Are people still isolating with covid?

We Both stayed off work. Neither of us feel well at all. In laws shopped for us. I think we don’t venture out till test negative. Are we being over cautious?

I also assume that people who are wearing masks are covid positive or CEV so avoid both if possible

XenoBitch · 15/10/2022 19:02

I did for the first 5 days, and then continued as normal after. I was only unwell for the first day, so was not bed ridden and feeling too poorly to get out anyway.

A lot of people are isolating anyway as they just feel too rank to go to work, shops etc.

Regarding the rules about NHS staff... my local trust wants you to go to work if well enough. If you don't go in, it counts as sickness absence.

Imayfeelbetter · 15/10/2022 19:40

Vulnerable DH caught Covid a couple of weeks ago, then I came down with it. We stayed home (as we pretty much have for 2.5 years). We had an online shop and a friend got us some medication.
we know people with primary school children, all been told by the school not to test, go to school, get on with it, so no wonders it’s on the rise.
someone else I know went away to a spa knowing they had it too.
some friends say isolate, other say get on with it and if you’re worried wear a mask.
I have no idea what is the right thing to do and it seems that people do what they think it’s right for them and blow the consequences.

id had my booster, took eight days to go negative and I feel totally wiped out by 11am so far every day, friend said it took six weeks to feel better.

Well some people never isolated with covid.

If you don’t want to spread it or feel ill then stay at home, legally you don’t have to.

Brogues · 15/10/2022 20:21

I’ve been testing positive all week. I’ve been sleeping in a different room and minimising contact with my family and only been out for the school run (with mask on). I can WFH anyway but wasn’t up to it for most of the week. DH has also been testing so he doesn’t take it to work but he knows some people just aren’t testing and going in anyway.

Beezknees · 15/10/2022 20:23

Nah. I had it in July and didn't isolate.

VampireCat · 15/10/2022 20:23

We’ve had two people come in on day 6/7 still really unwell because HR said they had to be back. Were sent home sharpish because the rest of us don’t want it and they weren’t well enough to work. Should be about whether you’re well enough to work as well as whether or not you’re still contagious esp if you’re in contact with vulnerable people. Covid is very far from over.

I had covid 6 weeks ago and I just tested positive again today. I previously received treatment as I’m CEV but because it’s so close to the last time they won’t give me treatment again. People are coming in to work with “just a bad cold” every day. Clearly one of them didn’t have just a bad cold. Nobody is bothering with protecting those around them and I’m not the only CEV person among them. I’ll have to wait and see what this round will do to me without the antivirals. Already feeling weak, fatigued and with sore throat/runny nose & headache.

I can’t believe people go into work feeling this ill or don’t care what they’re passing around to others.

As you can see from this thread there are lots of selfish people who aren’t testing and don’t care if they kill someone else by infecting them as long as it doesn't inconvenience them.

reigatecastle · 15/10/2022 20:30

Where DH works they said 5 days and then two negative tests. I don't actually know what my employer's policy is as I WFH anyway but my boss had it and talked about isolating for 5 days. DH didn't go out anywhere until today (day 9).

grayhairdontcare · 15/10/2022 20:42

@VampireCat my employer doesn't pay me to be off with covid.
We can't work from home either.
I'm not staying in because I legally don't have too and can't afford to.
If you are that arsed then you stay in!

Notanotherwindow · 15/10/2022 20:42

Not over cautious at all. You're just not selfish tossers. Shame more people aren't that sensible.

BCBird · 15/10/2022 20:43

I think you are neu g sensible and responsible. I do know that sime people don't have the option to stay at home
I.have managed to avoid it so far by only meeting up with friends when we test. I also wear a mask most of the times ar work . I can't understand how we have gine from restrictions to none. Madness. I hope you are back on your feet soon.

I work in a school, I’m exposed to over a thousand people per day, I can’t stay in because shielding has finished so I don’t get paid if I’m not there. If you’ve got covid you stay at home because you have some sort of compassion for those who are more medically vulnerable and you might kill if you go out.

grayhairdontcare · 15/10/2022 20:45

@VampireCat I also work in a school and the policy is that unless you are exceptionally ill you must go in!

If you work in a school and you know that you’re exposing vulnerable people by being in work and you chose to go in anyway you shouldn’t be anywhere near children.

Discovereads · 15/10/2022 20:47

I isolated. I just had it from 2 October to 11 October. I isolated in my bedroom and used family bathroom. DH and DD used downstairs WC and shower room. DH brought me food and lots and lots of liquids & paracetamol. Oh, and six boxes of tissues. Didn’t want to pass it on to DH or DD.

grayhairdontcare · 15/10/2022 20:50

@VampireCat if you are so emotionally unstable about an employee following their employers guidelines around a virus that no longer requires legal isolation.
Then I suggest you should not be around anyone and should seriously go see someone about that .
Bless your cotton socks

That is not fair.

There are NHS staff being told that if they have Covid and feel well enough, they can go to work.
If they don't, the sickness is counted. I know several NHS staff facing disciplinaries now for sickness. If they keep having time off for Covid, they could end up being sacked.

Not emotionally unstable just likely to die if exposed to covid. Me and all the other medically vulnerable children in our school. So I’d question the morals of anyone who chooses to expose me and many vulnerable children to a lethal virus knowingly and happily.

Clinical, patient facing staff, or admin/managerial staff?

Clinical staff at my daughters hospital trust are absolutely not allowed back without two negative tests. If any trust was telling Covid positive clinical staff to come in to work, I've no doubt that it would be all over the media.

So have a meeting with your boss and say you aren’t going to expose vulnerable patients to a lethal virus like all the other nhs employees I know!

I work in a supermarket (one of the big four) and we are not allowed to stay off apparently. If we feel fine then positive or not we have to come in. Been
like that for a while.

Not the same one as me. I was told to stay off for a minimum of 5 days, maximum of 10 (unless I got a sick line for longer). This was two months ago

grayhairdontcare · 15/10/2022 20:56

Then why are you leaving the house?
People in supermarkets are working with covid
People in hospitals are.
No one has to legally isolate.
Get a grip or stay in.
I won't be loosing my job because some stranger on line wants me to isolate.
Your bat shit if you think anyone would loose their job over it!

They tried. GP was happy to sign them off... but they have ended up on the sickness track that the NHS uses.

I do not agree with it BTW, but it is happening.
