this now.
It's very silly and makes people panic.
Remember March 2020?

This

It was panic buying that caused shortages before. I went into Lidl one day and saw a couple pulling 3 trollies between them, heaped so high that products were literally rolling of onto the floor. The pandemic brought out the best in some people and the worst in others.

swimlyn · 16/10/2022 18:14

There’s no problem with stock at all in western Europe. Just get on the Eurostar for your shopping and you’ll be okay.

MadisonAvenue · 16/10/2022 20:54

My Tesco order had quite a number of substitutions on Friday, and four items which suitable subs couldn’t be found for. Eggs were one of those, even though I checked availability immediately after receiving the emailed receipt and there were plenty which could’ve been sent instead.

swimlyn · 16/10/2022 23:28

I still can't get sun dried tomato puree.

OMG, we’re doomed…

Twillow · 16/10/2022 23:58

PriamFarrl · 16/10/2022 10:25

What? I wasn’t aware that buying courgettes was seasonal.

Good grief.
Courgettes are seasonal because they grow in the UK only in summer. Of course you can (usually) buy them all year round, generally grown under polytunnels in Spain. Which is why they are more expensive 'out of season'.

It's because foreign growers are far less likely to want to export to the UK due to more procedures, paperwork, delays, etc due to the UK no longer being in the EU and also of course fuel increases.

Check if you have enabled subs on your order. There are definitely fewer types of egg in my local store for the past few weeks, such as no boxes of 12.

Mada1985 · 17/10/2022 01:49

No dryer whiskas cat for for weeks up here or corgettes yet lidls has loads so it's a Tesco thing

I have subs automatically enabled for everything.

Another was chopped tomatoes. I’d ordered a tin of the cheap label Grower’s Harvest for us and my mother wanted a tin of Tesco brand ones, 17p dearer. The Grower’s Harvest were out of stock with no suitable sub yet the tin of Tesco ones was delivered.

Sweettea89 · 17/10/2022 06:57

Nothing out of stock in my area.... have you considered migrating? 😆

Tesco is out of stock for everything - we’re doomed!
SpringIntoChaos · 17/10/2022 07:04

There's still 'food' though isn't there? Just maybe not what you wanted 🤷‍♀️

We are going to have to adapt for a while I think, bring out the old WWII 'make do and mend' mindset 🤷‍♀️

This will pass...as long as people are not stupid!
