Talented Mr Ripley and the shape of water are two of my fave films ever!

How dare thee!

Frith2013 · 01/10/2022 22:37

Lala Land. What drivel.

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 01/10/2022 22:47

Why on earth is La Cabina on this thread? It's an awesome nightmare horror, without schlock, gore or latex monsters. I've not forgotten it since I saw it 40+ years ago!

Whattodo6 · 01/10/2022 22:51

Honest, 90s film with some of All Saints in it. Absolutely dire.

Oh sorry, you are right. It wasn't a bad film. I just saw it too young, thinking it was a comedy, and ended up with a phone box phobia. Never forgot it either. Check it out if you like unusual films.

Meet Joe Black. The only time I have ever walked out of the cinema.

Watched one recently about a plane that had been hijacked.

But turns out that one of the passengers was a vampire. And she got shot but that doesn't bother vampires. Rather handy to have a vampire on your side in a hijack ,

She just wants to protect her son. And stay out of the sun.

Blood Red Sky. On Netflix

I quite enjoyed that one

FrancescaContini · 02/10/2022 03:06

Completely agree with the comments upthread about The Hobbit etc: totally tedious.

Everyone raved about the Life of Pi but it bored me to tears. Plodding and overly didactic.

Another one I hated: Amelie. Unwatchable, with all the rapid scene changes. Self consciously “quirky” (boak).

mjf981 · 02/10/2022 04:57

Downsizing.

Absolutely terrible and never ending. I'm usually a Matt Damon fan, but this was movie was completely crap.

mjf981 · 02/10/2022 05:03

Castaway.

Basically only 1 character in the whole movie and dull as dishwater. I wish Tom Hanks had just died in the initial plane crash, would've saved me 2 hours I'll never get back 😂

moleeye · 02/10/2022 05:24

@StrawberryPot same. No flipping idea what it was about!

I have a relative who’s an actor, he was in a terrible film. A load of the family went to see it at a special screening and we all had to be polite about it. As soon as we were round the corner, we were all, ‘what the fuck did we just watch?’
I was chatting to a friends partner at a party a few weeks later who works in post production, and he was telling me about an awful film he’d worked on recently. I mentioned the name of the film, and he was like, yep that’s the one. I can’t mention the name as would be both cruel to the relative and outing for me. But if you ever watch a film which makes you question what you just watched a how it was ever made, it could be the one.

PennyPinkleton · 02/10/2022 07:56

@cakeorwine I came on here to say “Left Behind” SO bad!

@Turtles4543 I watch “The Family Stone” every Christmas! It’s one of my favourite films 😂

Don’t get the love everyone seems to have for “Arrival”

To be fair I have worked on a LOT of bad films... thousands are made every single year, most never have any kid of success.

Festivals like sundance get around 15,000 submissions annually and less than 1% are good enough to be shown.

Clifford the big red dog.

Jack Whitehalls attempt at an American accent was painful.

Hellboy (2019) was so incredibly awful.

Was just about to type this 😆

Mittens1717 · 02/10/2022 10:13

Sunshine with Cillian Murphy, Hellboy, American Beauty, all utter drivel

Jack Whitehall was in another film with a terrible American accent I can't even remember the name of it bloody awful though

Chikapu · 02/10/2022 11:13

Lesbian Vampire Killers - just awful.

the80sweregreat · 02/10/2022 11:31

Lots of actors make awful films though
Robert De Niro springs to mind.
His fall from Grace is spectacular from the deer Hunter to Dirty Grandpa.
I even hated him in the Focker films and they were not that terrible.

You can watch a truly terrible US film on channel 5, any afternoon of the week. They are even worse than the random ‘free to you’ films that you can watch on Amazon Prime. Terrible acting, terrible stories. I am strangely fond of them. I wonder whether they are what B movies used to be, in cinemas of yore.

They'll be starting the Christmas ones soon. They all seem to be Mills & Boonesque romances, called things like 'A Christmas Love' and 'A Heart For Christmas'.

They have the same plot every time about a city 'girl' going to visit her aunt in Vermont and she meets the local widowered vet/lawyer/doctor with the cute kid but what's this?! There's been a misunderstanding about the town's Christmas pageant! Oooh, handbags. But then, in the final 8.5 minutes, career girl and the vet/lawyer/doctor manage to conquer the misunderstanding and snog at the end. And it snows. Fin.

There were so many people saying how great American Beauty was at the time. I watched it recently and it was just so wrong. Felt quite sick really. I actually quite liked Triangle, mentioned upthread, it was interesting in that it made you wonder if the film was about hell and guilt rather than what was actually happening. Blonde on Netflix was really dire, couldn't even finish it.

Oh god yes..@Gemzee 🤣 Open Water!! The most boring film in the world 🥱

Whoever thought that 2 hours of two people floating around doing not much else, was entertaining (much less 'horror') was bonkers!

It just seems a odd thing to make a film about because other then the bits that known in terms of what happened to them..rest just made up.

Happening..I mean its good for comedy and the oddness of it. And Mark Wahlberg performance is something else

madnessitellyou · 02/10/2022 12:45

Two spring to mind.

One is Frozen. Not the Disney Frozen, a different film of the same name that climaxes in people being eaten by wolves on a mountain having been stuck on a ski lift. My colleague thought that the Frozen all the pre schoolers went mad for was that Frozen and thought there were some very sick and twisted parents out there Grin.

The other is Wolf Creek. It's horrendous.

Actually, there's another I cannot stand: Pirates of the Caribbean.
