Are you still hanging your washing outside?

Even in the dull cold weather? I am...even though it's a bit of a bother...I do find it makes a difference...this time last year I would have shoved it in the dryer...

İ hang mine out all year, doesn't need to be warm but I live somewhere where it can be quite windy so that helps.

FourTeaFallOut · 03/10/2022 11:21

The weather here is 13c with humidity at 84%. Some clothes are on horse and others are in the dryer. I'm not against putting clothes on the line this time of year but not on days like today.

Iluvperegrines · 03/10/2022 11:22

I go by the motto ‘if the ground is dry, the washing will dry’, and we don’t have a tumble dryer so the washing goes out all year round as long as it isn’t raining.

tiger2691 · 03/10/2022 11:22

Yes, all the year round, I hate hanging out washing, sock airers drive me mad.

Shiboleth1 · 03/10/2022 11:23

I don't have a tumble drier so my washing goes out all year round.

randomsabreuse · 03/10/2022 11:24

If it's dry and windy and I'm around to rescue it, yes. I don't stop based on calendar, just on the day's weather

RippleQueen · 03/10/2022 11:24

I hang out washing all year round as long as it's dry. I might not bother if the weather is very cold and there's no wind as it might be almost wetter than when I first put it out. Also I'm going to try dryer indoor on an airier with a dehumidifier on.

Shiboleth1 · 03/10/2022 11:26

@Catonthedesk speak for yourself. I've never had a drier because they are shit for the environment.

Tralalalalalalalalalala · 03/10/2022 11:26

Yes, I always have. I only used to use the tumble dryer for towels and sheets but I'm putting them outside too now.

It's' not just a cost issue. We all need to cut our usage or there will be blackouts this winter IMO.

fnfnf · 03/10/2022 11:27

I live in a flat, so mine never goes outside. I've switched from leaving the airer next to the open French doors to using the dehumidifier instead, though. I very rarely use the dryer.

HauntersGonnaHaunt · 03/10/2022 11:28

It's not dull and cold everywhere. I had 2 loads of laundry out on the line yesterday.

BamBamBilla · 03/10/2022 11:29

If the ground is dry then it goes outside.

The past couple of days we've been on the edge of a storm system so the winds are strong which is a perfect time to dry clothes.

HashtagShitShop · 03/10/2022 11:30

Yes, I've some out right now. We don't have a tumble dryer anymore. Even though plenty of times now it doesn't dry fully it still dries enough to be a quicker dry inside than it would be straight out of the washer

Decafflatteplease · 03/10/2022 11:36

Yes we put ours on maidens outside then finish off either in utility room with dehumidifier or in tumble dryer depending if I need the airers for something else.

TheFormidableMrsC · 03/10/2022 11:38

I dried two loads yesterday. In a previous life where I could afford to use the tumble dryer I wouldn't be hanging washing out now but will continue to do so when it's dry. Even if it whips some moisture out then it can be finished off in the airing cupboard.

Juniperwren11 · 03/10/2022 11:38

Yes. I've got two loads of washing on the lines right now (made myself a double washing line so I can fit more on).
I don't own a tumble drier.

I was reading my Gran's old diary from 1984. It seemed she used to hang hers out all year round.
In a January entry she'd written "Did a line full of washing this morning. Froze it first then dried it!".

As in it was frozen by the frost outside.

Boxofsockss · 03/10/2022 11:39

Mine always goes on an airer and providing it’s not too windy, outside. Have had to replace it a few times when it’s fell over but other than that it’s easy enough to get everything in if it starts raining. And dries much quicker outside with a breeze

onemouseplace · 03/10/2022 11:40

Yes - all year round here unless it’s actually raining or one of those dank days where nothing dries.

Even if it doesn’t dry completely, it will be better than nothing. We don’t have a dryer though and our house gets awful condensation so I dry outside whenever I can.

Whitewolf2 · 03/10/2022 11:45

Yes it’s out now, it’s going to be 17 degrees here by afternoon, with a bit of sun hopefully at some point!

Roselilly36 · 03/10/2022 11:47

If it’s dry, my washing goes out, always. I don’t like washing that is dried indoors, never seems as clean to me.

MadisonAvenue · 03/10/2022 11:48

Yes, I hang it out to dry all year round because I don’t have a tumble dryer anymore. Otherwise (or if it’s not dried fully outside) it’s on clothes airers which tend to be in the way and on radiators and I dislike seeing washing drying around the house.

AdoraBell · 03/10/2022 11:48

Today yes. It should stay dry here SW and it’s mild. We can’t afford to use the tumble dryer frequently so I only it for towels if they don’t dry outdoors.

Nicpem1982 · 03/10/2022 11:49

Yes i too am making more of an effort to hang things out

TenoringBehind · 03/10/2022 11:53

Yes because then it doesn’t need so long in the tumble drier.
