Cheap meal ideas in hotel for 1 week for work

I'm staying in a hotel for work in a weeks time. I need some meal/food ideas. It's room only and I don't have the money to eat out every night and don't really want to eat sandwiches every night. ill have a kettle. Anyone got any ideas?

Do you have a credit card you could put a few meals on and then clear it when you get the expenses back?

If you like tuna, you could try John West ready made tubs of tuna salad with beans or pasta, and various dressings. They don't need to be kept in the fridge, you will just need some cutlery.

Trip to chip shop one night ( fish cake and chips and peas type of meal), a Chinese type takeaway another, with 2 dishes, should be under £20.
A coop style meal deal can be good, with a pasta dish for main.

Have they not even booked your hotels? They could at least pay for those on the company credit card rather than you paying and reclaiming.

Why haven't you said something? Even if you can 'just manage', not everyone else can, so you'll be doing everyone a favour by taking a stand against your employer's piss taking.

But if it's a conference, you should get all your meals included, so that will be a help.

If you buy the fresh pasta tortellini it cooks if soaked in boiled water so you could buy a pack of that and some (I like it with pesto) and have that one day? It wouldn't be hot hot but warm enough?

• Oats So simple - just add hot water
• Ryvita and cup o soup
• Itsu pot noodles plus add a packet of chicken from supermarket
• Butterbeans and jalopeno tuna salad - you can eat the whole ton of this
• Rice cakes, crisps, chocolate bars as snacks
• Ready made rice pudding

You would be amazed how many company's these days presume people have cards with hundreds if not thousands spare on it at any point and will only pay it back one or two months behind on production of receipts.

No spare credit card but will look into one for next time- though my credit rating isn't great. I'm not senior enough for company card. Work would book a hotel for me but expect me to pay. I learnt that the hard way when I stayed where they booked before and the room was £300 a night and I had to pay for 2 nights. I did get it back.

There's a useful thread from last year here about cooking with just a kettle. I always find the hardest thing in hotels is not having a fridge - means that for anything perishable, I can only buy roughly the amount I'll eat.

Either ask for an advance, or take out a credit card that has an interest free period. Lots of corporates do have this advance option- just explain the situation to your manager.

Look at Too Good to Go if you’re in a town or city. You can often pick up a takeaway for £3 or £4. Lots are available in the evenings

Do you know if you get lunch included during the conference?

They do take a little while to heat food up, but work really well for things like curry and rice, pasta etc. It opens up your options when you're staying in a hotel in for work. I think even if it you use £20 of your budget it will mean you can eat pretty well for the week.

appreciate not everyone wil want to do this, but I travel for work a lot and put all expenses on a credit card. Then I get reimbursed and pay the card off. I have one that is fee-free to use abroad

Bring a bowl or borrow one at breakfast flavoured cous cous and a little tin of sweetcorn or pot of olives.

Porridge pots for breakfast.
Canteen/conference lunch should be fine
Bowl and cutlery- will pack

Mug Shots pasta are my CBA meal for one. Add corned beef or frankfurters followed by a Cadbury’s mousse pot and I’d be well happy.
Balance out the bad stuff with a salad and an apple.

If it's a chain hotel: Holiday Inn, Premier Inn, etc, they will have a microwave for guest to warm babyfood/milk. You could buy ready meals and use that.

100 would cover a Wetherspoons meal and drink deap every night and change to spare.

Meal Deals, Pizza Hut buffet? I hate Pizza Hut but they seem to be really popular all over Europe (apart from Italy, obviously).

Since you are in the north of England, find a cooplands, they have a really good sandwich or salad meal deal, like £3.75 for a huge sandwich, drink and either crisps or sausage roll. They have good breakfast deals too.

They also do deals on pies, two for £2.70, quiches, good bread etc. take a little cooler bag for milk, butter cheese, salad bits, cured meats etc and leave it near the window or in the bath full of cold water
