Are you still hanging your washing outside?

Even in the dull cold weather? I am...even though it's a bit of a bother...I do find it makes a difference...this time last year I would have shoved it in the dryer...

Yep, always get it out when we can, even when its raining i bung racks out under our covered over seating area. Then in the evening bring racks in or use dryer to finish off if we absolutely have to.

I need to do some really dull research with the smart meter (which DH will utterly rip the piss out of me for) to figure out if it is better to do a small wash more often and have room to finish it off indoors, or a big wash and risk having to use the the dryer for a bit.

Tilda77 · 03/10/2022 10:00

Yes. Got 2 loads dry Saturday and 2 Sunday. Even pegged the towels out and just finished them off for 20 minutes in the dryer. Last year they probably would have gone in the dryer straight from the washing machine.

SirChenjins · 03/10/2022 10:00

Yes, if it's dry and not massively damp I'll stick it out - even if it's a bit dryer when I bring it in then I can put it over the airer or finish it in the tumble dryer and it will dry quicker. Hate this time of year for drying clothes though.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/10/2022 10:01

Yep. It's 18 degrees and sunny here today!

Curledupnow · 03/10/2022 10:01

Mine has been undercover for a couple of years - time it got dragged out!

Vinorosso74 · 03/10/2022 10:01

Yes, we don't have a dryer. It takes longer but it's still dries.

StillNotWarm · 03/10/2022 10:02

If it's dry, yes. Even an hour outside in the dark can make a massive difference to how long it takes to finish drying inside.
We dont have a tumble drier tho.
Got all sheets and towels washed and dried on Saturday - it was breezy and sunny, so we made the most of it.

Breathmiller · 03/10/2022 10:02

I will be hanging out my towels when they are done today. It's a bit damp but my Gran used to always say if they can even get an hour or two outside then they take much less time to dry inside. I don't have a tumble dryer but do have a pulley so they are out the way.

Bit more difficult to hang them outside when you're working out the house though as you need to be able to run out if it starts to rain.

RoseAndRose · 03/10/2022 10:03

Yes of course, year round on good drying days

FamilyTreeBuilder · 03/10/2022 10:04

Of course. Unless it's raining.

Goodiewhemper · 03/10/2022 10:04

I almost always do l, even if it is just for 10 minutes. I only use the dryer to finish and fold. They smell so much better when the air gets at them.

SuperCamp · 03/10/2022 10:06

On days when the weather is dry, yes.

I never use the dryer anyway.

slowquickstep · 03/10/2022 10:10

S.E Scotland and the washing is out most days

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 03/10/2022 10:15

Yep. I try to pick the days well though.

except yesterday I managed to flood the bathroom & used 5 big bath towels and a couple of small ones to mop it up.

forgot about them (I'd thrown them in the bath in the family bathroom) so I've now tut them on a wash (could have been in when I was up at 5🤦🏻‍♀️). But they'll get a hood blow around. I'm not expecting them to be dry, but they'll go in an airer & finish off overnight.

I don't have a dryer. I don't want a dryer.

Chicheguevara · 03/10/2022 10:18

If there is enough of a breeze, I peg out all year round. If it - degrees and a flat calm, I don’t.

womaninatightspot · 03/10/2022 10:18

I did loads yesterday, bright breezy day. This time last year I'd of used a dryer.

Redsquirrel5 · 03/10/2022 10:20

North of England

Outside then in kitchen to finish off. The 35 year old small drier packed in last year but we didn’t use it much, more to finish off or when raining. We bought a Lakeland airer and get that out occasionally and leave it over night. We haven’t had it on yet so will have to work out the cost. It used to be pence over night.

Catonthedesk · 03/10/2022 09:51

Yes outside , love how the only reason anyone cares now is because it costs them money not because they ever gave a hoot about the environment though

Agreed. Shame it's only now people have started acting a bit more responsibly!

Phos · 03/10/2022 10:25

If I can be sure it's not going to rain yes. Otherwise it's the clothes horse or, if in a rush, the heated airer.

Our tumble dryer broke ages ago and we never bothered replacing it.

dalisdrippingclock · 03/10/2022 10:29

Yes, I've got mine out but under a gazebo

ScottishLavender · 03/10/2022 10:31

We always do then if it's still not quite dry it goes on the airer

Catsforeverinlove · 03/10/2022 10:31

Yes always outside even in winter unless it’s raining..

user16480478 · 03/10/2022 10:32

Yes, weather is fine though, Northants

Snugglemonkey · 03/10/2022 10:34

I always have used the line where possible and will this year. It does rain a lot here though!

RomeoOscarXrayIndigoEcho · 03/10/2022 10:35

Yes. I've a load of washing out right now. Rain expected at 14:00.

I'll bring it in before then.

No tumble dryer. I use the line as often as I can all year round.

If the ground is dry I'll give it a shot. I even have a cover (which is often more hassle than it's worth) that I'll use on a drizzly day if there's a bit of breeze.

If there's too much breeze the cover looks like a hot air balloon though so no point then.
