We Both stayed off work. Neither of us feel well at all. In laws shopped for us. I think we don’t venture out till test negative. Are we being over cautious?

That was about nurses btw.

stargirl1701 · 15/10/2022 17:07

I had COVID 4 weeks ago. I did 5 days self isolation in the guest room as per Scot Govt guidance. I then did 4 days of trying to stay home as much as possible but wearing an FFP2 mask if I had to go on an errand - mostly drop off and pick for the DC. I tested negative on Day 9 so returned to work on Day 10.

grayhairdontcare · 15/10/2022 17:10

At my work you are in unless you are to unwell to work.
They then pay you just £39 for being off with covid.
No one is off with it.
Everyone comes in regardless.

I tested positive a few weeks ago, and was actually really ill for about 4 days. By the fifth day I was still testing positive but did manage to get myself out of bed and showered (although still felt rotten, I was definitely not as bad as the previous days).

I'm a teacher...the expectation was to go in! I just couldn't...literally couldn't... lift my arms or head, or walk to the bathroom without needing a long lie down after!

My head teacher still asked me to 'work from home' and do the planning for the HLTA who was covering my class, and to log into Teams every morning at 9am to deliver the phonics lessons to my class, and to log in to the 90 minute staff meeting on the Tuesday (my Day 2) I declined all of these suggestions 🤦‍♀️😱

SpringIntoChaos · 15/10/2022 17:12

Oh...and yes...I stayed inside! It's brutal and I wouldn't wish to pass it on!!

LovinglifeAF · 15/10/2022 17:12

I wouldn’t go out if I knew I had it, but I’d only do the 5 days. It’s never been necessary to isolate until a negative test, even when isolation was mandatory. However, it’s unlikely I will know I have it again as I don’t and won’t test any more, I’ll stay home if I don’t feel well.

Not where I work. They have to stay home until 2 negative tests still.

I take it your workplace pay for the tests?

SilverGlitterBaubles · 15/10/2022 17:15

I would try to WFH and not spread what I had regardless of whether it was a cold or Covid but no I wouldn't fully isolate like a hermit for 10 days like before. I'm still pretty traumatised by those calls from test and trace asking intrusive questions having to account for my family's movements over several phone calls. And the bloody app thing pinging people. No chance sensible yes but isolating no.

WinterDeWinter · 15/10/2022 17:20

I'm appalled that companies are allowed to require people to work with covid when they will certainly infect others, including the group of people we know will be very sick and could die. I'm fucking gobsmacked that the NHS is doing so.

This country is totally fucked, just on the basis of what that says about us.

Flowersonthewall6 · 15/10/2022 17:36

TW and name change

I caught covid in early pregnancy and I was so bad we had to terminate the pregnancy to save my life. I would be fuming if people aren’t staying at home knowing they are covid positive.

emmathedilemma · 15/10/2022 17:41

Everyone I know who’s had it recently has stayed at home. A friend walked the dogs at quiet times of day with a mask on but no one has been to work or shopping.

EndlessMagpies · 15/10/2022 17:42

I share an office with someone who tested positive all last week. I've not had covid, and she stayed at home and wfh instead. I would not have been at all happy if the company policy was that she had to come in to work regardless.

dottieautie · 15/10/2022 17:50

I had covid 6 weeks ago and I just tested positive again today. I previously received treatment as I’m CEV but because it’s so close to the last time they won’t give me treatment again. People are coming in to work with “just a bad cold” every day. Clearly one of them didn’t have just a bad cold. Nobody is bothering with protecting those around them and I’m not the only CEV person among them. I’ll have to wait and see what this round will do to me without the antivirals. Already feeling weak, fatigued and with sore throat/runny nose & headache.

I can’t believe people go into work feeling this ill or don’t care what they’re passing around to others.

LetsPlayShadowlands · 15/10/2022 17:52

Don't know, don't test. We've had coughs, temperatures. Stayed off work/home from school if feeling unwell or had a fever. Otherwise been out if we feel OK. Covid or not, no idea.

1FootInTheRave · 15/10/2022 18:05

I would but I have no tests anyway so probably wouldn't know.

I work in a hospital and pretty sure we have to stay off with a positive result, however, this now counts towards sickness recording and possible disciplinary actions so I imagine a lot won't test anyway.

We both tested positive a couple of weeks ago. My husband was off out on the day he tested positive to a local supermarket. I told him I thought it was unacceptable and he stayed home until he was clear.

wetotter · 15/10/2022 16:33

I went out only for toilet walks for the dog. At odd times of day, in places where it was easy to keep away from people and wearing a mask

Yes I did exactly the same.

RewildingAmbridge · 15/10/2022 18:14

I'm MOJ, we are not allowed in if we test positive, if we feel well enough we can WFH, if not we are fully off. We still have to have two consecutive negatives to go back

CirreltheSquirrel · 15/10/2022 18:15

I worked from home and didn't go anywhere inside until I was past day 5 (and even then it was nipping into a shop for a couple of minutes with a mask rather than lingering). I did go out for walks once I felt well enough.

YankeeDad · 15/10/2022 18:23

If you are able to self isolate, then do so as you may enable some other people to avoid getting it.

5 days from the first positive test is helpful, but a high share of people are still infectious for longer. 10 days from the first positive test is enough for a huge majority of people to stop being infectious, even if they stop testing positive. It is obviously fantastic if you can self isolate until you test negative even if it takes longer, but you will be doing 90%+ of the good to others if you self isolate for 10 days from and including the day of the first positive test.

Jalepenojello · 15/10/2022 18:27

If I knew I had it I wouldn’t socialise at all and only shop once for essentials with a mask at a quiet time. I WFH

Waitingaround · 15/10/2022 18:28

English NHS to stay at home until 2 negative tests or after day 10. You can however work from home if fit to do so and there is work that you can do.

the poster who said that nurses are told to work clinically if they have covid is wrong. This is not NHS policy

@Thrownunderabus thank Christ! Ds2 is in the Children's Hospital right now he needs covid right now like a hole on the head. I mean, it's obviously always a risk but why gamble with patients that are already very ill?

TonTonMacoute · 15/10/2022 18:50

Crazykefir · 15/10/2022 16:39

Oops. I avoided going out and wore a mask if I needed too.

We did this too.

I've still got a cough so I still wear a mask when out shopping.
