What was your nicest commute to work?

I used to cycle through rice fields, get a rickety old tram, then walk through a bonsai nursery. Took 40 minutes. japan.

current commute is a 30 minute walk along a seafront….lovely in the summer. Bit challenging in a gale.

Whatever job I had that allowed me walking to the office made me much happier. Once the walk allowed me to pass well maintained gardens and it was heaven ( unlike the job...)

Yes to driving on the sea front every day seeing the sea in all of its moods but especially in summer with the happy families enjoying the blue skies and paddling.

Now I have started a new job. My commute in my lovely company car to meet my boss at a cafe through countryside just because we are fed up with TEAMs.

I used to work a 2 minute walk across the road from work. I’d pop back for lunch most days and enjoy some peace and quiet. It was lovely!

Cycling through Ascot racecourse!

AprilShowers23 · 06/10/2022 07:37

A train through North Yorkshire. It was so pretty looking out the window at the hills and sheep.

Positivelypatient · 06/10/2022 07:39

Up the stairs with coffee in hand to the spare room-come-office when I was WFH during the pandemic!

BitOutOfPractice · 06/10/2022 07:39

I walk to work. It takes 10 minutes through a lovely, well maintained park, along a river with swans. It makes’e feel lucky every day.

There's a stretch heading to Bognor, a road called Long Furlong. It's 60 mph and winding, so fun in the car, and during harvest when the fields are yellow and full of bales, it's beautiful.

Obviously there are others but for me that's a highlight recently :)

I used to walk through central London which was great - walking through quiet streets, keeping fit and saved a fortune on travel.

Also I once had a job where I could cycle to work along the seafront.

BarrelOfOtters · 06/10/2022 07:42

My alternative route takes me through houses with a good gander at the front gardens.

used to walk through the Meadows in Winchester as a commute too. And once a week drive through ancient chalk down lands.

Walk along the river, short cut through walled gardens and then short cut through the cathedral gardens and around the cathedral

Redundantmum22 · 06/10/2022 07:43

I used to live near a beautiful business park. They were heritage barns that were converted into offices but beautifully and carefully done.

I lived on the same street. All the houses were made of the same "stone" and dated back to the 13th and 14th century.

I used to skip to work on sunny days, and slide down the hill on snowy days. And make a dash for it on rainy days.

I was young at the time and didn't appreciate its beauty, the role or my house. I left to live in the nearby city for fun and 16 years later - my biggest regret!

The sheer history of the place never interested me. Now I find it fascinating!

BarrelOfOtters · 06/10/2022 07:43

It’s so lovely having a nice commute, walking in to work makes me a nicer person when I get there.

Driving through Cannock Chase- particularly in Autumn

AlexandraJJ · 06/10/2022 07:45

I used to like driving to the Keswick office in Autumn, mist over the water and the colour of the leaves.

whenwillthemadnessend · 06/10/2022 07:46

These all sound amazing.

Mine is the M1 instead of the A1

Lol

But I only do it once a week.

Vampirethriller · 06/10/2022 07:47

Years and years ago I used to work for the National Trust and got to live in the property, and walked to work through a beautiful 16th century orchard and formal garden, it was lovely. Job was awful but I did like living there!

DelilahBucket · 06/10/2022 07:47

I would have once said the walk up two flights of stairs to me work room once upon a time, but since I moved into offices that are a three minute walk from home, it's that. I'm so much more productive out of home and I get a quick walk most lunchtimes.

RosieRoww · 06/10/2022 07:47

Cycling around the lake and through forest in the early morning, lovely.

MarshaBradyo · 06/10/2022 07:48

Ten minute overground was easiest

But best was probably running commute through London

OnTheBrinkOfChange · 06/10/2022 07:49

I used to walk along the river front and catch the ferry across to Liverpool in the early morning. That was really lovely.

I also used to live on Tottenham Court Road and worked for a while at Euston and I would walk through the back streets behind Tottenham Court road to get to work. I loved that.

Brieeeeeeeee · 06/10/2022 07:51

I used to have a five mile cycle that was mostly on a cycle path. The first mile was a busy-ish road but if I left early enough it was quieter.

Pre maternity leave I had a 20 minute walk, then a 15 minute train journey. Perfect for getting my steps in and listening to the radio or a podcast. I now take DS to nursery and get on the bus from there, but it’s packed and slow and rubbish 🫤

Whichwhatnow · 06/10/2022 07:52

Nicest - 15 min cycle along a beautiful canal path in Surrey. I started early (out of choice) so nobody else was ever around.

Most fun - I was living with several friends in Holland and four of us ended up working the same job. It was about 10 km cycle away along canals and tulip fields and we'd take it easy, chat, laugh, sing cheesy songs together etc 😄. Was a great start (and end!) to the day - made up for the job itself which was crappy warehouse work.

Easiest - now. Two steps from my bed to desk.

When I lived in Centre city Philadelphia and walked through Rittenhouse sq every day to the office. Bliss

ShadowPuppets · 06/10/2022 07:55

When I first moved to London I lived in Earlsfield and worked in Wimbledon. Didn’t start work until 10 - I could get out of bed at 9.40, make the 9.48 and be at my desk for 10. The literal dream as I was 21 and out until 4am most nights!
