How often do you leave your house?

Just that really, including to run errands etc...

Usually about 4 times a day: school run, dog walk, school run, DD's gymnastics training

stealthsquirrelnutkin · 09/10/2022 18:11

Once every 6 weeks or so. Only for medical appointments.

MinglingFlamingo · 09/10/2022 18:13

Every day work, walk the dog, go shopping, see friends. Unless I have nothing on and I have all that I need and the dog is otherwise engaged

ColinRobinsonsfamiliar · 09/10/2022 18:16

Nope.
As little as possible.
I can go for a week or so without leaving my house.
WFH, dh does all school runs and activities.

I do travel with work a fair bit though.

Out of choice, I would not go anywhere.

coldcaff · 09/10/2022 18:21

Pretty much every day. I work 4 days a week then on my day off I still take DD to school. Food shop, days out etc at the weekend. It's rare that I stay in all day unless I'm not well.

Again, why?

ATwirlADay · 09/10/2022 18:27

I would feel pretty stir-crazy if I hadn't been out all day - the only time I might not do this is in really bad weather.

ColinRobinsonsfamiliar · 09/10/2022 18:29

I love being home. I’ve been starved of it for years.

Ive just left a job where I would be out of the house for 14-16 hours a day working 50-60 hour weeks.
So being home on the occasions that I was home felt like luxurious peaceful calmness.

Unless visiting very close friends or one or two family members, I prefer to be home.

movingsky · 09/10/2022 18:37

Most days. If I WFH all day I go for a swim in the evenings to get out of the house. Otherwise I go to work, do a hobby or meet friends.

I like a down day at home after a busy week if possible, I haven’t left the house today, did some gardening, cooking, jobs around the house, read my book and listened to music. I’m a bit bored now though tbh but next week is hectic and I’m working til 8pm tomorrow so I’m making myself have a day off exercising otherwise I’d go for a swim now.

Onandgrowing · 09/10/2022 19:38

Every day at least a couple of times. I work out of the home so that makes a difference plus the dc need taking all over the place. I can’t think of the last day I didn’t leave the house at all - maybe a couple of times in covid lockdown?

Fuwari · 09/10/2022 20:41

I find it funny how some people can't fathom why others are happy to stay home. I've done all the "out of the house' stuff for years. 90% was just a chore and a bind. When I go on holiday I choose somewhere with plenty to see and do, off exploring somewhere new every day. Lying on a beach all day long is my idea of hell. But hey I can understand why it might suit other people.

So why is it so weird to think others might want their free time to relax in their own home? If I have somewhere truly interesting to go, then I will go. But otherwise no I'm really not bothered about doing something not that fun, which inevitably usually costs money. For what reason? To get out of the house? I love my house, I don't need to "escape" it.

I personally spend a lot of time at home because for one I enjoy it and secondly, with somewhat limited funds, I would rather save up to go away and see something new rather than spend it in my own area doing the same old stuff.

PeloFondo · 09/10/2022 20:48

@Fuwari I get that. A lot of people were so "but I can't stay in my house" within 1 days of lockdown
I spent a lot of money to get my home, and it's my HOME! I want to be in it, and I made it somewhere nice to be. I get if you are in a living situation you don't want to be in but otherwise..
spent 2 years here shielding and I still love it. All my stuff is here Grin

MumbleCrumbs · 09/10/2022 20:55

I'm disabled so find getting out and about such a painful ball ache. I force myself for the sake of the kids (DH does the school runs as he works from home) but I could genuinely spend every day in my house and not get sick of it. The outside world is overrated if you ask me Grin. I hope one day to retire from society at large and become a full hermit.

Arbesque · 09/10/2022 21:01

I can't stand being in the house all day. My sister could happily mooch around all day and not go out. We're all different I suppose.

Today I was at Church and then at a meet up.in a hotel with neighbours to discuss an issue that needs sorting.

This afternoon I met up with a couple of friends for coffee and then went to a nearby shopping centre to get a few things. Home by 4.30 and happy to stay in after that.

EmmaC78 · 09/10/2022 21:05

Every day. If I am working in the office I tend to do that plus go to a gym class or something on the way home. On the days I am WFH I try to go for a run or a class. I have a horse so that pretty much puts a stop to staying in the house all day unless I am ill.

WeeblesWibbleWobble · 09/10/2022 21:07

Min 3x a day. School run am. Midday. Pm

Then add after school activities
Shopping which lately seems to be daily!

Plus popping to family, friends, xmas shopping.

Sometimes can be 6 or 7 times

lljkk · 09/10/2022 21:09

I am an anti-homebody. I feel trapped if I'm too long at home in waking hours. I'd only come home to sleep, organise my stuff & rest if I could ... I'd be outside (in the outdoors) 8-12 hours/day if weather allowed.

Once or twice a year I might not go out all day, only because the weather is awful or I'm very ill or exhausted/jetlag. I have zero nesting instincts. Or interest in home decor.

Even in peak Lockdown periods I'd be out twice a day, typically. More often if I could find the excuse.

megletthesecond · 09/10/2022 21:10

Every day. Even when WFH and in the pandemic.
I'd go mental looking at this crappy estate all day long. So I go for a run / errands to look at our crappy town instead.

MassiveSalad22 · 09/10/2022 21:11

2x a day usually at least - school runs. I do like a homey day with the baby but school run is a must sadly!

lljkk · 09/10/2022 21:12

Thanks for the candid post @MrsMcGintysLodger

CirreltheSquirrel · 09/10/2022 21:14

Most days, but usually only once a day as I try to get everything done on one trip out.

Woolandwonder · 09/10/2022 21:20

Ideally I like to go out every day but wfh and have a chronic illness so often spend a lot of time in bed, so not uncommon to go a few days without going out. If I'm wellish I make an effort to try and pop out everyday even if it's just to the corner shop.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/10/2022 21:23

Weekdays - Daily to do the school runs (walk), then maybe one evening for something. I wfh.

Weekends - both days for something. Day out/food shop etc. Once a month I'll have a weekend day I don't leave the house at all.

qpmz · 09/10/2022 21:52

Minimum twice. Would go mad without the exercise and fresh air.

qpmz · 09/10/2022 21:57

Phos · 09/10/2022 15:45

I WFH. During the week all I do is the school run. I don't have time to do other stuff as I'm working then in the evenings, I'm looking after DD whilst DH does his running, gym sessions, goes out for dinner with his parents etc.

At weekends, I try to get out both days but it doesn't always work out, particularly if DD is being a challenge.

It's depressing but it is what it is.

I hope you do gym sessions etc. sometimes while your husband has DD. Why should it be only him that gets leisure time?
