We Both stayed off work. Neither of us feel well at all. In laws shopped for us. I think we don’t venture out till test negative. Are we being over cautious?

Sister recently had it and wasn't feeling well. She stayed home for 5 days. She worked from home one of those days.

A580Hojas · 15/10/2022 16:21

Please do. A 60 year old friend of mine has covid. He's had all the jabs. He's been very unwell for weeks.

JohnsShirt · 15/10/2022 16:21

I'm still positive after two weeks, and also still feel like shit.
I'm going out as soon as I feel better.

Teachers who I know are told to work if they feel well enough and nurses are told to work if they feel well but wear a mask. For work it all depends on their policy. Sensible people will try to avoid others if possible but they may not be able to.

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 15/10/2022 16:24

Two people I know who had COVID stayed in when ill but went out positive.

catfunk · 15/10/2022 16:24

I would work from home and stay home where possible because a. I felt like shite, too ill to be out and about and b. wouldn't want to spread it in the same way I wouldn't want to spread a flu or norovirus.
Once I felt ok even if testing pos, I'd pop out and about if necessary but wear a mask and keep my distance from others.

EdithWeston · 15/10/2022 16:26

Yes, I don't want to be responsible for spreading it round. So many people have conditions which mean it might be nasty for them, or cannot afford more sick leave if too ill to work, or who visit elderly relatives, or who work in NHS and see people who are vulnerable.

Yes, it brings difficulties for us, but just because I've been the unlucky one doesn't leave me feeling it's in any way to pass on those difficulties to other people.

And that's not allowing for the risk of more severe disease (which seems to strike capriciously) or of long covid

TabithaTittlemouse · 15/10/2022 16:29

We stayed at home

ButterflyBiscuit · 15/10/2022 16:32

In reality I expect those who work from home or who have good sick pay (My friend works in IT and is easily off for the week) will isolate.

Those in low paid jobs or people facing (ironically) nurses/teachers/shop workers will work when feel up to it. Or in many cases never test in the first place!

wetotter · 15/10/2022 16:33

I went out only for toilet walks for the dog. At odd times of day, in places where it was easy to keep away from people and wearing a mask

Intemperatefatty · 15/10/2022 16:34

When I had covid in July, it wiped me out for almost a week. I couldn’t go anywhere even if I wanted to. I was testing positive or about 10 days after I felt better. I didn’t go into the office, worked from home till I was Neg but I still had to do the school run, take kids to their various clubs and get the shopping in. Wore a mask and tried to keep my distance when I was out but got some really dirty looks off people at times. 😕

Muchtoomuchtodo · 15/10/2022 16:36

NHS Wales here, we’re required to get a pcr if we have any cold / flu like symptoms and stay off if it’s positive. We can then LFT on day 5 and 6 and return to work if it’s negative and we’re symptom free

Crazykefir · 15/10/2022 16:37

I had covid

Crazykefir · 15/10/2022 16:39

Oops. I avoided going out and wore a mask if I needed too.

saraclara · 15/10/2022 16:46

I had it a couple of months ago. I live alone and had just run out of the basics. I put on a new FFP3 mask and went to the supermarket at 11pm when it's deserted. I ran in and bought milk, bread etc and took the stuff straight to a self service till. I was in and out within two minutes, but I still felt guilty.

Fortunately I had no appetite to speak of during the five days that I isolated, and I was happy to live on toast.

I did go for walks in the evening though. As a classic mumsnetter, I live (semi) rurally and just a few yards from woodland and wide open farmland. I didn't see a soul.

EasterIssland · 15/10/2022 16:47

I tested positive early at the week. I’ve been out and to a few shops as I needed a few things . I wear a ffp2 properly when indoors.

caffelattetogo · 15/10/2022 16:50

We isolated. People had said it was like a cold for them, but my husband was bedbound with it and I felt like I had flu. We wouldn't want to spread that.

WeeblesWibbleWobble · 15/10/2022 16:57

No if i felt ok to go out same with anything.

Dh would even if rough as he works solo outside, own equipment etc

WakingUpDistress · 15/10/2022 16:58

YES

@Muchtoomuchtodo , I might be moving to Wales… sounds so much more grown up.

KangarooKenny · 15/10/2022 16:58

I wasn’t allowed to work, and I stayed at home while feeling unwell, but that’s it.

Abouttimemum · 15/10/2022 17:01

I’m surprised people are still even testing tbh!

Abouttimemum · 15/10/2022 17:01

Obviously unless you’re in a job where it’s required

MrsRhodes · 15/10/2022 17:01

I work in a supermarket (one of the big four) and we are not allowed to stay off apparently. If we feel fine then positive or not we have to come in. Been
like that for a while.

CrunchyCarrot · 15/10/2022 17:02

My partner and I both isolated at home. He works from home anyway but wasn't well enough to do so. I wouldn't want to spread it to anyone.

Thrownunderabus · 15/10/2022 17:03

Not where I work. They have to stay home until 2 negative tests still.
