What would you have done? Street compliment

Today as I was on a crosswalk into the grocery store, a man waiting at the crosswalk in his truck leaned out and shouted "you look really nice today!"

Would you have:
a. Acknowledged compliment with a smile/wave/verbal comment like "thanks!"
b. Ignored him and continued walking in the store
c. Approached him and given him your number
d. Rude hand gesture

I'll let you know what I did/what happened next after some responses!

A if I thought it was genuinely meant and he wasn't a wanker sniggering with his mates. B if he was clearly taking the piss and I really wasn't in the mood.
I'm fat though so constantly expecting public ridicule from men.

Vitamm · 12/10/2022 19:23

B

ZuzuSusu · 12/10/2022 19:24

It was a stranger

I’m female but I complement people (both sex’s)on how they look. There’s a vast difference between “you look nice” and “nice tits” or something similar.

Nizanb · 12/10/2022 19:26

A or B depending on mood

SpanishSteps123Ole · 12/10/2022 19:26

nice TODAY? So this is someone who sees me everyday? Someone I know?
If I knew him and knew he wasn't taking the piss and certain it was a compliment for me then A
If I didn't know him and not sure if it was about me or felt he was taking the piss it's B.
I don't confront men with gestures or such because you never know how it might escalate ... some people are really crazy so I just ignore and carry on.
One blessing of getting older and fatter is that these harassments and 'compliments' are no longer a daily occurrence. They made me so self conscious instead of happy.

StopFeckingFaffing · 12/10/2022 19:27

A. B. or D. depending whether I thought it was a genuine compliment or a lairy heckle, would also probably depend on my mood too!

RichardMarxisinnocent · 12/10/2022 19:27

Probably B. I'm not at all attractive, have resting bitch face and don't dress at all stylishly so it would either be sarcasm or aimed at someone else. I'd also feel a bit creeped out /uncomfortable at a complete stranger commenting on my appearance. Very happy to accept complements from friends and family but strangers feels different.

BasiliskStare · 12/10/2022 19:28

if it sounded like said with good will , A

Lovinglifeand · 12/10/2022 19:28

A

ZuzuSusu · 12/10/2022 19:30

Said with apparent goodwill

SpanishSteps123Ole · 12/10/2022 19:31

OK so a stranger said it with good will, I would smile if I'm certain it was for me and if I was in a good mood or ignore it if I'm not in the mood.

Itsfallingwithstyle · 12/10/2022 19:32

Knowing that I do not look nice on most days I would assume a piss take and ignore.

BettyOBarley · 12/10/2022 19:33

A if said with goodwill

HariboReckoning · 12/10/2022 19:35

I am capable of any of those responses, depending on my mood and caffeine intake 😁

UnagiForLife · 12/10/2022 19:36

Probably B as I wouldn’t think it was directed at me, or I’d pretend I didn’t because I’d be so embarrassed.

lljkk · 12/10/2022 19:37

When I was young straight to quite rude response.
Now I'd ignore. or smile-frown.

hugefanofcheese · 12/10/2022 19:40

A if he just said it pleasantly and moved on. It's a simple compliment that could be given to or by anyone. If it was meant an opening gambit then I'd carry on walking.

Firecarrier · 12/10/2022 19:42

A

RoseslnTheHospital · 12/10/2022 19:42

B because I don't care what some random man thinks I look like today. Plus it's intrusive of him to just shout stuff at women.

Izzywhizzyisverybusy · 12/10/2022 19:44

B

ThatGirlInACountrySong · 12/10/2022 19:45

A.

But go on.....what did you say?

ThatGirlInACountrySong · 12/10/2022 19:47

@ZuzuSusu

Are you in the U.K.

PeekAtYou · 12/10/2022 19:48

B could be a dare or an attempt to get attention so I would ignore.
Surely C only happens on tv and in movies?

Lesserspotteddogfish · 12/10/2022 19:49

I’m guessing you went for option B and then he got nasty that you had the cheek to ignore him.
