If we ended up with Johnson vs Starmer at the next election, who would the Red Wall Tory voters go for?

Some commentators are saying the Tories could end up with Johnson back as leader and hence PM, in the very near future. If that was the choice at the next general election, whenever it is (it has to happen by December 2024, I believe), would the Red Wall seats that went Tory last time stick with the Tories, or go back to Labour? And if you're one of those voters, what are your reasons?

The random posters on the internet are in good company though. its more of a general party syndrome.

why do you think name calling is a good idea? It’s one of the things that’s putting voters off Labour, why keep doing it?

People don't base their vote on hurty Internet feelz.😂😂😂

And if they do, they're idiots.Hmm

Twilight7777 · 15/10/2022 19:16

Why ask the question if you’re gonna criticise people for telling the truth?! As it stands now I wouldn’t vote full stop. Both parties are bad in different ways, labour believe a man can give birth 🙄

They are going to end up with one or the other.

I get really irritated by the arrogance of those claiming to be ‘politically homeless’. No Party will ever represent a person’s view 100%. Look at both and see which is most reflective of your views.

The point seems to be that neither of them reflect many of their views. You seem to be taking this awfully personally. It’s just people at my work talking. I personally never discuss my political views with colleagues or strangers.

Ah here we go again.

Why the need to insult?

What attempts to overturn the result of the referendum?

Yes I find that confusing. Labour and the Libdems did want a Referendum to confirm any deal. But that's not the same as overturning the original one.

Presumably there would need to be a Referendum to join the Customs Union . Would the Dead Wall oppose that as well.

NightNite · 15/10/2022 19:25

I think people underestimate the power of the Tory supporting media to sway voters, especially those who have no interest in politics for whom the tabloid press is their main source of information/opinion.
The tabloids ability to blow up the hatred of 'forriners' taking our jobs and 'controlling us' (the EU), shouldn't be forgotten.
Obviously, the 'first past the post' system polarises opinion as well as you'll almost certainly end up with either labour or the Tories in power.
Almost all modern European democracies use Proportioal Representation (PR). We could have had PR but Labour voted against it.

The leave campaign never liked facts to get in the way of their agenda. It suits them now to say that the other parties attempted to overturn the referendum result. They don't particularly care about the fact that that isn't actually true.

Can I ask why?

I like him! I happen to think he’ll also get re-elected.

Well, I presumed that you liked him, but why? Obviously, you don't have to say if you would prefer not to. I just find it incredibly difficult to understand why anyone would actively choose a leader who is so evidently dishonest and lacking in any kind of moral compass.

Would you be prepared to share what it is that you like about him exactly?

Ah here we go again.

Why the need to insult?

Because I am human and sometimes get sick of the whole "I know my decision fucked up the country but stop being mean to me." I am tired of snowflakey fuckers, their hurty internet feelz and their refusal to take responsibility for the shitshow they voted for.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 15/10/2022 19:41

I certainly don't think identity politics has done Labour any favours, but the same could be said for every other mainstream political party in the UK, sadly. The Tories are waking up to the conflict between gender ideology and various important issues like safeguarding of children and other vulnerable people, women's rights, gay rights, freedom of speech and thought and religious freedoms, but it's a bit late now. It was on their watch that many unforeseen problems arose and took root.

OP posts:
ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 15/10/2022 19:41

Can’t you see that this hurts the very same party you support?

NightNite · 15/10/2022 19:42

Even the Brexit supporting Telegraph now admit that 'Project Fear was right all along'

www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2022/10/15/project-fear-right-along/

Obviously no sign of an apology for the shitshow we're now in that they lied through their teeth to bring about.

Lurkerlot · 15/10/2022 19:43

Though not exactly a Red wall seat (it has Twice voted in a Tory), our constituency will be returning a Labour MP.

lannistunut · 15/10/2022 19:45

The polling suggests that the Labour lead in red wall seats is very large now: twitter.com/RedfieldWilton/status/1577327686430511104

Why the need to insult?

Because the Tories have fucked up our country. My kids schools are buckling under the pressure.
As is the hospital I have to sit for 6 hours in with my elderly parents in a&e when they are ill.
Nothing works.
There are food banks everywhere.
My estimated energy bill for a family of 4 is £7k.
Oh and they want to tax the rich less!
You people voting Tory have caused this. So either stop it. Or have people inform you that you are selfish, ignorant, bastards.

That is why.

Pourmeanotherwine · 15/10/2022 19:46

I'll vote labour or green. Not red wall though, my constituency has been continuously labour since 1935.

PrioritiseCalm · 15/10/2022 19:47

I grew up in a classic Red Wall seat, an ex-mining area which in 2019 returned a Tory MP for the first time in its history. My family still have links with the area, and know plenty of people who voted Leave then Tory for the first time.

Most of them like Boris, and were disgusted by the attempts to overturn the result of the referendum. They also wanted politicians to actually do something about uncontrolled mass immigration. They won’t vote Labour because they believe the party has turned on the working class, and is now for immigrants, posh people from London and students. They might not like the Tories, but they believe Labour despises them and their values.

What efforts were made to overturn the referendum? Certainly none by Labour under Corbyn or Starmer.

PrioritiseCalm · 15/10/2022 19:49

And everyone has a right to disagree with Tory voting scum.

and do you have the right to accept some responsibility and therefore criticism for the choices people like you made which are now destroying lives?

So please give your heads a Mumsnetty fucking wobble & STOP SUPPORTING THE TORIES.
