I used to cycle through rice fields, get a rickety old tram, then walk through a bonsai nursery. Took 40 minutes. japan.

current commute is a 30 minute walk along a seafront….lovely in the summer. Bit challenging in a gale.

Any commute that does not involve driving is fine by me. Driving is the pits, cars are shit, traffic is shit, sitting in fumes is shit.

Currently I walk, I'm happy with that.

My best commute was when my journey was walk-rural train-walk, it was super pretty all the way.

The site office was Stone cottage in the middle of a national trust site.

I briefly used to catch the train across Sydney harbour bridge, amazing views almost made up for the horrible job.

I was a Nanny in Sydney for a couple of weeks. My main job was walking their tiny dog along the cliffs along the coast from Sydney city centre, it was amazing.

We've had a lovely walk to primary school the last few years through the woods, it's been beautiful and often soggy and we've met a lot of enthusiastic dogs! I miss it now we've moved.

Current one.5 mins walk away.

Driving out of Bristol!
I would use the iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge every day.

A 70 mile stretch of the NC500 and back again.

I couldn't ask for a more beautiful and ever changing landscape to accompany me. The scenery and light never looks the same twice, just bliss.

I quite like my current bed to desk commute.

When I drove in to Manchester City centre and walked a short distance past the museum and through a garden into shiny office blocks was a close second but I stopped it due to traffic and the tram isn't as nice.

I really enjoyed my lockdown ‘commute’. DH and I went for a half hour walk round the block before WFH each day. It was nice to get moving and to spend that time together. Theoretically we could still do it but it’s less appealing now that it’s busy outside again (inner city)

A cycle ride through jungle to a horse ranch in Guatemala. Listening to the sounds of the creatures shift from night-wakers to the daytime community was lovely, as was the regular encounter with a sloth family.

Also the climb from the galley up to the deck of a sailboat I crewed, coffee in hand. I used to love popping my head out and seeing where we were :)

I do quite like my current one, though – 2 minutes to my home office, slippers on, dog at my heels.

When I used to have to attend meetings in Leamington, driving through Kenilworth first thing in the morning and seeing the castle ruins lit up by the sunrise was always a highlight.
We hold the meetings in Birmingham now, not nearly as pretty!

AriettyHomily · 06/10/2022 08:10

Train into London which wasn't great but then walked from Victoria past Buckingham Palace and through Green Park, that was nice.

Mulledmead · 06/10/2022 08:14

Years ago I used to walk from my home between Hammersmith and Chiswick to Shepherds Bush. You could cut through Ravenscourt Park, then an area called Brackenbury village and it was just nice, quiet streets, nice houses. I was happy and healthy as I did so much walking. Makes me feel very nostalgic.

I would love a walking commute again, but my career requires lots of driving. I am lucky to live in a pleasant rural area now, so no traffic, but would always rather be out of the car though!

BarrelOfOtters · 06/10/2022 08:14

I used to drive over a small mountain to work; loved the changing views in the weather and different times of the year.

My current commute now... I have been in the same job for some time working in a community pharmacy and I live locally.

It used to take me 7 min to walk door to door. It now takes about 25 as everybody knows me and has a word on my way in. I pop the recycling bins back in the porch for a couple of older customers on the way up the road, drop off some prescriptions on the way home...

I think I live in the 1950s...

I used to work and live at a National Trust property on a sort of apprenticeship. I lived in the rooms above the stable block (which was visitor reception and shop) but after hours, I had the run of the place.

When it snowed once, no-one could get in through the roads so the 4 of us who lived on site checked it all over thrn went tobogganing down the big hill in the estate 😀

A view of Big Ben etc on the bus.

Walking through the Imperial War Museum Gardens.

Walking across Waterloo Bridge!

BumbledBee · 06/10/2022 08:17

I used to rent a studio flat in a beautiful building in the centre of Oxford. I walked from near Christchurch to Jericho, and chose to start early and finish early 8am-4pm. That was lovely.

Summerof22 · 06/10/2022 08:19

Walk along Central Park South into 5th Avenue, everyday I would pinch myself and think ‘you live in NY!!’

Fuwari · 06/10/2022 08:20

I’ve never had a nice commute, it’s always been buses, trains, tube. Always long, always crowded. Now I wfh it is bliss, bed to desk in 10 seconds. I do not miss commuting.

This one is an easy one to answer. Getting the ferry from my flat in Sydney into Circular Quay . Magical! Had to pinch myself every single time. The sunshine, warmth, beaches, boats just make you feel amazing. The worst was the Northern line with my face in someone's armpit.....

Decorativefire · 06/10/2022 08:22

Walking through Battersea park and through Belgravia to Sloane Street Tube - that was lovely.

Spanielsarepainless · 06/10/2022 08:23

Walking out of a fourteen bedroom Georgian house, across its vast garden, into 2500 acres of wetland nature reserve.

Alonglongway · 06/10/2022 08:25

The Thames Clipper to London Bridge - amazing views, always a seat, coffee shop on board, chilled atmosphere. Service very rarely disrupted - only when tides were super low or thick fog.

eggandonion · 06/10/2022 08:27

Walk along Kings Parade and Trinity Street in Cambridge. Past BBC outside broadcast vehicles on Christmas Eve for the Carol service in Kings.
