Just that really. I've only ever eaten sweet yoghurt you get from supermarkets. But never plain.

Almost daily .....overnight oats, with fruit, marinade chicken in it

What a disgusting sounding recipe!

Sprig1 · 13/10/2022 13:24

What are you all using yoghurt for in cooking? I would love some new recipes. I think I only have 1 that uses yoghurt?

Rarely or never because I'm not a martyr

The competitive yogurt eating on this site is so great. It’s usually “my kids never even want a pudding, just some plain yoghurt does them” . Someone describing flavoured yoghurt on this thread as “horrific” is mumsnet premium.

I eat it every day with fruit for breakfast. But it has to be LIVE plain yoghurt - better taste and better for you. Don't much care if it's non fat or full fat. It's all about the bacteria!

What a disgusting sounding recipe!

It's delicious. It tenderizes the meat.

miceonabranch · 13/10/2022 13:35

Every morning for breakfast.

Spanielsarepainless · 13/10/2022 13:37

Every morning, full fat Greek yoghurt.

megletthesecond · 13/10/2022 13:39

Most days, dolloped on overnight oats.

AdelaideRo · 13/10/2022 13:44

Regularly. I buy big pots of plain for home and eat it with fruit or granola.

i take flavoured individual pots to work as part of my lunch.

CirreltheSquirrel · 13/10/2022 13:45

Every day, always with something rather than just plain. I used to buy flavoured but now have plain with real fruit instead.

AnElegantChaos · 13/10/2022 13:54

Used to only eat flavoured/sweet yoghurt but only eat plain now, with fruit added, and can't imagine going back to sweet yoghurts again. I use it in cooking quite a lot especially curries if it's too spicy for kids, or for coleslaw, so half and half mayo/yoghurt.

Eat a lot of Skyr too though strictly speaking this isn't yoghurt, but higher protein than Greek yoghurt. If you're not sure about making the jump yet, massively recommend trying Isey Baked Apple Skyr - high protein and very low cal!

I think she was joking about having chicken in the breakfast cereal

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 13/10/2022 14:01

Most days of the week, but I usually add a few raspberries to it, and sometimes some cinnamon and a few walnuts. So I guess it's not really plain by then!

prescribingmum · 13/10/2022 14:06

Daily if not more often. We are South Asian and it is really common to have yoghurt with many traditional meals. It increases the protein content of our meals too (otherwise veggie diet).

We have combination of shop bought greek yoghurt and home made natural yoghurt (like a PP, I make at least 4pint milk worth each week).

Also like a PP, I was horrified when I discovered the quantity of sugar in flavoured yoghurts - they don't even taste that great imo! I would much rather indulge in chocolate or ice cream

Why would eating something I enjoy make me a martyr? Surely I’d be a martyr if I didn’t eat it even though I like it? I’m confused 😂

JemimaTab · 13/10/2022 14:22

I often have plain yoghurt for breakfast - either natural or Greek, with a bit of fruit or granola on top. I sometimes make fruit lassi with it too which is delicious.
I absolutely hated plain yoghurt as a child (too sour, I guess), but love it now.
(I do still eat fruit yoghurts too sometimes).
OP - why do you ask?

Ha! Yes I suspect these are also people who allow themselves one oatcake every now and then as a special treat

Rosehugger · 13/10/2022 16:40

I don't like flavoured yogurt, most of it tastes so sweet and processed. Though brands like Longley Farm are still very good. If I'm going to have something sugary I'd rather do it properly and have chocolate.

Plain yogurt is something I have a thing for now and then. Mostly blobbed on top of savoury food. I was a weirdo who liked natural yogurt as a kid too.

user53852098 · 13/10/2022 16:47

Manor farm yoghurt is the best of the lot, plain and flavoured, its quite difficult to get though.

Bluevelvetsofa · 13/10/2022 17:01

Several times a week, with berries, flaked almonds and a drizzle of honey.

faffadoodledo · 13/10/2022 17:26

My mum (in the 70s) used to make her own yoghurt. I loved the tart tanginess of it. Sometimes i'd blob some jam into it. Ski was the only commercial brand available and it was just so bland in comparison.
I guess the habit has lived on with me - tho I don't make my own.
If I want a sweet treat I'll have cake or chocolate. But live, plain yoghurt is proper food imo - good for you and satisfying.

fussychica · 13/10/2022 17:51

More or less daily, on fruit and muesli/granola for breakfast. Like set yoghurt the best.
I tend to cook with creme fraiche rather than yoghurt

Chuckiegg · 13/10/2022 22:00

A few times a week. Full fat Greek style with blueberries and a bit of honey.

PickAChew · 13/10/2022 22:03

Rarely. Dairy and I don't get along all that well.
