Obviously - so over used currently and is never used as it is intended.

Narrative
Stated
Purchased

In general I have no issue with those last three words at all.
However, there is a certain group of people who seem to have discovered them in last 3-5 years and over use them and do so with a knowing, wry smile as if to say they are more intelligent.
Half the time they sound ridiculous too. "I just spoke to Jean and she stated she wanted fish fingers for dinner."

stitchinguru · 13/10/2022 07:59

Oh and ‘you do you’…..

gretr · 13/10/2022 08:00

Veggies. Even typing it made me cringe.

Gob or gobby (horrible words)
Minge
Tatties
Hubby (this one a million times over, it's pathetic, I do judge grown women who use this word. What's wrong with husband or his name?

justhadit · 13/10/2022 08:28

Ickle as in ickle babba. Makes me want to vomit.

justhadit · 13/10/2022 08:29

Oh and journey. If it doesn’t involve travelling from one place to another it’s not a journey.

StrawberryPot · 13/10/2022 08:30

Grind and gears when used together

Furbaby

Hun

FayeGovan · 13/10/2022 08:30

Whatevergetsyouthroughthenight · 13/10/2022 08:33

Like, I dunno, like.

Babyroobs · 13/10/2022 08:37

Can't stand the word belly. Just seems so common. When people say "as long as my kids have food in their bellies ".
Also can't stand the phrase " beautiful inside and out".

MermaidMummy06 · 13/10/2022 08:41

I never say anything because I know it's a not unreasonable, but...

I can't stand when the wrong context of a word is used. It's 'break' not 'brake' and 'losing' not 'loosing' etc.

irregardless - not even a word
Journey
C* word
Youse - (maybe an Australian thing? Means you people.)
That's life - belittling when I'm really down about something)

Youse is commonly used in Scotland although I don’t know how it’s spelt. I’ve seen ‘yews’ 🐑

Badoukas · 13/10/2022 08:54

Hubby
Panties
Tummy
Fork supper

Dinoteeth · 13/10/2022 09:01

Who actually uses the word panties?
What is a fork supper?

Frogsalad · 13/10/2022 09:02

Little'un.

Nowadays

Wanting - e.g. "I'm wanting a new handbag". Why do you just say "I want a new handbag". I get irrationally irritate by this.

bitachey · 13/10/2022 09:05

Artisan
curate
furbaby

QueenieL1 · 13/10/2022 09:06

'Gotten'. I hate it, I know it's only a word but can't understand how adults who have grown up in England/ the UK and spent their lives saying 'got', are now using this instead?

Jostly · 13/10/2022 09:06

Broody
Horrid

Melanie
Lisa
simon
anthony

note, I know you asked about words, not names per se, and the names are linked with perfectly ok people, it’s just that lisa at school always had ear wax, so now lisa= ear wax in my mind. Simon=snivelly. Melanie =melons and lemons (both of which I like, bizarre). Anthony=ants nest.

the names are all young childhood associations. “Broody” makes me puke.

QueenieL1 · 13/10/2022 09:08

It's really fake and affected I think, like someone assuming a different accent.

concernedalot · 13/10/2022 09:12

Yummy, holibobs, lush, so (when starting every sentence), furbaby, hubby, beautiful couple, 'I did a thing', 'this one' when referring to a person, namaste, sic to name a few

QueenieL1 · 13/10/2022 09:14

'Grinds my gears' is awful too, my 14 year old YouTube addict son says this.

Andante57 · 13/10/2022 09:20

Hearty - as in hearty food what does that actually mean?

I agree. Also describing food as ‘honest’.
Reaching out is another expression I don’t like. What’s wrong with getting in touch?

QueenieL1 · 13/10/2022 09:23

Reach out sounds ridiculous really, like the Four Tops song says, you reach out if you're lonely, sad, need comfort.. not contacting your energy supplier to discuss a bill query.
