Anyone know why he's been sacked?

MandyMotherOfBrian · 07/10/2022 22:38

Wut?
Possibly most unexpected twist ever.

Confrontayshunme · 07/10/2022 22:39

He made my weekend, that's what he did. He is a horrible MP for our constituency, and now he will hopefully get replaced or ideally, voted out (though another Tory would win).

They could stand a turnip as a tory I'm BCP and they would get voted in. It pisses me off so much. Symes is the same slimy, lazy, nasty bastard as well.

VladmirsPoutine · 07/10/2022 22:53

Whatever he did must have been caught in 4k. Absolutely no way to deny or subterfuge it. There must be a recording.

That guy they name is my sisters school friend. This day has been...odd.

I wish people would stop sharing the unredacted version of this. Several possible victims of sexual crimes are identified by name and they shouldn't be.

In your rush to gossip about Tory MPs, don't forget about possible victims and their rights.

Kwasi Kwarteng gets around doesn't he! 😩

OMG Liz Truss and Amber Rudd?!

LikeTearsInRain · 08/10/2022 00:24

Could he have been the one who organised Holly and Phil’s queue jump?

CavaggiosCat · 08/10/2022 00:26

Erm....I still don't know what he said to MelB?...anyone?

Kennykenkencat · 08/10/2022 01:08

Probably came up with a way out of this financial mess

Liz wasn’t happy

caringcarer · 08/10/2022 01:56

This is just wild guess but could he have got those passes for the 2 protesters? Someone had to give them to them.

EstellaRijnveld · 08/10/2022 03:37

Probably something of a racist and sexist nature.

SpidersAreShitheads · 08/10/2022 03:42

According to the Time headline, it seems to be for groping? It's behind a paywall though so I can't read the full thing:

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/tory-mp-conor-burns-suspended-after-complaint-over-his-behaviour-at-party-conference-kb5vwq39k

But a quick google tells me he's a gay man who's out and proud, so I'm assuming whatever he said to Mel B in a lift wasn't lecherous, which had been my initial assumption. God only knows what that's about...!

InTheFourthAtMalloryTowers · 08/10/2022 03:59

Totally irrelevant but knew him when he was a teenager.

He has not aged terribly well.

NumptiesIncorporated · 08/10/2022 04:57

lljkk · 07/10/2022 22:11

"they know he's guilty" is direct contradiction to principle of Innocent Until Proven Guilty. Suspension is reputation protection, nothing to do with what "they know". Break with Johnson era of brazening every scandal out.

You can't think that it's impossible to know that someone is guilty until they've been through a trial?

Victims know that the person is guilty. Witnesses know that the person is guilty. Innocent until proven guilty is not relevant to them. It's relevant for court proceedings. And just because someone might be found innocent, it doesn't mean they actually are. It might just mean the evidence was not strong enough.

fatgirlslimmer · 08/10/2022 05:22

Why would you assume that a gay man couldn't be, or say, lecherous things to a woman?

He does. Although he doesn't seem to be listed as an entry on the spreadsheet in his own right. Or is there a page 2?

If the current polls are anywhere near accurate, your wish might just be granted!

He sounds like a thoroughly unpleasant individual, even by Tory standards.

Ducksinthebath · 08/10/2022 07:20

Why is everyone shagging Kwasi Kwarteng? Is he blackmailing them?

I’m disappointed Rory Stewart is on the list but I notice it’s “odd” things not sexual things. Like stand on a book about the Transit of Venus; face east until the cock crows twice then rotate twice. Or odd as in stapler up the bum?

Insertdeadcatsnamehere · 08/10/2022 07:30

urgen · 07/10/2022 22:32

Company conferences are similar. I worked for a FTSE company and the annual sales conference was rife with this sort of thing. People getting horribly drunk, sexual shenigans and a couple of fights from memory.

It all sounds a bit like the Christmas parties at the call centre I used to work at to be honest. Grim.

AutumnCrow · 08/10/2022 07:37

The Daily Mail and the Mirror are running stories this morning. Their journalists at the conference and freelancers will probably have been talking to potential witnesses / gossipy Tory activists all night.

The allegations seemingly centre on lechery towards a younger male at the bar (at the conference). Apparently there is a witness report that is being taken extremely seriously at the top. Has to be doesn’t it, given the circumstances of Johnson’s departure?

Allegedly saying something ‘off’ to Mel B in a lift is a separate incident, but at the same conference. (Mel B was at the conference to talk about domestic violence.)

I think (and hope) this man has finally reached the end of his political nine lives.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11291965/Former-minister-Conor-Burns-Tory-whip-suspended-amid-complaints-behaviour.html

Not very illuminating, and most of the comments BTL are faintly embarrssingly crap, but it does raise the issue of what goes on at these conferences.

The Lib Dems ones are notorious. One can only imagine how grim the Tory ones are. It's about the time the lid was lifted about what happens at these conferences when a large group of predominantly male people with power over juniors are put in a pressure-cooker environment for three days with those same juniors, and alcohol and adrenalin flow, and hotel rooms are just a stone's throw away for the men willing to offer favours and favouritism to their new favourites.

Sometimes power corrupts in the stupidest, smallest, most venal of ways.

Your description sounds like most office parties too.
Anyhow good to see Truss putting a lid on things and doing what needs to be done.

Kissingfrogs25 · 08/10/2022 07:58

It was alleged he assaulted a younger man at the conference evening drinks at the Hilton, there were multiple witnesses. I hope his political career is over now. We need to see an end to this culture. The drinking needs to stop.

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 08/10/2022 08:08

Didn't see the Mel B comment coming...
